a week in the life at my home bakery. join me as I plan my menu, take orders, prep, decorate and package cakes. i love doing mixed cake slice boxes because I i get to play around with flavours and colours and textures. this week I decided it was a GREAT idea to do 2x more cake boxes than I've ever done and really push my little kitchen to the limit. this week was wild.

So, call me a weirdo but I've been binging your home bakery series. I love to listen to you talk about how many hobbies you've had and micro skills you've picked up and how they've helped you in this, because I'm very similar. A few months back I started as a pastry chef after having a love of baking, so I guess I just wanted to say please don't stop making these. As a kid I'd put jam on old cornbread and pop it in the microwave... it was delicious. It's what I imagine the corn sponge with raspberry compote would taste like and I'm here for it!

Yay we're chickens love it! It’s actually pretty easy to make your own tall cake boxes. As long as the cake can fit in the box and it has a detachable lid, you can make it as tall as you want. Also, your flavors seem interesting. P

First of all, just found your channel and love it! I have to make a lot of gluten free and dairy free desserts due to family allergies and your channel is so relatable and fun to watch! I make cakes and cookies right now as sort of a side hustle and I love your cake box idea! If you don’t mind me asking, what platform do you use to sell them/advertise flavors for that week? I really only use word of mouth for business now, but want a more widespread and professional way of getting business! Thanks!

Love your channel! I just started my home bakery…Mostly cookies but getting into cakes. Question: if you frost while the cake is frozen does the icing change as the cake thaws?

That’s a great question. There’s really no change to the texture or taste of the foregoing. Sometimes if it’s very humid and you don’t mix your food colouring into your icing throughly than the colour can bleed. Usually only happens with dark colours!

Hi I love your channel! I was salivating while watching you taste test your cakes. How do you come up with your cake ideas? Especially the cornbread and raspberry. Also I bake by sheet pans because I can't decorate at all. Do you think they can sell as well.

Hi! Thank you! I read a lot of cookbooks (especially the flavour bible!), follow a “if it grows together it goes together” philosophy, and just try stuff out. I think your cakes could definitely sell but decorated cakes do sell for higher amounts. You would want to go for a higher quantity (which isn’t too hard when you’re not spending hours decorating)

❤❤ hi I love your show. Do you do farmers market yet? I love how you were very honest about things but most people don’t understand about freezing and butter cream or whatever cream you use the next day but you have a great show. pastry Chef from Miami used to if you need anything

Hi! Really depends on what you’re selling. Breads and cookies are on the lower end. Cakes and pastries have higher margins. It’s become really lucrative through social media.

I love watching your videos, unfortunately I live in N.Z so can't get any, but they look good. I feel using gloves can be dirtier and more unhygienic then just washing hands as you don't feel anything on a glove and are more likely to cross contaminate and wash your hands less
