I want one. It would be the perfect replacement for the small portable Navajo loom that I made years ago. It just fell apart from age even though I tried to take care of it. You're right, the tap-tap-tap as you pack threads is very soothing. Thanks for this episode. Be well.

Thanks! I have been exploring Tapestry weaving for a couple years now... Used to meet once a month with other Tapestry weavers which was very helpful, until the pandemic hit. Starting to get back with them though, now. Very satisfying and creative craft. Still soooo much to learn!!! Love your videos!

I’ve always been interested in tapestry weaving, but never felt like the equipment was as user-friendly as floor looms. So thank you for showing us this new loom. I’m going to look into one right away. I’ll also be looking up Jenna’s classes.

you are a joy to learn from. i love tapestry weaving & searching for the best loom. this loom is beautiful, i just hope it’s not too costly. right now i’m drum carding fleece, then dye, spin before weaving. i just love the whole process! i’m in florida, & haven’t found a like minded person. so your video is my group. thank you for being a light in the dark. Thanks for an inspirational voyage into tapestry weaving on this loom. I have been using an Ashford Rigid Heddle loom for a couple of years and really enjoy it. I wanted to try tapestry since I love the idea of designing with all my leftover yarns. I also have always coveted beautiful oriental rugs and the colors in them. Also, any trip I make to Anthropology has me drooling at the wonderful tapestry pillows they sell. I’m more into showcasing textures than making pictures. I can see incorporating natural elements such as wood, twigs, lavender sprigs, and the like into my weavings as well. I just bought a 28” Schacht tapestry loom,used, and can’t wait to take it for a spin. I’ll look into Janna’s class as well. Thanks, again!

I have a warp weighted loom. This style of loom has been in use for thousands of years. It has most of these efficiency ‘gadgets’ but in a much more primitive way, of course. Nothing under the sun is new! 😀

Glad to see this. I've been intrigued by the design of this loom since seeing it's launch on Schacht's blog. One thing I have not seen, that I wish someone would demonstrate, is the actual size of the shed you get with it. That is (or should be) one of the deciding factors for someone like me who has other tapestry looms. Something about a new design needs to be an improvement, and in tapestry looms, the size of the shed is always pretty skimpy. I'm currently weaving a Navajo-style tapestry, on a Navajo loom (Dovetail brand), but also have both Mirrix and Hagen tapestry looms, among others. Love to see what you will do with it!

Oh good point. Haha I’m coming from the point of view of weaving with no shed at all so to me, anything is better than nothing! 🤣 but yes I have a clip of the shed opening and closing... I’ll pop that into another video down the line ☺️ thanks for the suggestion

I love the Make 9 challenge. I like the way you have them pictured on a paper in full color. Mine is just on a paper list. I have reevaluated my Make 9 and have started several projects and finished a couple. I still love most of the projects on my list and everything is taking longer this year, but still in the works. Like you, I tend to do different crafts seasonally. I LOVE your current attic studio. Why are you building a different one? Your current one seems ideal and cozy and is what originally drew me to your podcast.

Thanks Chelle! Yes I love my attic studio too! I'm still keeping it as my home studio, but I need one at "work" where I can better collaborate with guest instructors and our SweetGeorgia team to create teaching content for the School. It's hard to fit us all in the tiny attic space ... we've tried! :)

Ordered one of these some weeks ago. Did tapestry with Penny Gouldstone at UBC many years ago, and loved it. But like you, couldn't find a loom that did what I wanted and that was reasonably priced. |I wanted a tension bar and a shedding device. This came up in a Handwoven magazine, and I jumped at it. Nice overview of the loom. I'll be looking at Jenna's classes as soon as I get the loom.

This was a wonderful video- you have no idea how I appreciate you talking about your different "seasons" of crafting, I'm going through terribly trying times in my life, and my attention span is invisible. I'll be knitting one thing and lose interest, try and spin and leave that, crochet a project and get bored with that (plus I'm an artist- the list goes on of unfinished work 🙄😞)- and I feel like I'm cheating on one craft with another and feel so guilty! 😒

Hi Felecia. Great video. I’m brand new to weaving. I haven’t done it since I was a Girl Scout. I would love to know what you think about the frame looms with a heddle bar. I actually purchased mine from Funem (Belgian) 19” warp - but I was thinking the same thing about the tension. I don’t really want to do tapestry I want to weave soft but not gauzy cloth. I actually can use the shuttle sticks as “shaft” but I’m not good with the tension yet. My warp and weft were both organic cotton and about the same size, but I struggle with picking the right yarns. I get the warp spacing right but it’s still gauzy.

What was your daughter weaving on? Personally not interested in weaving tapestry but am looking for more information on weaving small shawls. I enjoy watching the creativity involved in doing tapestry but don't see myself doing it.

Oh yes, my daughter is weaving on the Fisher Price toy loom that I had as a kid :) It's basically a rigid heddle loom made of plastic.

Does anyone know about the Bexel Cranbrook Loom?

The Cranbrook loom is a Scandinavian-style countermarche loom that has a long history that you can explore here: www.schachtspindle.com/pdfs/cranbrook-legacy.pdf Originally it was designed and manufactured by Bexel and then Norwood and now Schacht. In 1996, Schacht acquired the Cranbrook loom to include in their line of weaving looms. Do you have one of these looms?
