Well, week one comes to a muddy and wet end😬
I'm 4 grab wagons of muck away from site and can't help but feel progress is limited.
The rain on Wednesday has rightly screwed me up and the building inspector hasn't helped matters either.
I guess the saying all the moneys in the ground is definitely true on this build.
At least the pod has now moved and it was super successful, no damage and is now ready to go on it's journey where ever that may be.

Well done for staying true to your word of showing every major step even if that step comes with almost disaster. That will be the special ingrediant to making this a success and different from most other channels like this. You are comfortable enough in your own skim to show where mistakes happen. Its real. Im sure there are more ups and downs to gome.

Welcome to my world, been following you for ages pal so good luck. In an ideal world yes you would have waited with rain forecast but sometimes you just go to push on. Dig a small sump hole in the foundation just to drop the pump in in case it pisses down again at least then you pump out as it comes in.
@thegardenroomguru

hi, are you saying that I don't need to shutter the 1mtr parts? because Ive run out of materials and having to stop atm, can I just pump or will it still collapse? thanks
@AlanMills-ud5ko
@AlanMills-ud5ko Ай бұрын
Shutter not essential it’s just saving you the cost of additional concrete. Onsite we don’t to shutter where it’s wider than the foundation width unless it’s excessive. If it does piss down up your way Sunday like it’s forecast run the pump to stop it getting flooded out again

Fair play to you, Liam! What a week of terrible weather-we must have had a month’s worth of rain in just one day. I'm in the same boat; when you’ve got equipment on hire, you just have to keep pushing forward. Like you, I’ve been working solo on a similar project from scratch. It’s tough work,you need a lot of heart and determination and those who give negative comments have no idea how they'd handle it in your shoes. it won’t be long before you're out of the ground and making real progress.onwards and upwards!

What a strange rule about not taking wet muck away. It must never rain where they take it to dump. Should have made 2 timber box frames with struts every 1m then lowered them in between the osb 1 at the top and 1 at the bottom. The walers provide better protection horizontally then
@thegardenroomguru
@thegardenroomguru Ай бұрын
I've read this several times and I still don't know what you mean mate, can you elaborate pls
@anonay7238
@anonay7238 Ай бұрын
@@thegardenroomguru sorry, was typing that out quickly and paid no attention to grammar. Basically, if you imagine when looking in plan, that you have a rectangular arrangement of timbers (top and bottom horizontal members being your 6x3 walers, left and right verticals being your struts). That's essentially one frame that you lower into the trench and fix the walers to your OSB at the bottom. You then need another just the same to shore up the top. The distance between any one strut not exceeding 1m or thereabouts. Example, if you want to shore up a trench 3m long, your frame will be made up of 2 walers (your top and bottom 6x3 horizontals in your rectangle in plan) and 3 struts , two on each side and one in the middle. Struts would ideally be acrows but 6x3 will work just the same but not adjustable. Hope that made sense. I do have to caveat, I am an engineer but I am not telling you to do this and will not be responsible for anything that may go wrong etc etc seek professional assistance and all that (you know the gig). What I can say though is that it's a much better method of shoring the trench than what you have got now.

Liam, why did you not think to do the supers as timber frame, as framing youve done for years. Its defo faster, cost wise, probably dearer than blockwork internals but with the new build regs its simpler? As a bricky, i wish you the best of luck with the project and the weather.
