Zack McConnell I haven’t watched much since Mark retired either. But I know there has been a lot of rule changes and different scoring system. I watched the race a couple of weeks ago I didn’t know 3/4 of the drivers. Sad really because I was die hard for a long time. Rarely did I miss watching a race.

When it came to NASCAR back in the 90s I ate and slept Mark Martin. He was my man and still is. The smallest guy among drivers but with the biggest heart. He never won Daytona or championship but he was a better driver then some who have. He still left his mark on the sport, pun intended. It's good to see him doing so well in retirement. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. The museum looks very impressive and I would sure like to check it out someday.

Mark Martiñ was my man back from the red Folgers car when he was fighting Dale Earnhardt for champion. Got to see him win a race at Talladega. The fastest Talladega race ever. It was a rain date and I think there was no caution the whole race. It was back 98 I believe , fun time my buddy went with his girl it got rained out so they were partying with people and one of the poeple they were hanging out with couldn't come back for the rain redo so he gave my buddy his ticket and he took me for free. Great memory of Mark and racing back then.

We all make mistakes just don't usually have cameras recording those mistakes. Mark Martin was the same person if not even nicer when he convinced me to get the strawberry shortcake from the concessions at Lakeland Speedway, then he had paid for it. It was funny cause I never acknowledged who he was other than asking how his sons truck was running (the reason he was at Lakeland).

When people ask the question of "what is wrong with today's NASCAR?", my answer usually focuses on three areas: Drivers, the cars and race locations. Aside from the goofy looking Gen 6 car that races like crap and the expansion we saw at the end of the 1990s that moved races north and west at the expense of the southeast, my biggest gripe with today's NASCAR are the drivers themselves. I really miss having unique and interesting personalities such as Mark Martin competing on the circuit. There were once so many of them. Now it seems there are none. Not only do we have cookie cutter cars racing on cookie cutter 1.5 mile tracks, but we also have cookie cutter drivers that all seem to be from the same mold. In comparison to the previous generation of NASCAR drivers, the current group is so bland, boring and unappealing. And the few that are different (such as Kyle Busch) aren't really interesting or likable, they just stand out because they are such primadonnas and cry babies. What ever happened to these larger than life heroes that I once watched race on Sunday?

Ya everyone says he is so fit and what not. And maybe he is....but he started looking really rough in his later years in racing. I ran into quite a few people in the Milwuakee area that said he was a big partier. A bar that Jimmy Fenning used to pop into now and again. Fenning was a cool guy. I can't believe that a few years of having some drinks would make him age as he has. Maybe just bad genetics

Enh...nascar did him dirty a couple times. Hard to beat the Man on or off the track during the golden era. The carb spacer deal that cost him a championship was bs. He did, however drive for one of the douchiest, lying, cheating scam artists in any business ever. Often times, the people you associate with make it seem like you have hard luck.
