My thoughts on Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko) , a Japanese Animated Film by Makoto Shinkai.
In the video I explain the plot and story of Weathering With You and go in depth on the meaning behind the film. The film explores the relationship of Hodaka Morishima and Hina Amano, a young love that has to face some very unique and obstacles in a world that is plagued by constant rain.

Makoto has been confirmed to already be making his next film which is assumed to be released in 2022.Hopefully he expands on the universe that he has created since with the Your Name and Weathering characters while also continuing a story where Japan is flooded.

I actually liked that he decided to save Hina, despite the consequences. It made him into a more proactive protagonist. And while it may seem selfish at first. The police was gonna get him whether he succeeded or nor. So he didn't do it for himself, to be with her. He just did it for her to live. It was a selfless act.

The way I view the decision to reverse the sacrifice: Tokyo seemed doomed from the start. Hina wouldn't be the first sacrifice. Her death would just be delaying the inevitable until someone else walked through that gate. So Hina would have just been another in a long list of kids being sent to their death to preserve the current way of life.

wasn't she already a weather maiden? like, isn't the abnormal weather caused by the weather maiden and that if she DID sacrifice herself, it would all come to a halt. or are there other weather maidens that exist? AHHHHH confused

The story of the film is not so incredible as you explain, but the soundtrack is out of this world. I only wish I could speak Japanese to understand all the lyrics, because it's just so beautiful.

honestly the ending somewhat rubbed me the wrong way. not only that someone would have probably gotten killed by the explosion she prayed into existence, which was probably unintentional, but just think of how many people probably drowned/had their lives ruined. I'm not saying that they should have honored Hina's sacrifice, but i mean, someone probably should have reasoned with Hodaka, probably there where Suga confronted him. maybe add a scene where Hina and Hodaka have to say goodbye (going through the tori gate). still, it was a pretty good film imo.

I agree I think a better ending wouldve been if hodaka went to save her And then was really confronted by the decision to save her or let the rest of the people of Tokyo suffer

Its not just "lmao the weather is crazy but loves crazy! heart heart" but like, now there's extreme homelessness and extreme mould in the few buildings that are left standing, probably all slowly deteriorating. They maybe could have let her live on as a sky fish, like in big fish begonia (really good underrated film)

I think that this movie is talking about depression and how the medicaments bring light to the person but at the same time we lose it. The meaning of the plot is that Hodoka decide to live with the depression of Hina and learning that this rain is just a part of the world of Hina instead a sickness that need a cure. I mean, maybe i'm wrong but this is the interpretation that i do .

I take a lot of issue with viewing depression as a part of someone. It's not. It may feel like it is if you've lived with it for a long time, but it's an illness and while people can make the most of it, there is nothing inherently good about it. Medication isn't perfect and you could argue it's overprescribed, but it does help people live more normal lives without losing who they are as people. We are not our illnesses and romanticizing them will only lead to further harm down the road.

if you watch the movie again, notice how when he shoots you can hear the man fall to the ground, as if he was shot and died, what if? but insted he was just shocked and they ran away

I really enjoyed Weathing With You and was happy Hinata survived but it felt so wrong to support since Japan was now under water!

The story is about a kid that falls in love with a girl and he will do anything to see her again, even if it means changing the world. You are making a big deal about her using her powers to make money? LMAO ... What did you want them to do steal ? commit a crime? ... you are ridiculous. Everyday people use their skills to make money. Athletes,doctors,nurses,etc, etc , etc every day we all use our skills to make money.
