All you'd have to do is replace the string with elastic kevlar (or just normal), and them use the hot glue from joels creates, then make an self-retractable motor that retracts the kevlar, then you have a webshooter that can hold a person

The mechanics would fail before the web shooter would. You would need to find a way to offload the pull force to yourself and not the intricate parts inside the shooter.

I wouldn't be surprised if farther into the future you end up creating an exact replica of the Web Shooters from Spider-Man that can actually be strong enough to swing from building to building, though I don't think us as humans are physically strong enough to be able to withstand the fall and speed of swinging from building to building but hey it's worth a thought 😂

Have you tried using wire instead of rope, if you were to you could use electromagnets allowing you to grab and release things.

It can be done however making an electro magnet that small (while its entirely possible to do at home) it would still have the same power as the neodymium magnet unless yoy run tons of amps to make it stronger even then you would only have a couple of seconds to use it before the elctro mag wore out
