Lemmy is such an an awesome writer, they way he characterizes all of the Thomas characters are just so… right. Despite the more mature dialogue and themes he occasionally sets the characters in, they still FEEL like those characters. Like for instance, Thomas might be a cheeky, snarky jerk, and a bit of a naive thrill-seeker, but he’s certainly an ADULT, one with proper responsibilities, an ability to explore more complex emotions, and a BUNCH of life experience for him to have already learned, including living through both world wars. I REALLY love how that’s brought up semi-regularly in Lemmy’s works as well, the fact that Thomas is essentially a war veteran. He wasn’t actively being blown up or anything, it’s not like he was on the front lines obviously, but you can tell the stress of the war and demand for the railways to provide their services took a toll on him, and even 4 decades later we can still see how that affects him. He’s nuanced, there’s a lot going on with him, and you definitely captured that aura of sheer power and anger he displays after Diesel finally figured that out and made him CRACK. Thomas embodies the spirit of all of Sodor, he’s a rebel. He believes in identity, he believes in individuality, he’s passionate about his home and will gladly defend it. Contrast that in a world plagued by deceit, corporate corruption, and modernization. A world that seems like it’s avidly trying to strip you of your freedoms and individuality and into the mundane, one in the masses. I love this. Awesome stuff!!! rip that tomy shed tho

this has got to be one of my favorite parts in web of lies, the fact that thomas was so pissed that he bashed diesel off the rails is something sticks with you. Thomas has gotten made before, but hit a nerve with him and he'll get physical, if only briefly.
