I thought the same thing, lol. I can't believe they took those off the market while we still have bowling balls, sharp pointy small darts, skateboards, football, hockey, etc. It's really easy not to hit or get hit by a dart while playing. Makes me wonder if there was an economic/ political agenda behind the ban.
@tylercoon1791
@tylercoon1791 Ай бұрын
@@0therun1t21 it’s likely because with bowling and darts, you’re supposed to throw them at inanimate objects, and with hockey, you’re supposed to use a decent amount of padding. Lawn Darts, however, were advertised with kids throwing them at each other. And that’s kinda bad with sharp, pointy, large objects

Fun fact this concept was used heavily by the US during Vietnam. They made 2.75inch FFAR rockets that held between 1200-3000 flechettes (this is a direct quote from the declassified document) “the rocket holding enough nails to build a country style house with garage”. They were used to pepper the VC and NVA that were hiding underneath the treetops when the explosive warheads would just hit the treetops and explode leaving the enemy below unharmed. They also made a 155mm shell version for artillery and a tank shell version, these were called “beehive shells” that could up to 12000 flechettes. It is one of the coolest weapons you can go look up.

The word ‘flechette’ comes from the French word ‘fléchette’ not the Italian word ‘freccete’, though i fully understand the confusion as they sound and are written similarly and both just mean ‘dart’. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flechette it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freccette en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darts

Really simple and effective weapon. Dropped in great numbers from a great height the kinetic energy would prove fatal and I would design them to make a horrific screaming sound as they fall to strike fear into the enemy.

We need to get this as a game similar to balloons tower defense. Some sort of bolstering and attacking trenches, with increasingly powerful towers.

Flechetts also seem to be an excellent projectile to launch horizontally as well. Especially from something like a shotgun or a minigun.

Fischette’s are still used. They go through Kevlar body armour and break up in to little pieces in the body. A horrifying weapon to deal with on a medical basis as you can’t see where it went in but the internal damage is extensive.

It's better than getting hit with an explosive shell that has thousands of metal darts in it. And if I'm not mistaken it's the improved version of this it's a ordinance shell that can be fired by tanks or mortars and it's filled with metal darts so when it explodes on impact it releases thousands of metal darts that just pin the area and anything around it.

Fun fact, there was a weapon being developed that was basically this concept but huge very very heavy metal beams dropped from space. It was called Project Thor or something like that. And it was a pure kinetic weapon. Just very dense and heavy dropped from space. Telephone pole sized Tungsten rods. Apparently even though there wasn’t any explosives, it still could create an explosion like shockwave. Just like meteor striking the earth, they’re not necessarily made of explosives lol but I don’t the exact science, I just know it was a real thing but was far to expensive to be practical. But it was the same kind of blast a MOAB had.
