As someone who excelled in English in high school, I understand exactly what Weird Al is saying. I still have times where I'm reading something, and I can spot all of the misspelled words in a book. It drives me nuts.

Weird Al dose'nt get anywere near enough recognition for how talented he is. Hes on another level when it comes to parodies, and some artists have called him a straight up genius. His parody dare to be stupid was called a masterpiece by devo. Big shout to his band aswell. Hes apparently had the same band since he started.

I’m a grammar nerd and teacher so this is right up my alley! I didn’t even know Weird Al did this.

Just a quick note a lot of people aren't aware but Weird Al actually is a very intelligent man he is a member of Mensa and he he has a very high IQ. The fact that he uses music to entertain but yet also educate in a weird way. Like Word Crimes he's telling you how about conjugating and proper grammar and punctuation that kind of thing. If you were to take this in haven't played in front of junior high students in an English class A couple times they retain the information a lot better than just the teacher talking at them and the reason of that is because when people talk at you you're not as vested in the information. When you're in a conversation when it was given take you retain more information because there's something very that you find interesting because you are commenting back to the person who talking to you. So if you are one of those people who don't do well in classes that are mostly lectures and just being spoken at and have problems with test because that's what class is that could be a very good reason why. Some people have hard time learning vocally and need to have it more visual and then there are some people who need to hear and see so they're Visual and audio Learners. That's my brother he has to have both otherwise he gets things wrong or confused because he learns better when he sees what you're doing as well as telling him at the same time. Me I could do it either way either visual, audio, or both at the same time. Just thought and leave that quick little note thank you

Believe it or not, you weren't even wrong saying Yankovich. Let me explain: Yankovich is a pretty common surname in the countries of former Yugoslavia. In fact, the VAST majority of surnames there end with -vich, hence the origin. Now here's the tricky part: In Serbo/Croatian, the language mainly spoken in this territory, we use the letter Ć to denote the ch sound. And since English doesn't have that diacritic ( the little diagonal line above the C) it was changed to a C and therefore Yankovic. But you, my man, were not wrong at all. This just means that you've, possibly, heard several other surnames from this territory and remembered it as a pattern in your mind. :-D

English isn't even my first language and I am annoyed by a lot of errors made often by people from english speaking countries. The 'its vs it's' is prevalent. Also 'were vs we're' seems to be common. 'There and Their'... very annoying when those gets interchanged. And soooo many more...

I had an Emglish teacher who marked me hard. When I asked she said that I have talent and her hard msrking was to grow that talent. To this day I am grateful for the tougher grades she made me work form. She actually kept one of my book reports as an "example" of a well-made one.

I'm not going to lie. As a straight A student in Reading, Writing, and English, it bothers me. But, I never say anything about it, unless the person is trying to correct someone else, but screws up too. I feel like, if you're going to criticize someone for spelling, capitalization, etc... then yours better be immaculate!

My 6th grade English teacher asked what was served for lunch in the cafateria. Everyone but me, said TUNA FISH and she dropped a book on the floor and wrote -in all caps on the chalk board 1 word: REDUNDANT. I knew, after that, I will swim or die!

I'm probably guilty of some of these. Even though I've known English since I was barely able to read, there are still things that I have issues with. For example, 'who' vs 'whom' tripped me up for the longest time, and using commas correctly is *still* something I have issues with, as it seems to differ, depending on which source I ask. Still, that all pales compared to how people write nowadays. "You should NEVER write words using numbers, unless you're 7, or your name is Prince." I love that line. Al never was happy that Prince kept turning him down when he wanted to parody one of his songs. It's probably one of Al's more vicious jabs at a fellow artist. I would love to see more people react to "Dare To be Stupid". It's my favorite song by Weird Al, the music video is hilarious, yet it gets so little attention, presumably because it's not as popular as all his other songs.

This is, by far, my favorite Weird Al song! People that know me constantly roll their eyes or, sometimes outright call me a grammar Nazi, lol! Words have meanings! One of my pet peeves is when some tragedy happens and people say it was "decimated"! I say "Oh! What a relief! It could have been ANNIHILATED"! (Decimated means to reduce by one-tenth.)

I like that he brought up the misuse of the word “literally” in this song as that has long been a pet peeve of mine. One time I mentioned that someone couldn’t literally be drowning on evidence unless the evidence was a liquid that could enter the accused’s lungs! Then one smart guy chimed in and said “It’s called a figure of speech!” 😖 Oh good grief it hurts! So of course I couldn’t leave that be so I responded,- Oy vey! You can’t use the word “literally” in a figure of speech! That is literally what the word “literally” means!

I think spellcheck actually underlines more correctly spelled words than incorrect ones for me, especially here on KZfaq. Tell me: if Google owns KZfaq, why is KZfaq’s spellcheck unable to correctly spell words that Google can provide definitions for?

I have always liked spelling and proper grammar. Back in 2000 when the internet really started taking off, I would spend some time at my friend's house and use her internet (it was dial up back then). I used to complain to her that the spelling was horrible. She told me that I might as well don't even try to correct the spelling and grammar because the internet has their own way of spelling things. I guess she was right

That was REALLY GOOD!! I had diagrams ALL THE TIME!!! NO ONE REMEMBERS THEM!!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM? The prepositional phrases were below the main sentence and we took the noun at a diagonal on top and the verb, etc. I was pretty good with them and they disappeared one day forever!

My nurse manager at the VA was a LOUSY writer. It was nearly impossible for me and others to respect her as our manager primarily for this reason. Some people are blessed with intelligence in multiple areas, some aren't. I'll be the first to admit, there are many grammar errors that bother me (loose or looser instead of lose or loser is probably top of that list). However, there are people who are artists, musicians, mathematicians, etc. that struggle with spelling and/or grammar. I love this song because I relate to it, but I don't judge anyone based on their spelling and grammar. I would prefer to not be judged on my singing, painting or ability to play an instrument, therefore, why would I judge another based on their grammar? (I can't lie, I used to, many years ago. As you get older you take yourself less seriously, hopefully, and with that comes an appreciate for different types of intelligence. Hopefully.)
