It’s not drugs, earlier in the concert he started crying towards the end of Pink Triangle, and I guarantee he teared up during playing this, as you can hear unsteadiness in Rivers’ voice.
@dummytree4 жыл бұрын
One of the very few instances when you can hear Rivers sing out of tune to an extent and who can blame him!. He was litteraly choked up. At 6:35 I think he's on the verge of crying. That little sound he's exhaling I don't think was controlled/intentional.

Depressing describes this performance. Rivers was best friends with Mykel and Carli Allen. Them dying in a crash on the way to a show shows their devotion to the band, which eventually ended in a tragedy. Rivers Cuomo… we remember this…

I ordered one of those green Weezer hats from Mykel & Carli. They ran the fan club back in the day. They died in a car accident on the way to a weezer show in Salt Lake I believe. Still have that hat somewhere - I also ordered that raddest black long sleeve shirt with a red& yellow weezer W that striped across the front. Wish I still had that one cause I’ve never seen another one since & I bought it right after Pinkerton came out in 96. On the Pinkerton CD was an address you could send a SASE for a hand written lyric booklet that was really awesome and they also sent with it a tiny postcard sized black & white advertisement with different merchandise you could order by snail mail. Different times. Better times. Best Weezer

This song gets to me every single time. This is the first time I have ever heard it live, and it got to me even more, especially due to the circumstances in which it was played. I may be wrong, but Rivers seemed to have a look on his face as he walked up to the mic that made it even more painful.

@Fedae17 жыл бұрын
Mykel and Carli were two Weezer's friends and early supporters. They died in a car accident in '97, the two persons who talk at the very first part of the video are their parents. Since this video is from 1997 too, it could be the first time they played this song after Mykel and Carli's death

@heggy_696 жыл бұрын

@MasterOfKnowledge.4 жыл бұрын
@jdugmar Mykel and Carli were a bit less involved in the writing of the song than that. It was mostly Rivers' idea, as he originally wrote the song back in 1993 (which can be found on KZfaq, surprisingly enough) and he kept it a secret until it was finished. He called them off and on during the day he wrote it to ask them the high school they went to, their address, and a few other details, and when they asked him he wouldn't tell. Rivers and the rest of the band stressed to come to the show they first played it at in particular (though they usually went to all of their shows, anyhow, but obviously this one was pretty important). So it was moreso a surprise for both of them, and then a studio version was recorded for the Blue Album sometime later that year. However, none of them really liked any of the finished mixes, so the last one they did ended up on the Sweater Song single, like you had mentioned. Just a tad bit of trivia from a Weezer fan :)

Are you talking about the screaming at the very beginning? I would agree with that. But I was at this show, and I felt like, in general, we, the audience, were trying to be really supportive of the family and show them as much love as possible. I was wearing a homemade button in tribute to Mykel and Carli. It was an amazing night. Still one of the five best shows I've ever attended.
