In this video, I take you on the journey of weaving one scarf in the course of one year. At first, I didn't plan this project to take so much time! The video covers some difficulties I experienced while warping my loom and at the beginning of the weaving. I also share the beautiful deep sea blues scarf that I wove despite of the difficulties.

THE YARN
For the project presented in the video, I’m using yarn from Maurice Brassard.
-The warp is 8/2 cotton in the color "noir" (83) (which means black). I used only 1 cone.
Here's where you can get the same yarn: woolery.com/maurice-brassard-...
-For the weft, I used 8/2 Tencel in the color "vieux bleu" (which means old blue). I used only 1 cone and I had plenty left on it after the project.
Here's where you can get this yarn: woolery.com/maurice-brassard-...
THE BOOK
For the threading of project, I followed a draft provided in Anne Dixon Book: The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory. This draft can be found at page 81. Here’s where you can get this wonderful book: woolery.com/handweavers-patte...
THE PATTERN

Thank you for this video! I have a project on my loom that has been there for a year now. I bit bigger than I can chew on that one. First cotton project, first fancy threading with a design, done in a weaving group where everybody posted their successes daily. I like you, had to roll my weft to front beam and redo tension and it caused me so many tension issues down the line. It was only for 2 dish towels, but the pattern is so fancy on it, in addition to all the other issues…. I worked through the first one and decided the second one is only plain weave. I rethreaded plain pattern. Thank goodness because as I moved ahead, tension is crazy off. Floaters here and there. This vidéo is so encouraging to me because it shows that anybody can struggle with a project, even you. :). Gives me courage to power through and get to weaving something easy and fun (cause no way am I cutting off that warp, am way too cheap to waste it). Your scarf is beautiful and that centered line is the best artistic design I have seen. :)

I'm so sorry for you and for your project. I understand your struggle so well. I wish you to get done with this last towel quickly. I'm sure you'll have plenty of other fun weaving projects ahead of you 🥰 Thank you for sharing 😊

What a long journey but you got a nice scarf out of it, so it was worth it in the end. 🙂 That's the colour I voted for and it looks great.

You are so incredible! Super Woman! I don't know how you juggle all of your weaving projects, go full time school/work, time with home/partner, and other! Brava! I do have a question: about how many heddles did you think you used per shaft? I am dipping my toe (finally) into the 4-harness world. Although I will do narrower samples for starting out, I wonder if I won't have to buy additional heddles to install (*shudder*). Thank you for sharing these great instructional videos.

Thank you so much! I also don't know how I do it hahah! I think it's the passion that keeps me going. To answer you, I used a total of 480 heddles. I didn't need the same amount of heddles on each shaft. The one where I needed the most heddles was the second shaft with 160 heddles. I hope this helps! I wish you good luck with your 4-harness journey. I'm sure that you will weave wonderful fabrics!

Bonjour. C'est mon plan de faire des vidéos en français sur les bases du tissage. Je ne sais pas exactement quand je vais pouvoir les faire puisque mon horaire actuellement est assez chargé, mais cela s'en vient éventuellement!
