Sadly, you're right. The steroid genie's been out of the bottle for over five decades, and it's not going back any time soon. So we can safely assume that everyone's using something, therefore the playing field is 'level' (in a way) and that the best lifters are still those who are training harder than everyone else with a tailored program that works for them.

Why would women at this level even use women's bars? Actually curious about this. Do they actually use them? I don't see any benefit for women using a 15Kg bar when you are at this level.
@XXLRebel

Oops already came up with the answer. The bar is thinner in circumference because women's hands are generally smaller of course.

You can see between the 230 and the 255 that the length of the sleeves increases - with 230 they barely fit the collars on the sides while with 255 you can clearly see they fit an extra 10kg plate AND collars WITH room to spare.

regarding the men vs women bar thing on the squats ... you can tell by the sleeve length (15kg is way shorter in the sleeve). It's definitely a 20 kilo bar. The plates/collar barely fit at 9:25 ; at 9:31 the sleeve is poking thru the collar.

I absolutely appreciate you showing limelife in the sport for women and the heavies. There just isn't enough exposure for women and heavies overall. I also appreciate the statement you made about drug use and just general rule manipulation that is made by the athletes. I believe that in order to play the game you have to play the game and if part of playing the game is to manipulate the rules to your advantage while the whole entire field in your sport is doing it, it is okay, especially if it is the general practice of those who are participating in the game.

So what you're saying is because someone cheats, everyone should be allowed to cheat? This isn't body building where they are on the stage looking like some freak lab experiment. Roids in weightlifting completely cheapens any sort of really impressive lift. Are these people still incredible athletes that devote their lives to it? Of course. But could they accomplish the lifts if they weren't taking whatever the hell they can sneak by the testing committee? No.
@smarti773
@smarti773 4 жыл бұрын
@@Spudawg I hope you get the opportunity to read this reply to your response. I am not saying the athletes cheat. They use the rules of the sport to their advantage, like the bar oscillation to the jerk as WH mentioned in the video. Also the athletes aren't on PEDs during competition. They cycle on during training and calculate when to come off for competition. Also what you mention about steroids is untrue, and also very prejudice towards body builders by the words you chose to use. Body builders work extremely hard to get the results they want and without them they look just as "freaks" as you say, they is an ifbb natural fed, I encourage you to see how they look. I also suggest you look at the numbers that ALL women athletes put up in group A. All the top 8 lifters and world records. And then compare them to CrossFit world athletes. CrossFit world level is an untested federation. They all juice. Particularly the women, however, can barely clean 130 at world level. We saw this during the 2019 games. Please, I encourage you to understand how cycling drugs on and off work, how PEDs work, before assuming what I mean, and calling those who work extremely hard as you say, freaks. Good luck
@Spudawg
@Spudawg 4 жыл бұрын
@@smarti773 Ok, so you aren't saying that they cheat, but I am. There's a reason steroids are banned and that they are always talked about in hushed tones. Because they know it's wrong and gives them an incredibly unfair advantage over those who don't use them. You are also comparing crossfit women who have to excel in MANY forms of lifting/endurance/strength and whatever else, and who clearly want to LOOK in shape, to this russian weight lifter who clearly does not care about aesthetics and only trains the lifts pertinent to olympic weightlifting. Of course people body builders work hard, but people underestimate just how much steroids help. Your body has a natural limit, steroids make that limit pretty much nonexistent. I really don't give a shit about steroids in body building, it's expected, that said it seems with all the weightlifters being busted for it, it almost seems like it's expected of them as well, which is a shame. We clearly don't agree, and won't be changing each others minds, but steroids give athletes an unfair advantage over people who don't use. That's not an opinion.

I have a question if anyone can answer. at 4:44 after the 65kg c&j they put on the 5, 2.5, and the collar. why not just put a 10 on either side? I've seen multiple athletes do this and I can't really figure out why
@WeightliftingHouse
@WeightliftingHouse 4 жыл бұрын
Because that is how it will look in a competition (not that she'd ever snatch that little). But it is the same with when she snatches 140kg, or when she clean and jerks 190kg. There won't be a green, just a 5kg, 2.5kg, and 2.5kg clips.
@hobit7585
@hobit7585 4 жыл бұрын
Might be the way she is used to add weights, aka using collars. On the other hand there might be another reason. In training at least where I train the bars and the collars are so used that they don't fit so we just use the plates which also hardly fit and they stay secured. But in the training hall of a competition all things are new and slide in or out effortlessly, in that case securing the plates with a collar sounds like a good idea, the slightest imbalance cab cause the disks to fall of otherwise.
@patrickkamerer7814
@patrickkamerer7814 4 жыл бұрын
In my opinion it's because they know they will go far further and just to don't change the big plates, so you would have to lift the bar up, they use the easier solution with the small plates, also the 2,5kg + collar choose because plates will stay in place and you don't have to watch and close the spaces between the plates. Competition simulation is more on target weights, which is not the case when you can handle it 6 times in a row, also not every lifter use this, it's a character thing.

She is the first woman weightlifter in my view is pushing herself to the max like men lifters. All other women lifters I’ve seen so far seem to play within 80% of their max conservatively

You really believe that women aren't training as hard as men? From what I've seen in training halls this is not the case. Women also handle higher work loads with a higher average intensity than men.
