Frank,do you use Nubiotic for your race team? daily? Every other day? Weekly ?

Before the race season I use four or five days a week for a month. During Racing I used on day of return and on Tuesdays. Race season, Sunday and Monday they get Apple Cider Vinegar, Wednesday's they get Red Cell and Thursday and Friday fresh plain water so the birds do not dehydrate.

I think it would need helpful to weigh the pigeons to give us a better idea of whata corky, buoyant youngster weighs and what a heavy one of "lead" weighs. Otherwise, it's vague and subjective.

I buy from Global Pigeon Supply. You must call and ask and tell them you learned this from me. Most of the supply houses do not advertise the Vaccines but carry them if you call and ask. Global delivers every month or so to me so I get what I need from them.

I would wait until they are at least a couple months old before worming them. For some reason and maybe because of the immune systems babies at this age are not showing or carrying worms.

Frank, How do you deal with Coccidiosis?

Coccidiosis is a non issue for me. I have not treated for coccidiosis for over 20 years. When stress goes up coccidia goes up and when the stress goes down the numbers drop. Same with Tricho (Canker). Maybe the oregano product Nubiotic has a positive effect but I stopped treating for cocci long before I found oregano.

That was a great win. Two birds eight minutes ahead and my bird went in first. I also won 1st in 2018 which made winning the Hoosier Million Dollar Race two years in a row. There was no race in 2019.

You may be talking about my celibate hens. Only the race team celibate hens are locked out each morning during the race season. This helps prevent them from mating to each other. All the others do as they want.

I vaccinate for PMV, but I would like to know where to get the rota vaccine, I have never found it for sale in the US. I have show homers and the last couple of years I have picked up ybs. From different shows. I agree from my own research, that a rota virus vaccine could help alleviate this problem. Please help me find the vaccine, thank you so much, Ron.

Hello Ron, The supply houses do not advertise because many vaccines are not approved in the USA. You must call them and see if they have it. I buy from Global Pigeon Supplies because they deliver what I need every month or so but all the sellers are great.

My youngsters are with me for a few weeks before going to the One Loft Races so they receive Nubiotic every day. I also keep my own young on Nubiotic daily for the first couple months of their lives. After that a few days per week.

Frank, at what age do you wean? I see these babies are at least 25-30 days old if not older. What is your thought on weaning at 18 days old and is it beneficial for the parents so they conserve more energy. Thanks.

Hi Marcin, I like to wean young, but 18 days is too young. I do not like to leave too long to stress the parents by the parents feeding an extra week or two. I can only wean when I have time, so I wean about once a week. Some are older and some are younger. Usually when the feathers open up under the wing, they are old enough wean. I vaccinate and spray all at weaning, so it takes a little bit of time.

Any tips for getting them off floor without totally spooking them?? got great recall at moment with youngbirds but few younger floor peckers seem to be keeping some of older ones down on floor. thanks

They will do to the perches after a few days. Do not worry because they feel more secure on the floor right after weaning. Just wait them out. No need to spook them. They will hate you forever if you spook them.

What you do if your youngsters get e-coli adeno?do you give them antibiotics or what do you do in this situation.

No flock treatment here with antibiotics. The vaccines help because it strengthens the immune system them and I also will use the Nubiotic which really helps. The last thing I do is use Virkon S 1/2 teaspoon to the gallon for five days if the young birds look off.

30 days is fine. I wean a bit earlier but I also can only wean when I have the time to do all the vaccines and spray. So at my lofts some are a bit young and some might be a bit older. I usually wean on the weekend when I have more time.
