@Brittany Bennett Well yes, but actually not. Songs are created by many diferents compositors, and any compositor can have diferent imagine abou loids. So they propably have as many personalities as many song they sing. They personalities are canon in universe of song. Anybody can create them personality and that how they see them. You can make them be anybody you like.

Here are another ones *(Trigger warning)*: - "There are only 8 Vocaloids" - "I know all Vocaloid songs" (but they only knew like 100 Miku Songs) - "Vocaloid is only japanese" - "Miku is the first Vocaloid" - "Rin and Len are the second Vocaloids" - " The '01' means that Miku is the most popular Vocaloid" - "This song is made by Hatsune Miku" - (another Vocaloid sings) "Is this Miku?"
@WeebaLu

Oh yeah I definitely wanted to mention that Miku is not the first Vocaloid! Though I found that recently a lot of people know Miku is not the first, actually some newer fans already know Meiko was the first Japanese voicebank :) and most people know Vocaloid has voicebanks with multiple languages since Maika is still very popular and some other big Vocaloid hits are either in English, Korean or Portuguese :)

I have to kinda disagree when it comes to UTAU’s quality. While UTAUs certainly have a sharper sound compared to VOCALOID’s softer sound, there are some fantastic UTAUs out there that rival VOCALOID’s quality. A really good example that was shown recently is in Circus’s song Monochrome. It just all comes down to mic quality and how well someone can tune/mix them.
@WeebaLu
@WeebaLu 5 жыл бұрын
Yes but it's taken like 13 years or so to even get to the quality we're at now compared to Vocaloid. Not to mention because Utau allows you to create your own voicebank, you do have people inexperienced where the voice sounds completely metallic and most voicebanks are CV and not VCV which would definitely make a smoother transition lol
@megaupsilon
@megaupsilon 5 жыл бұрын
BKgirl483 oh yeah I’m definitely not saying that there’s some pretty low quality UTAUs out there, but it’s still entirely possible to rival the quality of VOCALOID. There’s not really a competition to see who can get the most realistic faster, so I don’t really care how long it’s taken tbh But there’s definitely a lot out there that have the same if not better quality than VOCALOID. I really don’t like comparing the two tbh dhdifbdj But I’ve just noticed that there’s a bunch out there that sound amazing

A sort of misconception that I don’t like is the whole “A and B can’t sing this together because B is older than A and that’s pedophilia! A should sing with C because they are the same age!” Luka was a high schooler in Plus Boy. Most of the Vocaloids are adults in a lot of Hito x Yama songs. Miku mentions having kids in Ai Kotoba. The ages don’t really matter. At the end of the day, Vocaloids are instruments. The only time I agree with this is when it comes to people using Yuki and Oliver to sing romantic songs with Vocaloids that were voiced by adults. That can be a little creepy since the voice providers were actual children at the time of the Vocaloid being made. Since Rin and Len, who were made to be 14, were voiced by a grown woman, it’s not really pedophilia if they sing love songs with Luka or Kaito or any other Vocaloid with an “adult” character.

I still think its creepy with kaito x len. I love my boy kaito but a dude in his 50's and a 14 year old sounds messed up no matter what you try to say. Yes they were both made by adults but think of the real life age differences. Asami Shimoda and Naoto Fuuga? They're both good people but it would be a very creepy couple. If you change the age differences in a song I think its more appropriate. Like changing luka to a teen in plus boy instead of having her in her 20's. Changing Kaito to someone not in his 50's in Erace or Zero for example is the best way to go about this kind of thing

@@olli35pgxpg5naf9 you know that you can change the age and context of the vocaloid you use ? There is plenty of songs with vocaloid like Len playing an adult character. They are instruments. Do you think that a piano age of 16 years shouldn't have music made with an other piano age of 20 ? It's the same. The pictures are only box design to make it more pretty. The characters being used are also use for promotional events and commercial appeal. It will be pedophile if it's clearly state on the song lyrics, music video or by the author itself that one of virtual singer play a young person and the other an adult in a romance or perverted way. And by this age thing, it's same with the roles they play. Does it mean that vocaloid shouldn't play a horrific, mean and disgusting roles just because their art box show something else ? Art is free speech unless you hurt someone physically. Hurting people feelings doesn't care.

One more: "Kaito Shion and Meiko Sakine are confirmed to be 21" 1. It's KAITO (all caps, really) not Kaito Shion. He has no surname. 2. It's MEIKO (their names actually are in caps), not Meiko Sakine. Sakine Meiko is just another fanloid character like Akita Neru and Yowane Haku. 3. KAITO and MEIKO have no confirmed official ages 4. In the Hatsune Mix manga, KEI portrayed them as middle-aged, but he himself announced that it was not official and only his perception. 5. They are not 21, they have no official ages as mentioned before. I have no idea why a huge lot of the fandom perceives them to be the specific number of 21. You can actually portray them as 3 or 3000 and you aren't wrong. Though, it _would_ be a little weird... Another one: "Kaito belongs to Miku/Meiko/Luka/Rin/Len/Gakupo/Gumi/Miki/ [insert name]!!" 1. No, Kaito belongs to Naoto Fuuga, Yamaha and Crypton. Similarly, Miku belongs to Saki Fujita, Yamaha and Crypton. Meiko belongs to Meiko Haigo, Rin and Len belong to Shimoda Asami, and so on.
@WeebaLu
@WeebaLu 5 жыл бұрын
They may not be 21 but there was an interview stating Kaito is "Older than he looks" so to me that means Kaito's gotta be in his late 20's right? so like...Meiko and Kaito being 27/28 ish? I think them being 21 probably refers to their own special wine brand they have so people are assuming the US legal drinking age LOL Even tho the legal drinking age in Japan is 19. ALSO YES TO ALL THAT THO!
@WeebaLu
@WeebaLu 5 жыл бұрын
@@kaguroi I wouldn't say 14 because that's way too young to have a voice that deep, even for Kaito soft and whisper lol I think 16-20+ is better just because his voice is definitely too mature for someone that young anyway. Crypton still hasn't officially said his age and I'm fine with it tbh. I just personally view Kaito being like 25-28 because a really young looking guy who turns out to be much older is a funny trope to me lol Oooo what would be super adorable is if Kaito is the age his voice provider was when he first recorded for him :)

@@ChaoticMushy Well, not partner, but complimentary voice banks. They go with each other. In the beginning (as I heard) was that they intend to legit make MEIKO and KAITO an actual couple but still decided to give more freedom to creators and producers, another reason is that they couldn't have KAITO finish in time to catch up with MEIKO so they ditched the idea of being a couple. So yes, KAIMEI is a subtly official couple.

My only complaint is, people can have plenty of headcanons about their favorite Vocaloids. Obviously it's wrong to assume that is the "only" personality, or to push your headcanons on other people, but if I say "Tonio is a grump, Kaito is a dork, Leon is a nerd, and Cyman is a sweetheart", I don't think there's anything wrong with that -- just my headcanons! @@phiikichi And that's super fair! There are a ton of good-quality UTAU out there. I forgot I made this comment at all tbh, but I think my thought process was more, you have to make it from scratch with the recordings, the .oto, each pitch, everything. And then for any language other than Japanese, users have had to make their own dictionaries and figure out a way to make it sound decent in a program that wasn't meant to support it. So it's extremely impressive that so many UTAUs sound really good and even better than some Vocaloids, and the work and dedication that users put into it is amazing! :)

I've been a Vocaloid user/fan since 2007 and your point about Rin and Len gave me horrible flashbacks to forum debates about whether Rin/Len were mirror images or twins. People were just short of murdering each other over it; I hated it so much. Does that shit still happen? omg EDIT: Also, adding onto the "Vocaloid is an anime" bit: There were more debates after the Black Rock Shooter anime came out. People kept calling BRS the official "Vocaloid anime" even though it didn't have a vocaloid character in it (although the ryo song was used in it). iirc, the song is based off of a character that isn't actually Miku (but does look like her) and the song was inspired by the character design. When the BRS anime came out, the fandom was a mess whenever someone asked "is Vocaloid an anime?" I feel like an old man talking about his old war stories now.

Eeeexactly Vocaloids can be what the fans interpret them to be. I still see Rin and Len as twins, but if there's songs where they're lovers, it's cute. One misconception I really hate is when some people go on and on about how Vocaloid songs are better than Western music because “tHeY dOnT sInG aBOuT sEx aNd DrUGs!!!” Like, Vocaloid is basically an instrument and anyone can make whatever song they want. And there’s tons of sexually charged Vocaloid songs. Plenty of very popular Vocaloid songs have explicit lyrics. Plus there’s a lot of Western pop songs that have clean lyrics. There’s nothing wrong with sexually explicit songs of course but it’s so annoying hearing people spout things they know nothing about. Oh, and another thing that annoys me is when some people act like certain Vocaloids (specifically Miku I guess) only sing bubbly idol pop songs and can’t sing other genres of music ever.
@WeebaLu
@WeebaLu 5 жыл бұрын
Everyone just has to look at Romeo & Cinderella, Two Faced Lovers, Cantarella or Megane to know there are definitely sexually themed Vocaloid songs lol I mean, it's also a dumb statement in general because the West is an entirely different culture compared to Japan, sex sells in the West while Japan's way of getting something popular is different. I agree though! Though I do there are obviously some Vocaloid's that can only sing one genre. Tonio for example sounds pretty bad if you have him sing anything other than opera or broadway musical songs lol

I know a lot of people probably said this already, but I just get mad when people call Vocaloid "weeb music." They just look at the Vocaloids' designs, notice they look like they're from an anime, and call it weaboo. I saw someone comment this on Rolling Girl on SoundCloud, and they didn't seem to know that the song was about suicide. A lot of Vocaloid songs talk about heavy topics like this, but in ways that actually help people, which is amazing since I don't hear a lot of radio songs that are like this (at least in America, from my personal experience). Especially with things like 13 Reasons Why, people have been scared to make songs about those topics, and for good reason, but it's really great to know that Vocaloid has already been talking about that in ways that help people. A lot of KZfaq comments on the PVs say that those songs have helped them. Anyway, I didn't mean to make it this long, oof.

an expansion about utau, while yes some utaus can be very metallic (this being a big case with the vipperloids, teto, ritsu, ruko (female) ) the quality of the vocals can also be at time even better articulated than vocaloid! the base recordings are what makes a soundbank sound metallic, tinny or clear this being said most utaus which have been created recently... tyaroemon, merry kohaku and so on are not as tinny and can be very clear! having a good sampler (fresamp, moresampler) plus knowing how to use flags and tune is also a way to make utau sound less metallic! it's freeware program with tons of plugins and high quality voice banks! the mixing and tuning is what makes an utau cover sound good, the recording of the utauloid is what helps the work have clarity!
@WeebaLu
@WeebaLu 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I know of that! However I am explaining that the most common and popular Utau have a tendency to sound very robotic and fake. It takes a lot of work and dedication to make a Utau come close to sounding true to life (as shown with Circus P's Utau for the song Monochrome) so most people usually record with whatever headset they have and just hope for the best. Even my own Utau was recorded with an old microphone and sounds as well as you expect xD Yeah, it's 100% possible to remove the metallic voice of an Utau but most Utau tend to not have that much work put into them when comparing them to the realistic ones.

There's one more related to the second one "Teto Kasane should be a vocaloid one day!" No, Teto has to be a UTAU. She started UTAU! She is the queen of UTAU and can't be transferred to Vocaloid! Similarly, no one would make Miku a UTAU. Therefore, Teto sticks as a UTAU and will be proud to be the first UTAU. If she's transferred to the high-quality Vocaloid, we won't have a cute robotic voice anymore. It'll just become a normal anime voice.

And the magic / fantasy elements relating to either the younger vocaloids going on adventures or the love and devotion from certain fans / users of the program makes them come to life or something....really the content could be any thing the hardest thing is keeping up with all the characters , character development , story arches , ect. as there are soooo many vocaloids now and they just keep coming up with new ones. I agree with a lot of this list. However on the Utau subject, they can actually sound much more human or fine tuned than Vocaloid. It's the same issue with Vocaloid, it's the person/mix/tuning that effects the voice-banks. Anyone can butcher VBs, anyone can make them sound perfect. Some VBs aren't that great, some are, but it all does come down to how it's used by the person. For anyone looking into Utau I would suggest looking at Utau like Yamine Renri and Namine Ritsu's latest voice-bank. Users like Kyaami and Police Piccadilly for example do pretty well with them. It's very easy to come across a random video of an Utau with poor tuning and assume that the VB or Utau itself is poor, when it's not that case. Please don't let that deter you from using/listening to Utau.
@calicobra

Yes but it's a very rare occurrence to find an Utau that meets that quality and when they do it also requires a lot of tuning and mixing that almost no one really has the patience for because of how wacky it is to tune in Utau. I've been a fan since 2013 so it's sad to see the fandom has been slowly dying but it's great to see content Creator's like you making videos about vocaloid(≧▽≦)

I saw this video circulating around, and I'm going over both points you made in the video and things you've said in the comments. *To start, it is only difficult to make an UTAU voicebank sound good when singing high notes if that UTAU does not have a pitch recorded to cover that range. Many UTAU have multiple pitches recorded to cover both higher and lower octaves so that the voice does not sound strained when singing these parts. *The UTAU community is quite vast, so you can't just say "90% of UTAU/UTAU covers is like this or that". This is a highly generalized statement that exaggerates and only spreads misinformation, and it's worth noting that individual experience is opinion and not necessarily fact. It's also extremely disrespectful to say that 90% of users don't put hard work/aren't willing to put hard work into their creations. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist, and it doesn't give you the right to generalize based off the margin you do know about. "It's taken 13 years for UTAU to reach Vocaloid quality " is not a fair argument. Vocaloid 1-2 isn't noted to be the absolute best in quality, expressiveness, etc. , (having tons of covers with poor results). You must also consider that the program is given updates every so often. UTAU, on the other hand, has not received an official update in over 5 years, and many covers that have been produced using it can surpass Vocaloid covers that use Vocaloid's newest engine. Good UTAU covers even span from years before now. And your comment about finding USTs with bad voicebanks is something easily debatable. Obviously if you search for a ust of an old song (or one featured in an old cover) you're bound to find results dating back from a time when the program wasn't at its latest update and/or when people didn't have as much resources as they do now. Resources for UTAU can be scarce but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Any UTAU/Vocal Synth forum like Utaforum or a discord server like UTAU-R-US can easily provide you with help and pair you with users who have made tutorials and are willing to answer any questions/give feedback if asked. Saying that no resources exist/so few exist that it's impossible to do anything of quality with UTAU only spreads negative information and blatantly ignores all the good help that can be found if you actually try to search for it. *Not to mention that if you only search in one area (like sticking to KZfaq and Google and not searching Japanese sites like Niconico) you leave out a huge chunk of the existing community as a whole and narrow it down to just the part you bothered to consider. *I saw in another comment of yours that you said it's not good to act as though a program is without its cons. I agree, but you didn't really list any pros in your brief video commentary regarding UTAU (saying something roughly along the lines of the program being, for lack of a better term, "a poor man's Vocaloid" isn't exactly a pro or a compliment). To further this you didn't quite list any cons for Vocaloid during the comparison, either. You failed to give a proper and fair comparison, particularly when you snagged two covers as examples, from two completely opposite sides of the quality spectrum, (a poorly made/adjusted Ritsu cover compared to a well-tuned Rin cover), and didn't bother listing or showing any covers highlighting UTAU's capabilities or covers displaying Vocaloid being poorly used. *And high-quality or just even good UTAU are not at all difficult to find. In a relatively short time, I was actually able to compile a playlist of just a handful of good UTAU found on KZfaq alone (excluding platforms also filled with good voicebanks like SoundCloud and Niconico). You can shuffle the playlist and listen to find that any one of the covers is not the stereotypical "metallic" or "low-quality" you described. kzfaq.info/sun/PLJEiamOfqWNtBxB8lDuPZMwuJn31DpOtG UTAU is free and a majority of completed voicebanks are not private. Ex. Sakurazawa Sakura Darling Honoka Elie Ms. Atia Gahata Meiji KYE Akesato Shirone Tenshi Celeste Kurobousuku Crecia Selestewa Yamine Renri GAO Number Bronze ...and many many more (It's also worth noting that one of the reasons voicebanks considered amongst the best, like Yamine Renri for example, hold such prowess *because* they are noted to be easy to use and easy to make sound good.) *Now I want to make it clear that I hold no animosity/disrespect towards you, I just found that this video and your comments reflected large bias and generalizations that would give many people misconceptions about the UTAU program that could easily have been debunked through proper research, a bit ironic considering this entire video is meant to dispell myths regarding a vocal synth, it'd be nice if the other synth you did mention was showed a similar respect. I also think this video would have benefitted from a better comparison if one was going to be made, or at least one showcasing multiple examples instead of two that varied so differently.

Omg yes. Thank you for writing this comment, I was just about to make the same points. I was surprised when she compared Rin singing to that not very well handled song. I would like her to compare it for example to Gahata Meiji-Delusion Tax. Would've shown the real comparison at least. And just the way she responds to comments is so rude. Acts like she swallowed all the knowledge and there is no other opinion or constructive criticism. Another very small thing that made me raise my eyebrow is the way she read the misconceptions. People make mistakes, they are not dumb. I once saw a KZfaqr that recorded vocaloid videos and if somebody asked about Teto politely they would either delete their comment or answer acting very entitled and rude implying that this person is stupid. I feel like this person maybe didn't have bad intentions but definitely brought different misconceptions instead of solving all... A bit of respect to others would help as well. Anyways, I totally agree with what you said. Vocaloids are great, UTAUs are great too. UTAU songs can be horrible, but so can Vocaloid ones.

@@chirosechi4537 No problem! I read through her responses to other comments and decided to put together counter-arguments all in one place (but I don't know if she saw them; I see she has a tendency to only really pay attention to people saying really nice things/jokes). I really didn't like how she didn't include multiple covers for her comparison, and all her points about UTAU vs. Vocaloid just seemed incredibly biased and misinformed that it's really ironic such things were even said in a video meant to break misconceptions. It's weird how she expects people to change their views based on her video, but when people try to correct her on certain things, her mind seems set in stone. And that's true, I saw quite a few comments saying that her mocking voice was disrespectful, and it was, considering that people new to vocal synth fandoms just need to be educated, not belittled. Although I did agree with some things she said in the video (anything objective and not biased/opinion-based) the way she handled discussing things left little to be desired.
