Useless video. 1), a digger gadget to pull plugs of grass up. 2), a gadget to grab something you could just pick up by hand. 3) a sawdust making machine. I get plenty of that from my table saw while I make things that are actually USEFUL.

I bought #1 at Home Depot for $15.00. For number 2 all you need is welding equipment, about $80.00 worth of 5” blades and a desperate need for powdered sawdust. Hopefully the blades never come loose or need to be replaced. I’ll save this to “Useless and dangerous things to make because you can. “

So for project #1 you could've bought a weed puller for the price of the 4 drill bits used. Also you were welding galvanized steel. That's a good way to get zinc oxide poisoning. Project #2 that gripping device couldn't hold anything that you couldn't pick up with your hands and you were dangling an object being held by two flat and smooth plates over your exposed toes. Project #3 absolutely useless.
@Fireguy97
@Fireguy97 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! First project: A commercial weed puller that this is modeled on goes on sale for $9.99 in the spring. Second project: The piece being lifted has to have a lip on it. Third project: What is the fricken need to make sawdust?

Too many people want to judge a painter on how he paints rather than the finished work. People like to judge the people that make these videos by how they do something rather than what they produce. Take this video for instance. It clearly says "DIY Ideas", not a "Tutorial in Fabrication Methods". Everything I saw here made me think of several different ways to make the same items. Honestly I needed nothing made in this video, but it gave me ideas on how to better construct other things I do want. I watch hundreds of these videos just for inspiration. We need to make a bigger effort to appreciate what we get out of these videos and stop just criticizing the things we don't like.
@hamsolo474
@hamsolo474 2 жыл бұрын
If you get inspiration from this then that's good, but I think the fact he makes really odd choices in using expensive parts to remake cheap tools is still worthy of criticism. An angle grinder is about $80 and that looks like about $40 of blades, I got my bench grinder for $50, the post hole digger uses four expensive drill bits looking like about $12-15 cost right there instead of a small sharpened bit of scrap steel that it seems he would have in abundance. A similar post hole digger would be $20 and he chose to use $12-15 dollars of drills instead of $2 of scrap steel he already has? It's like making a garbage bin out of a jet engine, you could do it, it works, it's creative, but it's worthy of criticism for being expensive, unnecessary and inefficient.
@USXPatriate
@USXPatriate 2 жыл бұрын
@@hamsolo474 I have 4 angle grinders. They are all from thrift stores. Two look brand new. I didn't pay more than $5 for any of them. I don't recall seeing the receipts from his purchases shown anywhere on his video. I have 2 post hole diggers and one of them I got for nothing at the recycling center because the center fulcrum needed a new bolt. So, don't assume your experience is his experience. Just another uninformed criticism.
@hamsolo474
@hamsolo474 2 жыл бұрын
@USXPatriate if you admit you can get post hole diggers for less than the current market prices of his materials doesn't that prove my point? Did you by chance see a bench grinder for sale at a similar price to those angle grinders you bought? I wouldn't assume that my experience is his experience, I've never had to create interesting thumbnails or videos so I can't relate to those kinds creative pressures.
@USXPatriate
@USXPatriate 2 жыл бұрын
@@hamsolo474 I have three bench grinders, but I've yet to find one strong enough (second hand/thrifted) to make some of the things I want. But, I have to say I'm probably different than a lot of folks. Looking for second hand stuff to repurpose is a hobby of mine. I can see how a lot of people could see it from your point of view. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be overly critical towards you or your point of view. I just have noticed that there seems to be a disturbing rise in criticism for seemingly small things. That's the reason I've never done any vids. I don't have the temperament to ignore people that criticize for the sake of criticizing. I know that's not what you're doing. I get your angle. I really do. My angle is that I have gotten a lot of inspiration from the worst videos I've watched. Encouraging these folks instead of shading them for one reason or another keeps the videos coming. Just as the skills we have building, tinkering and constructing things increase with practice so do the quality of videos made by these folks as the continue to create more.
@ldrc85
@ldrc85 2 жыл бұрын
The things he made already exist and can be purchased cheaply. Also when it comes to fabricating things you have to look at "how the artist paints" especially when it's unsafe. Welding galvanized steel, not securing materials to the drill press, and dangling objects over exposed toes are not things you should be taking inspiration from
