The Panic Playdate can be used as a sampler. For 199.

Genuinely interesting. However, the physical format, I thought it was a joke at first.

i think the format is fine. the buttons are just a turn off visually. if they feel good then i like the format.

@paradockz I have spade like hands and Roland's Boutique range give me issues. Regardless nice to see some genuinely interesting new kit.

This price is ridiculous compared to what you can get from PerfectCircuit for the same price: amazing devices from Korg, Elektron, Sonicware, Moog, Roland, Bastl, and a huge selection of smaller shops making amazing devices. No one in their right mind is going to pay a $150 premium over what a device like this should be priced just so they can put a fairly limited device in their pocket instead of buying a full featured professionally developed device. This is a really nice toy at best and should be priced accordingly. If that's not possible due to development and manufacturing costs, then the device isn't tenable. It's a shame, because I'd love to throw this in my pocket to play with when I'm out, but not at that price.

Why pocket size? That doesn't matter at all.

$249 (or $225) for a... excuse me for saying that, "toy instrument"? For this money I get some used synths/workstations that are more versatile. And yes, of course you can't really compare. But shows that the price is excessive. Especially since the hardware itself is worth less than $30.

$225 gets you one eurorack module that can't work without a case and power supply and probably needs other modules. So cost versus functionality is relative. As for used gear.... I'm putting two elektron monomachines up on reverb next week for $2500 and $3200 respectively. Price ranges are all over the map for any kind of music gear, it boils down to what people are willing to pay. And Teenage Engineering wouldn't exist if people weren't willing to pay a lot for a "toy". I think if Behringer were to mass produce a clone of PGB-1, we'd see it priced around $100 to compete with the Pocket Operator, but offers a lot more functionality. B's JT-4000 Micro is only $50. As a hobbyist, I can't approach that kind of price point and I doubt Wee Noise Makers can approach it either.
