Great video!!! Most sailing channels focus so much on the diving and the destination. It's so much more enjoyable to see what you're doing on a passage. Weather, sail handling, talking safe and common sense strategies .... etc, make me want to come back for more. I'm glad I ran into your channel this morning! I'd love to learn more about how each of your sails handle different conditions.

Love the weather routing content. Especially as informed from a professional standpoint. Something a lot of sailing vlogs give short shrift to which we value, is routing generally with actual chart track content showing what routes you end up choosing and exposition as to why. For example we're quite interested in routing up to and returning from New England (with all the factors described and explained, such as Gulf Stream, hurricane season, safe harbors in route, etc). With a Euro-tall rig and thus ICW not an option, it's the kind of thing we love to see. Great content. Thanks!

Another very informative vid guys - thank you! They are pretty impressive speeds. I read that the Smiths - 'Sailing Happy Together' - had their L48 doing 10 in 12 kts of wind and 15.5 in 20 - fully laden! A Leopard would definitely be our choice - and from what I have seen of your 46 the cockpit configuration appears better and bigger than that on the 48. And don't forget to put Shelburne on your NS itinerary - the beer's chilling! Be safe!

These videos are so awesome! You guys really found a great niche here. Combining the adventure aspect of sailing with the technical side is kind of rare. thanks for this video it is helpful to a person of your profession on weather to explain how to look at weather charts and get a meteorologist read . Oh I also have changed my plans to get to Japan from Bremerton so I'm going by way of Hawaii and on to the great beyond . but first I'm heading for Vancouver Island , go around it first . starting in mid to late May .

Nice casual discussion on weather, this was a rather easy passage but demonstrated the need to always consider the weather prior to leaving. Had this been a longer passage with some of the expected change to the east, I may have headed a bit east to allow for more sail with the weather if it ever arose and made for an uncomfortable ride.

Nice job guys!! We really enjoyed that. As an old airline guy I am interested in your weather analysis and how it applies to passage making. In my previous life we would receive and study printed versions of current wx and forecasts. But our concern was way more micro and compacted in terms of time and geographic location. So the expanded and longer term focus is very different. I am particularly interested in your use of the surface analysis charts, wave predictions, and the different technology platforms that you are using. Your vids are super helpful, and informative. Your previous seamanship and meteorological experience shines, Nick! Thanks for the detailed analysis...I could see the gears turning. Excellent! I'm jumping around, watching the videos and hope you see these three suggestions for future videos. 1. Know Cats are inherently more stable than mono hulls, but what about seasickness? How does it affect the you, Megan, and Sugar? I can 'paint' the hull of any vessel. ;-) 2. What first aid and meds would you suggest be stocked on board? Do you catch colds or flu when at sea? Peanut Butter won't cure everything! 3. As a generalization, most people are good, and friendly; but the reality is that SOME would do you harm. Without revealing your personal circumstances, do many live aboards plan for pirates, or do they just pray for the best? Sorry if you covered these topics previously. Thoroughly enjoy your spirit of adventure, and your honesty on the sailing life. Stay safe out there!

Thanks so much for this. Between this video and the earlier one on forecasting tools I have both learned a lot, and acquired a zillion questions I hope you answer. I think this video is a great model for how you can help people like me get a start on learning about forecasting. The subject is so big that it is very hard to figure out how to get started in self directed study mode. I don't mean to fault the authors of the popular books on the subject, but I just think it is too big a subject for some of us to get a handle on without some help Your earlier forecasting tools video talked about the different forecasting models and you make it clear that understanding what to take from each one depends on the situation. It seems to me that this idea of showing how you make those judgment calls during actual passage planning is a perfect way of helping me get a clue about how to make use of the other information that is available. For example, the discussion here about the behavior of the squalls in that line of clouds gave me a strong visual and conceptual model that I am now using to dive deeper on that subject and try to understand something about the relationship between horizontal and vertical flows on that kind of scale. I won't learn everything, of course, but I will be able to lock some of it in and then go on to some other element. Your guidance gave me a big picture context that I could use to help understand some details in a small area, without having to absorb a huge amount of other details to get the context for myself. Somewhere in a video comment you expressed surprise at the degree to which a commenter found this forecasting information to be a rare resource. I think that may be because it is hard for you to a beginner's point of view, deeply ignorant, on a subject in which you are so expert. Just trust us commenters that you are providing us with something uniquely valuable, and please keep it coming! If you decide to make this a regular feature, then I am sure the news will spread and I will be very surprised if you don't get a lot of new viewers because of it.
