Hello friends of the internet! Sooo the age old question… what do I actually do?
Finally was able to put together the much requested week in the life of a figure skater in NYC video so you can get a peak into how I balance still training as a competitive figure skater while maintaining a corporate job in New York City + figuring out how to also make time for other personal goals and dedicating enough time to spend with the people I care about the most.
Also sprinkled in some skating tips, off-ice exercises, flexibility exercises etc. throughout the video so keep watching to catch them all and hopefully they are of help!
Hope you all enjoyed the video and stay tuned for more skating content to come as this season starts!

Don't stress about doing everything in your 20s! I'm in my early 30s and still feel like I'm 25 lol. If anything, things calm down a little in your 30s and you get better at balancing everything. I skate 5 days a week and do ballet and stretching and all that other stuff, so I totally relate to this video, but just wanted to say don't burn yourself out, life has a way of just working out :)

Oh thank goodness I found this comment! I feel so pressured to accomplish the world and every single goal or dream of mine before I hit 30 cuz social media conditioned me to think once you hit 30 you basically don't exist or can't. It's refreshing to see a comment like this, relieving actually

You are so right!! It's hard to separate and take a step back when you are living through all the madness. Deep breaths and one day at a time! Ballet also sounds super fun and seems like it supports skating well!

Cathy!! Thank you for the shoutout, you did indeed pronounce my name correctly hahaha. I'm so jealous of how much ice time you have available! I get the feeling skating is a much more appreciated and supported sport in North America than it will probably ever be in Europe. Rinks are very sparse, seasonal, and some don't have any ice time outside of lessons. But it is amazing that you are able to skate this much, and it shows how hard you work for it! Nonetheless I loved this video (although it did leave me with an intense desire to get up and move to the states) and I love to see you re-incorporating volleyball into your life. For me it's the same with gymnastics. I feel much differently about the sport as an adult, without the pressure of competing and from coaches and adults and I'm finally able to enjoy it again after years, alongside skating. Thank you for this video, it was perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon. PS. I'm also delulu and stretching almost daily trying to get something close to a bielmann... will probably never happen but a girl can dream right?

Hi!! I’m so glad I got it right haha! It’s so awesome that you did gymnastics and I’m sure a lot of that will translate beautifully on the ice! Hoping that Europe will soon have as big of a skating culture and have more ice time available to everyone. And yes one day we will both hopefully be able to do a biellmann! To more goals to accomplish in 2024 ❤

I can honestly say this is probably my favorite video of yours because it is so relatable for me! I am also an adult figure skater in my late 20’s who works a full time job as a middle school teacher and was even the captain of my volleyball team as a kid before I quit to fully pursue figure skating (I did both as a kid). Thank you for sharing a week with us! It’s super inspiring and motivating to me seeing you working hard to achieve the most you can in the stage of your life you are in! I can relate to the late nights and early mornings and the continual grind of balancing work and what we love to do! Keep doing great work and making great videos 😊 For possible next video suggestions, I love what you did last year where you talked about the upcoming season and then did competition vlogs for each competition you attended. Good luck with your upcoming season and I cannot wait to continue to support you on your journey ❤

Thank you for your note Ashley! I agree- balancing a sport and a full time job is truly no joke. So cool to hear that you were also once a volleyball player! Thank you for also the future suggestions and stay tuned for more to come soon ❤

I'm late to the party but I loved this video!! I know it was only a short portion but I'm really interested to see what flexibility training and stretch routines you have (at about 3:00mins). I'm a PhD student and spend most of my day sitting at my desk and don't have much time to go out for a workout. I've tried some of the stretches you mentioned here over the past few weeks has already been really helpful. Would you consider making a full-length flexibility training video with the stretches you included and omitted in the short section here? :)

Wow it's incredible you have such a packed schedule but still manage to do everything! Do you feel like it ever leads to periods of burnout or just needing more time for regular life stuff, like spending weekends out of the city, dating, or hanging out with friends? I'm from NYC and I know the hustle culture is very real here in particular. When I worked in consulting for a year and a half (nowhere near Big 5 level) I think I spent most of my weekends sleeping because I was so exhausted 😵‍💫 I just found your channel today and I'm loving your videos so far!!

Thank you for your comment because I can relate so so hard! To answer your question, yes I 100% do sometimes feel burnt out and that’s something I’m working on and trying to get better at managing! Depending on how I’m feeling physically and mentally, sometimes for the weekends, I may just stay at home, do yoga and meditate. I try my best to treat skating as something that helps me prevent myself from burnout at work but it is hard being competitive and to not put a lot of pressure on myself so honest answer: still a work in progress! Thanks for supporting the channel and appreciate you watching! ❤

Where do you shop for your equipment?
@cathydingg
@cathydingg 7 ай бұрын
I got my skates from a skate shop at this rink in Philly I used to skate at! I would say best tip would be to see if your rink has a skate shop and even better, I would ask other skaters who skate in your area what they recommend and which technicians in which shops to trust. I have honestly found that word of mouth is the best way to save you from being scammed, upcharged or just downright fitted incorrectly. Hope that helps!

What was your daily life like at UPenn?
@cathydingg
@cathydingg 6 ай бұрын
Oh boy that is a whole other can of worms haha! Maybe I should make a video about it but if I were to summarize- everyday was a bit different. Depending on my class schedule I would usually skate early morning or mid day. Most commonly I would have a morning class, head to skating mid day and then catch another 1-2 afternoon classes. After class I’ll probably make dinner and hole up at a cafe or library to study or do any other stuff I have to do for extracurricular (club meeting etc.) Hope that’s helpful! But very high level summary haha (:

I got it off of Amazon! The brand is called 4W yoga but it doesn’t seem to be selling anymore! Lulu lemon has a really good yoga mat model but it’s pricier. Most mats on Amazon usually does the trick!
