Thanks. Someone else asked. I didn’t make it clear. We usually do “roses, buds, and thorns” sitting around the campfire. We take turns. Sometimes we go in the circle, and sometimes the person sharing gets to pick the next person.

I heard another KZfaqr doing something similar the other day. I forget what the other two were, but “thorn” was called “character builder.” It’s a good tool to have when leading a group.

I do the “Don’t skip the cool stuff!” It’s more of a bud. Don’t walk all those miles and skip the overlook because it’s 100 yards out of the way. 😬

I can tell when I am getting tired. That’s when the length of a blue blaze affects my decision to go look at the view or not. When I don’t want to take the blue blaze, it’s probably when I should. A little break with a view is always good.

Never heard of this. I'm confused. How are you "doing" roses, buds and thorns? I understand what each one would stand for, just don't understand the "doing" part. Forgive me, my brain isn't clear this morning.

Sorry! We most often do it sitting around the campfire or the fire ring if we don’t have a fire. We take turns. If we have new people or guests, a couple experienced people go first and everybody catches on to what we are doing right away. When we are on a long distance trail and sharing a camping area or shelter with strangers, we always invite them to join us.

@@JonsDadHikesAh, I get it now. Thanks for explaining. I'm a little slow sometimes. I think that's a neat and probably really fun thing to do. I've seen others that would, at the end of the day, ask about each other's highs and lows for the day. Pretty cool.
