In today’s vlog we hang out at home and prepare for Tropical Storm Elsa. We show you how we prepare at home, we show you what he weather was like during the height of the storm and then we show you what he day was like afterward. We walk you through some of things we do before the storm and some ways you can prepare for a bigger hurricane if you need to in the future. Although Elsa wasn’t much of a storm in our area we were grateful that we got things ready just in case and we’re also grateful that we didn’t have any damage. Thank you for joining along with us! Thank you for watching and we’ll see you tomorrow with a new vid!

We can get pretty bad tornadoes in Alabama, and our meteorologists tell us to have a bike helmet for everyone to wear when we are in our safe place. He said many people are injured or killed by flying debris. Also a whistle, to help rescuers find us, if we have a broken leg or something like that. Thought I’d pass that info along.😊 Jackson is a joy.

Severe weather hacks for the central states : for the flush "if its yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down" to conserve water, be sure whatever space you go to for safety has flashlights (with batteries) and water..you may be stuck for a little bit. Make sure all your daily meds are with you as well so you don't have to miss your meds if you have to evacuate or be stranded somewhere other than home. Have a general go bag.

Alabama here! For future reference: Get a bicycle helmet for Jackson and put it on him during a tornado warning. Also make sure everyone has shoes on in the event that a tornado hits where you are you can easily walk over debris. Oh, and grab Jackson’s baby crib mattress to put over you in your safe place. Glad it didn’t get bad in your area!

Here in Northern Indiana there was a tornado a few weeks ago that hit my parents property. A tree fell on my dad’s pole barn so with him in it! Thankfully he is ok, but the barn was completely destroyed unfortunately. The house was also thankfully ok. That was the first time in 20 years they have lived in the house that we have experienced a tornado and it is a scary situation I never want to live through again. I’m so glad that that didn’t happen for you guys, I wouldn’t want anyone to go though experiencing a tornado.

So glad to see you were all safe in the hurricane. Prayed for all alot this week! We got so pretty heavy rain up in Corning, NY Thursday, that caused flash flooding and power outages in the rural areas around us. My youngest son lives in Manhattan and they had subway lines shut down due to flooding, street flooding and the like. He had to weave his way through a couple of different subway lines to get to the Vet hospital he works at (until Broadway reopens and he can start auditioning). Not an Uber, Lyft or cab to be had anywhere there.

I grew up on coast of nc. Irene, we lost power for about a month. We had a well, so we lost water when we lost power. Another good reason to fill tubs, buckets, and have bottled drinks. A good way to see if your food in the freezer was okay, put a small container of water in the freezer, after frozen, put a quarter on top. If everything defrosted and refroze, the quarter would be further down or at the bottom rather than on top

Jacksonville, Duval County, Totally agree about this storm, we pulled everything in and I was working from home and was going "What a let down". But we did have the EF 1 tornado along I 95 / US 1, which is 6 miles west of me, but for my house, nothing, less that what we find for a thunderstorm.

Just moved to Jacksonville (Clay County/Duval County line) and honestly weve had rain storms (not hurricanes) on regular days worse that the storm that blew through all it was for us was mainly just constant rain all day with some gusts of wind. Having just moved to Florida earlier this year I’m thankful that this storm wasn’t too bad for our first serious Florida storm event

Glad Elsa wasn't that bad for you guys. We here in NJ actually had 5 areas that were examined by NWS for tornadic activity - 2 confirmed, 1 of which was not far form me. I don't have any interior rooms with no windows, so sat in the hallway outside the bathroom, with the bathroom door closed. Was very scary, especially since tornadoes are not common here in NJ, and this was the 2nd tornado WARNING in a week. Plus, I lovie alone, and have mobility issues, so I was pretty scared. In my area of East Central NJ, we had a bit of wind, but not bad, torrential rains, and EPIC amounts of lightning. My power flickered quite a few times, but didn't go out, thank goodness. as we were (and still are) in the grips of some pretty long and intense heat waves this summer, and the humidity has also been ridiculous. Our power lines in my retirement community are buried, but we still CONSANTLY lose power - I've been here 18 months, and have lost power 7-8 times - it's ridiculous, drives me nuts, and I can't understand it at all!! :( :( When I lived in North Eastern NJ (right across from NYC), we lost power for THREE WEEKS from Irene - both because of trees down, but also some flooding. That storm actually hit us MUCH harder than Hurricane Sandy, at lest in that area!! Good idea about getting the laundry done just in case you lose power, Jenn, I do the same, and I also clean the house (especially vacuum!). Yep I charge up everything, and have d/l'd stuff on my tablet, and have a small battery backup that always make sure is topped off, just in case. Loved hearing Jackson say "egg" (pretty well, too!) and "hi" (felt like he was speaking just to me, too!) :) , and loved his light up shoes. First time I saw light up shoes was on a Disney bus, at night, and I thought I had drank too much at Pleasure Island (yes - was a AWHILE ago!), and I was fascinated with them - which the kid wearing them LOVED!! :) :) I love chocolate chip and pecan cookies - and Disney prices are obscene;. On everything. All the time. Always. TOTALLLY obscene. Loved Jackson's "aaah{ after drinking some of Tim's smoothie - SO cute! :) Socially distanced hugs from New Jersey to the 3 of you. Stay strong, stay positive, stay health

As a Midwesterner who just went through some major tornadoes in their area, there isn’t a great way to prepare like with a hurricane. We pack go bags that we keep in our shelter room in case we need to evacuate if there is damage and our home is unlivable as well as our pet carriers in case we need to move them out or keep them contained. Also charging portable batteries and electronics in case we lose power. Also, your phone should make an alarm sound if it turns to a tornado warning. That’s what woke me up and kept us safe last time. Hope this is helpful in case they pop up in your area again!

Always get so excited when I see you just post for the day! Hope you all stay safe! A tip from the Midwest, tornado sirens aren’t designed to be heard in doors and most likely wouldn’t wake someone if they aren’t at least half a mile close go one. Weather radios and the Tornado app from American Red Cross will for sure help in your sleep!
