They wont ever change her name. It will be cortana. She will be the better cortana. See, she now knows the future of herself if unchecked. When you know something about your future you actively work to redirect course. If they change it, the true fanbase, the ones that were there in the beginning and followed the journey, grew together, read the literature...will riot.

I love how Chief changes throughout this game, like he starts off denying the Weapon everything he gave Cortana so fiercely like he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to delete her when the time came and then he says “You’re her- if we’d never met” and it seems to click into place, like he’s realized that she is his second chance.

I mean its a little obvious, but my GOD does the acting just completely carry this scene! From Atriox's barely contained rage, to the Weapon's absolute horror, to Chief's voice nearly cracking while talking about his guilt, to that chill inducing delivery of "I don't... but I want to." This is art right here!

I mean this was less about intimidation of him and more about simply about giving him a choice and sending a message to every other race in the galaxy what happens if you choose to oppose her. If he decided to obey then fine and if not she gets to send her message. At no point does she view him as a threat and despite the context of this level she is completely right that Atriox is no threat to her. Her capture had nothing to do with him and basically only was due to Weapon. If not for her, then Cortana's Guardians simply swat aside Atriox's fleet like they are nothing. He just happened to take down the UNSC on the way to capturing her (though how they planned to deal with the aforementioned Guardian's after is still something I am curious about).

Yup,. the story recently is how the people around John have been questioning if hes just a machine or is his humanity second to his mission. His mission, and he knows, is a never ending one. Hence "the missions changed, they always do." He fully knows that his life will never not be the mission, his programming. The only emotion he always held was the love he felt for cortana. He let himself down by choosing love over the mission by not destroying her. Thats what made him come back to humanity. Not having cortana around to do most of his thinking and drive, gave him a lot of time to think on what and who he is as a human and not a weapon. Most emotional Halo ive played. He finally got real closure with Cortana 1. Their relationship was truly a human one. Lovers for years, married for few more, then it all fell apart. He was fighting for someone choosing another path, once he realized she was never coming back, not the same at least, all he really needed to move on was closure. I wish more franchises were story driven and not cash grabs and loot boxes. Thanks 343 for giving fans what we needed.

Nah, I think Cortana showed Earth and humanity as a whole some favoritism as she was a human-built AI. The most she'd do is bomb cities and destroy our military to force us to submit. Also, she knows if she blew up Earth, she'd immediately make humans an endangered species since our population in Halo was around 39 billion at the start of the Human-Covenant war and it was 16 billion towards the end. By the time we get to present events, Earth has 7.9 billion humans. Saying that our population went up a couple billion at the end of the war (unlikely due to few year difference between Halo 3 and Halo Infinite), we're still dealing with about almost half of the human population being on Earth. If Cortana blew up Earth, humanity would be inches closer to extinction as about half of our remaining population would be dead. Cortana, as batshit insane she became, would never allow herself to continue where the Covenant left off with humanity.

And the presence of the weapon on the ring at the right moment in time, helped her make up her mind on what needed to be done. Like she said in the ending of the game, she only really had a few milliseconds to plan the whole thing out.

@@cripticgamer2063 Yeah, cured "seemingly". It was just dropped. People speculate that it's because they believe rampancy is caused by a lack of space to store data (which isn't what the wiki describes it as, but whatever). And the Domain is infinite, therefore giving Cortana space. But once she leaves, she wouldn't have infinite space anymore. Also, there's the fact that Cortana was split and scattered all over. Who knows which piece is which. So, you're saying that a somehow cured Cortana decided not to go back to Chief, and continued on acting rampant even though she was cured, and destroyed a planet? And she's had way more than a few milliseconds to plan things out.

@@BigFry9591 Cortana didn't leave the domain though until she was deleted. Even on Zeta Halo she was still using the domain hence her lack of rampancy. @@BigFry9591 because you have your interpretation of the story a bit wrong. The actual full cortana died at the end of halo 4. I haven't played Infinite yet. But based on Wars 2, Atriox is by far my favorite Halo antagonists. He's not a complicated character, but he is forthright and practical in a way that is at odds with the zealotry of the Covenant, the scheming and backstabbing of the Prophets, the monomania of the Didact, and the Rampancy of Spark and Cortana. In a lot of ways, he's the closest thing the Brutes have . . . to a Spartan.

Hes always been just a weaponized machine since he was 14, hes now recognizing that he is more than that. Hes finding his humanity. He lost the one thing he loved and in that moment hes feeling true human guilt. He didnt stop cortana because he was trying to reason with a psychopath simply because he loved her and she was the only thing he ever loved. Shit is poetic. 343 knocked this game out of the park when it comes to a culmination of the last 2 decades of a franchise. Something not many franchises could or have ever achieved.

His average relationship with any of his Spartans is barely 20 times the amount of time he knew Cortana. You're right, before knowing her he obviously couldn't conduct special operations at the age of twelve like recovering nuclear weapons or infiltrate heavily guarded asteroid bases, neither could he kill highly trained ODST specops with his bare hands at that age, he obviously couldn't manage himself in combat let alone be the leader of the whole Spartan program in the field ; he also couldn't wrestle an armored exoskeleton as simple training. He could never destroy a Covenant ship by himself nor could he single handedly turn the tide of entire battles against the covenant. It all happened because Cortana was there. He actually needs her a lot otherwise he would never have been selected into a program based on genetic selection to identify individuals with superior intellect, reflexes, strength and determination as well as mental stamina. He didn't even finish the fight in Halo 3 without Cortana for 2/3 of the game. He never fought without her in Halo 5 either. Cortana is a companion. He has and had many others. Even if the weapon was a copy of Cortana, I think it would be impossible for her to become the same as the original. The rampancy was not the only thing that made Cortana go crazy. The time she spent with the Gravemind, which were 28 days, and when she accessed the Dominion altered her thought matrices and led her to the conclusion to impose her will on all organic beings. Remember rampancy is a natural part if the AI life cycle. And we know it has to do with the way the AI are constantly learning by accessing and analyzing their available data. That has a predictable timeline for a Nirmal AI but for a Cortana model, out on the Frontline and frequently interacting with forerunner AIs, flood graveminds and Covenant systems, they are storing much more complex data than nor al and that's might have an unknown affect on how the Weapon may develop.

@@jonofpdx I always thought that, the rampancy time couldn't be set in stone due to how each AIs experiences differ. I mean, she had, at one point or another, fully integrated with covenant ships, UNSC ships, UNSC bases, Flood controlled UNSC bases, and quite a lot of Forerunner tech too... She had probably stored so much data that she didnt have the time to convey to Chief, or Halsey. Well, Halo is set 500 years in the future. A lot has probably changed on Earth in that time. As unlikely as it might seem from our point of view Australia might have become a larger geopolitical force on Earth. It's either that or Australia was chosen because it was seen as more of a neutral ground among the politics of the UNSC's very early years.

Remember, Chief and Cortana had years of bond and experience to justify the suspicion and assumption of romantic tensions between the two, whereas Chief only discovered and bonded with the Weapon here by the span of this game’s events while struggling with his secret mission and the fact that she’s Cortana’s copy at the same time. She’s so far a friend that’s to be trusted to help him and needs to be protected alongside the Pilot, so let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.

This part reminds me of someone who got a 2nd chance to relive a life of a bad break up that took 10 years of their life. More stand off-ish, lack of trust, always playing on the defensive and not afraid to cut tail and run. The beginning scenes to this scene right here make it feel like you're in a relationship all again but you want to "change" or "make it right" back when you didn't or could've. Quite powerful to think if you went through something that significant, would you do it all again or would you change things? I feel like Chief fought himself back and forth up until this point in the scene. Very powerful message overall and great story writing.

I haven't seen it referred to often - but there is some lore about what happened. Cortana was infected by an AI-version of the Flood - that's what she did in Halo 5. It's a digital flood, and it first affected Mendicant Bias, the war-AI of the Forerunners and was the reason why the rings were fired in the first place. The Forerunners lost almost every advantage they had for the same reason Cortana did - in Halo 3, when the Gravemind was interrogating Cortana, that's what he was doing - infecting her with the Logic Plague.

For anyone who was confused by this; the Weapon was created with very limited knowledge. Basically, she was just a child. Young, naive, new. She didn't know anything about other AI's, much less, what Cortana did (as she said herself). For all she knew, all AI's looked the same. That's why it was a surprise to her that she's Cortana's clone. Hell, she was supposed to be deleted after Cortana died. She was never meant to learn these things, as it would compromise her. Knowing the truth about her creation was too dangerous Also, kinda annoying that the uploader removed the music from the cutscene just so he can monetize. The musoc is what made it 10x more powerful

I think I get how this was accomplished too: in Halo: Shadows of Reach, Blue Team visits the ruins of CASTLE Base for some cryobins and a lockbox that Halsey claims will possibly hold the key to defeating Cortana. We never find out what those are. I bet that they're supposed to be the remaining cloned brains of Halsey like the one that Cortana was created from. It's how she created the Weapon. THAT'S what she was after the whole time!!!

"She that to me once. About being a machine." And that was the line that I believe he chose as his new start. In Guardians and Infinite, John seems as less of a warmachine and more like a human with emotions. By that I mean he lets the show more often. He allows himself to make a more conceited effort to connect with his fellow man. He is nearing his 50s after all.

The Cortana story arc, and the Weapon story arc, in the Halo: Infinite campaign, were done brilliantly. I loved how they brought some dignity back for Cortana, not that it was really her fault she went strange. I never played Halo 5: Guardians, but I watched vids about its story. It was a bad place the Halo 5 story went to, however Infinite did Cortana justice. Funny that after my first play of Inifinite, I thought I might never play it again. I wondered if Halo was finally over and dead. The story arc registered to me, but it did not strike me deeply. I replayed Infinite maybe a year later, and for some reason I loved it. Added to that the story arcs were quite brilliantly emotional. They were the icing on the cake as the game came to its close. Another thing that Infinite did was make me feel OK about Cortana being gone, and alright about with the Weapon. ... Took two plays to get there though. No idea why. Maybe first play of Infinite was tainted by all the backlash against Halo 4 and 5. Maybe I played Infinite first time to see what it was like. Whereas second time I played, because I thought I wanted to play it. I had to go back to Infinite to see the Warthog. Plus I figured the combat was fine, so I went in second time with some optimism. Whatever it was, Infinite left its mark on me second time, and I'll never forget it now. Added to the gameplay and story, the Infinite campaign also had sutunning graphics. (EDIT: It's worth adding that the stories in Halo 1 to 3, were better understood with more plays too.)
