“Weird” is truly the best thing a person can be. I’m so glad I’m not normal.

Weird Al's song, Dare to be Stupid, changed my life. I love his message and it made me think, "Hey, I could have the courage, to be weird."

Given the fact that Mark Mothersbaugh admitted enviably that Weird Al did Devo better than Devo, that says something.

I was lucky enough to be a stagehand who got show call for Nightmare Before Xmas live last year, and during intermissions Weird Al and Peewee came back and hung out with the orchestra on their break, right where we were standing by. It was so surreal to have this recurring eye contact with Al, and took everything I had not to jump up and give him a hug lol. What an example he is to all entertainers, that you can preserve your humanity and succeed in the biz... PLAY XMAS AT GROUND ZERO!!!

One of my favorite quote is the great Humanistic Psychologist, Abraham Maslow when talking about "normal". Abraham is quoted as saying, "What we call normal in Psychology is really the psychopathology of the average..." Essentially, we can do better than average or normal. Being normal is overrated. 🙂 Great video!!

I was 13 when I bought, with my allowance money, Weird Al’s “In 3D”record. I’m a better person for it today. So happy I grew up with his humor. ❤

I have just discovered this podcast, and I absolutely loved the idea and appreciated the talk about being weird. I teach kindergarten kids and I notice that this idea of misfit might start from a very early age. For example, the teachers usually praise the kids who coloured the painting ideally but the one who coloured the cow pink, is the one who might get laughed out. Obviously, I mean the situation in which the kid has no problems with identifying Colours etc. Sooo if this idea proceeds in the further years of education- we create this ideal vision of perfectness while rejecting the weirdness in us, because it is not something people appropriate. Just my thought 💭

Really big fan of Rainn and Al so this movie is going to blow my mind, lol. Thanks for this interview, I never knew the origin of the word “weird” was so weird.

I only viewed this episode today so I'm not sure if anyone will see my comment, but, when I was a young teenager ('70's) and was called weird, I immediately responded with a Gene Wilder/Marty Feldman facial expression and repeat what they had just said. Weird? Weird? I'm not weird and then spin my head around strangely. Cracked them up (usually bullies) and they left me alone after that.

I loved this. I wasn’t a weird Al fan back in the day but what a smart funny guy. Glad to have Ben exposed to him now.
