Today is week 5 of my 6 week Super Low Spend Budget of $10 a week for the next 6 weeks!... but wait...we extended this until the end of February!
I am excited to say I decided to join Jessica ‪@threerivershomestead‬ for her pantry challenge. You know I started 2 weeks before the new year due to our finances; however, 4 weeks into my own challenge I have been inspired to join so many others doing the #threeriverschallenge
10 weeks for under $10 would mean less than $100 for 10 weeks! This would help our budget immensely!
Jessica's first rule is that you make your own rules for your family! I love this because we are all different!
My rules for MY challenge:
1. Spend no more than $10 a week on groceries
2. Focus on dairy and fresh produce for the $10
3. Meal Plan from my pantry and freezers before going to the store
4. Document my pantry before and after the challenge
5. Be 100% transparent and real
6. Give myself some grace
7. Use prepper pantry budget only in the event of an extreme sale ($100 is budgeted for January)

Thank you for sharing. I am doing the same challenge. I have a well-stocked pantry and have decided we are living out of the pantry and freezers until they are all gone. Then, I plan on buying different shelves and adding better organizational products to make it easier when I go "shop" out of my pantry. I am putting away the grocery money so I will do a tremendous job when I find sales to stock up. I have an electric canner (actually 3) and love it!

Am I the only one that takes the tomatoes off of the vine before putting them in the bag? 🤔 No sense paying for the weight that will be thrown away. 😊🍅🤷🏻‍♀️

I love leftovers of certain food. I’m not a big ham, pork chop or roast beef kind of person so I don’t eat that as leftovers. You should think about getting red wiggler worms! I feed them all the peels from veggies and fruit plus used coffee grounds. It’s a good way to have less waste plus they get shredded cardboard and paper work from our business. The “poop” would be a great addition to your garden as it’s considered gold.

Hey hey Jessica!! Certain things are definitely not that great as leftovers! For Ham I generally put it in something like soup, or eggs! LOL...I think next week we will do gourmet grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. Bridger makes the best grilled cheeses!! I would love to get worms, I just don't know where I would keep them. I save a lot of my veggie scraps to make broth and such but worms would be awesome!!

@@SnowGardener yeah but after you take the veggie scraps out of the broth you can give it to the worms. Most keep them in their garage or a bathroom. They don’t smell unless the greens to browns ratio gets off.

I just found your channel and subscribed. We are doing a pantry challenge also. I too have allowed extra just incase i see a super good deal. As a prepper i just can't pass up deals like that, especially in these times. You did great on your menu this week ❤

Thanks so much! 😊 I have to give myself a little wiggle room...lol!! Normally I have $500 for groceries and $200 for prepper pantry. So cutting this to $40 for groceries and $100 for prepper pantry is a huge cut. My co-worker just told me about something on sale that I am going to have to get. LOL...ok maybe not HAVE to...but I WANT it! LOL

Hahaha...there is no recipe when I make meat sauce. It really is whatever I have on hand. I usually start with the cheap store bought sauce, add diced tomatoes of some sort, and tomato paste to make it nice and thick. I like starting out with a thick sauce because I can always thin it when I pull it out of the freezer or open a jar. This time we added ground beef and sweet Italian sausage as well as mushrooms and onions. We then throw a bunch of spices in there and let it cook for hours.

Hi Marlene 👋 I absolutely loved this video, but then again, I love all of your hauls and meals, etc. You're so thorough and I know we all appreciate it. You showed some yummy meals. It's just me and the chef here, so it's hard sometimes to decide what to have, especially since our diets are different. I like that canner. Can you tell me what brand it is? Chef wants to can this summer and fall, so I'd like to get him one. Anyway, thanks for everything. Love you all. Be safe and stay warm ❤

Love the idea of setting a weekly grocery budget + extra for great sales. I definitely would have to snag a couple of those whole chickens at $0.97/lb! I haven't seen those under $12 since 2021 in my area. Your long work shifts sure make having a well-stocked freezer/pantry and meal planning extra important for having a good homelife flow. 🏆🏆 My kitchen has overhead recessed lights and the shadows are such a challenge. I don't know how See Mindy Mom has such fantastic lighting in her kitchen w/o setting up extra lighting - I wish she'd show her ceiling one of these days, lol.

Right? Those chickens were a steal! So happy I set myself up to have a small amount for those types of deals. If I bring in extra lighting I can make it better, but quite honestly I don't have time to bring lights in and out all the time. I try to do the best I can. My kitchen has no natural light so that makes it very challenging. However, it is awesome for my canning pantry...lol.

I just got that canner for Christmas and canned my first batch of chicken broth. Super excited to make spaghetti sauce. Can’t wait to put up some,ore soon. I love that deal on chicken. I haven’t seen that in years and really miss it. Great find!

I bought the canner for myself last year when I won some money! I love it! While you can't do large batches, I can do small batches while doing other things!! That chicken deal was a great deal and I knew I had to spend a little bit of my prepper pantry for it!!

Remove the stems from the tomatoes before paying for them. You don’t need to pay for stems

I leave the stems on because my store is notorious for charging for the other tomatoes if there isn't a stem.

No this is the first anyone has ever mentioned it. Do you notice something? LOL I mean I often stumble over my words and mispronounce words....LOL! I use a k sound instead of a d sound in several words without even realizing it.
