Lyocell, rayon, viscose, etc. aren’t synthetics, they’re “manmade” from plant fibers, which is why they’re highly breathable. Synthetics are the plastics made from petrochemicals - polyester, polyamide (nylon), acrylic, etc. They are completely non-breathable like all plastics, one might as well wear a garbage bag for all the comfort they provide. Synthetics and manmade fabrics are very different, it’s just that the nomenclature is confusing, after all, synthetics are manmade, too. It’s easy to find a list of synthetics online, then put it on your phone and don’t buy them. They’re non-biodegradable, non-recyclable and highly polluting, in addition to being miserably uncomfortable. Hot in summer, cold in winter, and sticky and damp year-round, ugh.

Yes! I buy all the fabrics that are made from bamboo or wood pulp! Rayon, viscose, bamboo, tencel and modal, for example, will all be soft, breathable and biodegradable. One thing to be aware of: these fabrics tend to be very stretchy and weakened when wet so can more easily be stretched out of shape during washing. It’s worth treating them as semi-delicates, to help preserve their shape. So, wash on 30 degrees or lower, put in a net bag if made of thinner fabric, and hang to dry in a way that distributes the weight of the garment more broadly.

As someone decluttering the wardrobes of 2 clotheshorses, focusing on natural fabrics helps to figure out which items to keep. I have been dying the clothes I like on colors that don’t suit me. It’s so much work, but it nice to donate to people who need interview clothes or working with a tailor to make something work.

Since I am now over 40, I've really been focusing more on buying quality pieces instead of cheap "disposable" clothing. Your suggestions were very helpful. And I wish the cold shoulder pieces would go away! I hated that trend when it started and still hate it now. So many of those tops would look great as just a sleeveless top instead of with the added "sleeve" part.

I agree with basically all your points…I am especially focused on the fabric when purchasing new clothing items…I have always been an impulse shopper, but I am trying to only make quality/useful purchases now (its a full mindset change!!). Regarding sunglasses I always go for the ones that suit my face shape rather than whatever is in trend. Also I would splurge a bit more on sunglasses like get them from a proper shop so that they have a glare reduction/polarized well centered UV filtering optical portion. Cause a lot of times a cheap decentered easily scratched ones can give u a headache or deter ur driving.

I definitely think the tip about not wearing cutouts in a cheap fabric is great and can even be applied to more trends. If you buy a moderately trendy piece that looks really great on you and is great quality, I think the dated aspects of it fade in the background because of how good you look in it. I also will not be getting rid of my chunky filas anytime soon- they make a great pairing with little athletic skirts for a cute, cheerleader-inspired kind of look.

I always look forward to your videos on Sundays. Good tip on getting a linen blend. That plant class sounds interesting! I’ve been debating about the rectangle sunglasses but I don’t know if it warps your line of vision? And if it goes with my face shape. The white monochromatic outfit you’re wearing today looks so elevated! I might switch to a padded bra for more coverage.

Cold shoulder I am completely over. And fabric and how it hangs definitely a big difference. I’ve also pulled out all my old work clothes ( button up blouses etc) and wearing them with my denim shorts. Love the feel of comfort and classy mix.

Some time it just can change any day what you feel good. The large tropical prints will always be a favorite of mine. I like the chunky shoes better for the walking and foot protection but the thin strappy sandals are a just get out of the car and standing about shoe but I need more cushion under my feet. Great thoughts! Love your channel ❤️ I totally get what you’re saying about the big florals. Hated them until I hit mid 20s and they started appearing more and more in trends. Now I’m 36 and I think I’ve started noticing that the smaller floral prints and polka dots look so much better on short gals. Though, I have a few great skirts and jumpsuits that have big florals and probably make this tiny girl look even smaller. But golly I love those pieces and I don’t care if I look like a fairy (as my Middle and high school students lovingly point out) 😜

Anna, you make some really good points. I personally don't wear polyester in the summer, shirts with cutouts any time, and chunky tennis shoes, they look like I could hurt an ankle in them. I totally agree about all the fads! I have so many polyester dresses that I can't bring myself to wear anymore! I loooove tencel, lyocell, and rayon. Just feels so soft silky, breathable, and good quality. Also doesn't get stinky like old polyester. The smell of some certain polyesters when they age is unbearable to me! 😖

Yep. Got rid of all my polyesters last summer when I got eczema from wearing them in the heat. Since I could tolerate cotton, linen or silk next to my skin, this proved to be a quick way to declutter.

The square sunglasses: Back in around 2004/2005 or so, I made my very first designer splurge. It was a pair of white, squarish Versace sunglasses, exactly the shape shown. The sides are metal with the Versace Medusa logo. I almost sold them somewhere down the line, as that style fell out of vogue, but the glasses are so heavy and high-quality compared to everything else. They’re also sentimental because, again, it was my very first high-end purchase as a young college student. (At the time I worked full-time at a grocery store and saved up for these.) I’m so glad I kept them now. I plan on pulling them out today and rocking them!

I am one of those who prefer a linen mix and although linen is lovely, I dislike the `just gotten out of bed look`. I am in the process of de-cluttering my wardrobes and donate to charity shops which we have a lot of at the moment.

I agree with everything you said. Designers have to conscientiously come up with something different to stay relevant and don't care how ridiculous it looks on real people so wearing something because it's trendy isn't always flattering. Great insight in this video. XXOO ❤️

Oh I love chunky sandals😄 But I stick to Birkies. They’re a classic, last for years and are sooo comfortable. The big buckle Arizona look so nice and stylish. They go with everything Sunglasses I prefer good quality and a shape that fits my face. If they’re not in style to begin with, they can’t go out of style either 🙃

The floral shirt is ok until you see that white lace/crochet trimming, that makes it old fashioned. I still love my big classed sunglasses, because the big ones fits over my normal glasses. Do not like the strong contrast in the trimming of the sunglasses, I personally keep them black or maybe a small red/purple/pink glow in the trimming. But hey as a Gothic black is always good :) I do not wear sneakers, of any kind. Have one pair of flat (slim) sandals but only if it is very very hot outside, otherwise always heels/ankle-boots. I do love cut outs in shirts but always just one thing, not both the shoulders and neckline, one or the other. And the fabric must be nice, smooth and not cheap/thin (if you know what I mean). The pink top is slightly outdated, but with a black vest on a black pants could be nice.

FYI....Walmart, of all places, has really nice 100% Pima Cotton T-shirts that fit well and are super nice...for under $5!

I agree with everything you said. But, Anna, you really need to size up in that tank top. It has both horizontal strain lines across the chest and underarm puckers, two signs of a size too small. I can sympathize, as a fellow larger-busted woman, I get this problem a lot. I stopped putting my tops in the dryer for this reason, they can shrink a full size in a single tumble drying cycle. The perfect fit when new can end up two sizes too small after a few laundry cycles.

I've got some swimsuit cover-up brown Palazzo pants, but they are sheer polyester! They feel gross...so barely used for over 15 years...

I never buy acrylic sweaters. They do not keep you warm at all, and pill horribly and just look cheap. I do buy blouses made of rayon and viscose. I like cotton and linen, and purchase those as well , but they are high maintenance as far as needing to iron after every wear.

I’m a newer follower, about 6 weeks now, and I find your videos to be informative and funny! Natural fibres such as linen, cotton, etc will last many years if cared for and linen actually gets better with age ( needing less ironing!) whereas man made synthetics and those derived from plant fibres (ie. viscose) have poor structural integrity and longevity.

Higher quality fabric (it feels smoother and better stretch / comes back to shape after stretching it) and make sure that it doesn’t have hard elastic at the waist band! There shouldn’t be any hard elastic anywhere ❤️

Totally agree with your this not thats. LOVE the beach pant coverups- especially the wide leg ones !!! And those big florals should only be on a sarong if you’re on the beach in Hawaii, Otherwise you get the grandma affect. As always-love, love, love, your videos Anna! 🥰💕👍💕🥰💕

I think your advice here is quite sound! My feet are on the larger size and I could never wear those chunky dad sneakers, dad sandals or Birkenstocks. They would make my feet look like gunboats.
