The blanket is looking good! Love your color scheme:) when first started crochet, i was doing wearables using wt. 4 yarn... and yes it does a number on the wrists and fingers. When i started doing amigurumi using bigger more plushie yarn, my hands were thanking me! I do not experience pain compared to when i use thinner yarn. I love the mindlessness of doing a blanket too:) i made a queen size using blanket yarn😮 its so so soft and comfy and kinda heavy (which i love). but i have to take it to the commercial wash, i will not spin properly in my washing machine...wayy too heavy when wet. Its always somethinglol keep it up lady!

I just bought the velvet yarn myself as well, a few tips for you. 1). Burn the end with a lighter before you start, it really helps. 2). Use a tight tension and a simple stitch.
