📖 - Video Description:
weekly maintenance on discus fish tank - how to have crystal clear water
In this video I will show you how I do the weekly maintenance of my discus fish tank...
This way you can have crystal clear water...
The way I do the maintenance I try not to mess too much with the parameters, nor with the ceramics that are in the filter.
What I do is clean as I show in the video once a week, usually on Saturday, and a 25% water change on Wednesday.
One Saturday I change the filter floss of fluval FX6 and the following Saturday I clean Seachem Tidal's sponges.
These days I always clean the glass, inside and out, with only aquarium water, I never use detergents...
On Wednesday I just do a simple water change.
This process takes me about 45 minutes, plus about 20 minutes on Wednesday, let's say it's 1 hour... per week...
Do you still complain that the water in your aquarium is not crystal clear?
What does it cost to spend 1 hour a week on this maintenance? 😅😜
I hope you enjoyed it and wanted to see more, and more, and more ... and your desire to subscribe and watch all my videos about discus fish, discus fish tank maintenance, nano tanks, aquascaping, discus fish treatments....
Thank you very much. ❤️

Hi Nick!!! I try to keep the aquarium as clean as possible for several reasons… first, for the water to remain obviously clean, which means that there is minimal organic matter to spoil the water. second, for the health of the fish… and of course, it looks better aesthetically.

Decided to watch this vid again aswell 👍😂 I have just taken delivery of my fx6 filter and it is a replacement for my old eheim which i got with my juwel 450 when I bought the tank but has sadly stopped working. However I have transferred all my cycled bio home ultimate media into it and am too running the eheim pre filter on it like u are. In addition to this I have the oase 850 thermo running alongside it with another eheim pre filter on that intake aswell so very rarely do i have to do maintainance on the canisters apart from changing filter floss in the fx6. I've had a major diatoms algae outbreak lately so have had to reduce my lighting and am running a jbl silicates remover in a mesh bag and it is working very well to return tank to health. My java ferns and anubias are becoming green again and starting to grow. Look forward to seeing your next video on your new wild discus set up. Take care my friend😎👍🙂🐬🐋🐠🐡

With those filters you have good filtering there. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The Pre filter really makes a lot of difference in maintenance. Are you satisfied with the oase? I have heard great things about it.

@@PSKaqua yes and no tbh lol. The oase is a great filter don't get me wrong with the integrated 400 watt heater to free up space in the main display. I do feel as though it possibly suffers from restricted flow In general and I will be modifying it to take a bigger diameter internal intake pipe as the one it comes with from factory is majorly under sized in my opinion 🙁 I'll be going with a solvent welded pvc pipe drilled with a load of holes into it to increase uptake and flow through the entire filter😁👍it does have massive media holding capacity in its huge baskets, maybe even more than the fx6, I have a combined 10kg of bio home ultimate, 5kg In each canister filter, even tho it suffers from the random purging of trapped air and bubbles randomly throughout the day which is a common complaint in the oase filters 😑🙄 however, this being said, it is a fantastic filter overall, but for sheer grunt and filtering, the fx6 wins everytime😍😜

@@jamesholmes2082 Yeah, I also think none can beat the FX6 yet. Although the oase comes with some good specs, in my opinion it lacks the power of the FX6. And even the heaters that come with it, don't match up with the literage they claim to do. For example, an oase 850 coming with a 400w heater, is more than half of what is recommended.

Some questions...what kind of siphon is that you are using with the bucket, any particular name? This siphon in particular is very informative to watch. You use a pre sediment and carbon filter. NO RO..reverse Osmosis basically which is used predominantly in discus tank when TDS levels are high. Some hobbyist has the definition that using RO water eliminates algae issues and problems. How do you preheat the water or maintain the same temperature of the water that enters the aquarium from the faucet?
@PSKaqua
@PSKaqua 11 ай бұрын
I bought the siphon on amazon, just search for a siphoner for aquarium water changes, it should come up. I don't use osmosis water, I don't think it's necessary. Before introducing the water into the aquarium, it goes through three 5-micron sediment filters and one activated carbon filter. The water comes out at aquarium temperature through the mixer on the tap. I set the tap to come out at about that temperature and I'm always watching.

Amazing video , to the point. I have some queries, 1. I see your filling water with RO filter , do you add something to remineralize it?because RO system strips off all minerals . 2. Would like to have links for siphon and magic faucet used. Thanks and like always amazing content.
@PSKaqua
@PSKaqua 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Osman!!! Thank you very much for the support. That system is not RO water. This one has only sediment and activated carbon filters. to be from RO it had to have a resin and a membrane. I bought the siphon a few years ago on eBay. the link to the store where I bought it is no longer active, but if you look for a waterbed filler you will find it.

Hello my friend! It's a flood sensor. It has some electrodes that in contact with water makes the device ring. I bought it on amazon.

It looks like the spout on the pre filter is super small, how many gallons per hour can it produce?
@PSKaqua
@PSKaqua 7 ай бұрын
Hello my friend!!! I assume you're talking about the pre-filter of the inflow filter. It's not very small, it seems, but the filter doesn't lose flow, or at least it's not visible. If it does, it's minimal. The filter is a fluval fx6 and theoretically does 3500 litres per hour.

Hello my friend!!! A box top filter can be used, of course. However, it should have the capacity to house a sufficient volume of biological mideas for the organic load produced by the fish.

Don't you know that it's not good to wash the filter sponch with tap water
@PSKaqua
@PSKaqua 2 жыл бұрын
Hello my friend!!! Why? The bacteria I want are in the biological mideas in the filter, I don't care about the ones in the sponges. The sponges are supposed to stay nice and clean, and for that I can't clean them properly in a bucket of aquarium water. I appreciate your concern, but I know what I'm doing, I haven't been at this for 2 days.

Hi Vivek!!! Thanks for your comment, however, I don't understand your comment.... I at no time washed the filter with tap water. What I washed was the sponge from the pre-filter, which was dirty. But on the sponges I don't worry at all about the biology it might have...
