A lot of times people think sitting on top of sealed products is a guaranteed way to fast money especially in TCGs. But I wanted to make this video to talk about how in Weiss Schwarz Specifically that it doesnt work that way and before you spend thousands buying these boxes and cases thinking its free money and free tendies as an investment, I want you to think about both the pros and the cons of buying sealed products.

Old video but I appreciate the viewpoint. I know sealed cases often hold a premium, but I think if I were to buy a case, I would crack the case open straight away to make sure its all good, then down the road when I sell, just make note that the boxes are from an untouched sealed case that I personally cracked. Having a very good reputation on ebay helps a lot for this though and I wouldn't recommend that if people haven't built up that reputation yet. Seeded hit rates do seem to be a little bit of a deterrent for me though. I much prefer the randomness of english Pokemon.

Yea I think I'll do an updated 2024 version, for the most part I feel like it holds true for most casual collectors they should avoid most sealed since they have zero clue as to what is resealed or fake lol ( like fake boxes in pokemon haha )

@@peanutbutterpandapuffs you do highlight some good points, but if you do make a new update, i think there's a lot of certain nuances and things that weren't discussed about the issues with case searching in weiss. i think the main issue is not so much that cases are being resealed and replaced with dud boxes, but more that a lot of retailers and resellers are selling boxes from searched cases, so boxes being sold are either completely dead or have a reduced chance of getting a hit. resealed cases is not an issue ive really seen. and as a retailer for weiss products that only sells sealed weiss (we don't sell any singles/playsets/etc on any platform or locally etc), there are times when i had to open a case due to my distributor leaving an invoice in the case instead of on the outside of the carton or other various reasons. however, the contents are never altered by us, and no customer has ever had an issue if we ever did have to open their case for some reason. but that's besides the point. really, you should not be 'investing' in any sealed weiss schwarz period. not loose boxes. not sealed cases, and its not because it could be resealed or replaced with dead boxes, but simply because liquidating weiss schwarz cases post-release is incredibly difficult and it carries high risk with very little potential ROI. And in a best case scenario, if there is a set that appreciates over time, because of the fact that there is so little trust in loose boxes for weiss schwarz, you almost have to sell by the case. You don't have the option to really sell by the box. So, finding buyers willing to pay $2000+ when you paid $950-$1000 is going to be incredibly difficult and will essentially not bring in a lot of return. So, liquidating weiss even when its a set that appreciates over time is just difficult to find because not many people are willing to drop that much money at once, and you dont have the option to sell by the box like you would with a game like Pokemon. It's simply not worth the risk considering how poorly most sealed weiss sets perform in value post-release with many never really recovering, or at best, maybe recovering around the price pre-release. with rare cases exceeding pre-release prices. then if you depend on marketplaces like ebay/tcgplayer, you need to consider the fees that will eat into your margins as well.

I'm glad it helped ! Honestly in my personal opinion do NOT recommend anyone trying to sit on sealed Weiss like its MTG or Pokemon, or sealed products in general. Series in general are just way too niche and the demand for it is NOT that high. It's very veyr slow to even move ONE booster box , forget about moving like one whole case years down the line, in general its just a niche built upon a niche so unless people are megafans of these series, its a hard pass for sure

If the SSPs and SPs are the only thing that have value while the rest of the content is worthless, then people should just collect the SSP/SP cards not the sealed box.

I wouldnt called the other stuff worthless since after the set releases it becomes harder to get the RRs and Rs to make decks which makes those singles 10-20 bucks sometimes. But definitely for most collectors they should not chase the sealed boxes lol. I just cringe everytime I see people try to pump sets like bunny girl and then now you see all the cards like the albedos all dropping down

Just bought 4 boxes of Madoka Magica: Rebellion booster, sealed. I wanted to buy them just to get the play-set for english, but I was a bit stupid, and didn't realize they were from the japanese print. Not sure if I should open them, or sell them myself (strongly considering this since I got them at a really nice discount)

My personal opinion its kinda rough to sell japanese boxes tbh. I would try to never buy japanese sets unless youre really into it and collecting. Like for example I have like a sealed evangelion box as well as Psyhopass boxes but it would probably be a pain to sell for a "good price". But yea a lot of factors go into it, depends how much you want to open them, also how cheap they are , as well as what was the last time it was sold and for what price. And then go from there !
@yapy326
@yapy326 Жыл бұрын
@@peanutbutterpandapuffs Thanks for the advice! I agree, I'm realizing just how much of a mistake I made not reading the listing enough to realize it was Japanese. I had already negotiated a good price, but when I explained the issue to the seller, he was very understanding. He had already purchased the shipping label, so could not cancel the order, but refunded me the price of one of the boxes (he was desperate to sell them and other things, as he is moving and can't keep it all). Essentially, I think I can get a decent return on the boxes, even by selling them for less than retail price, the huge issue is just finding someone who is interested in buying them, someone who appreciates Madoka Magica as much as I do. That is why I'm almost considering just opening the boxes, as I do love the series, and if I can't sell them as is and have to keep them, I would appreciate them much more for the cards on the inside than for the sealed box. Also cool that you have the Eva cards! That is one of the series I really wish was also released for English.

Yea I would say one thing to keep in mind with tcgs always is . If you look at sold histories . You will realize that just because something is priced at a certain price , doesn’t necessarily ever mean someone is willing to buy it xD it’s okay . We all learn these lessons at some point , at least it was a cheap lesson !

Yea, I just feel people don’t think about how with Weiss is just really risky, there’s really no sure way to tell if a case was opened prior and the guaranteed pull rates on the boxes with SPs ruins buying these long term especially to sell. Because it pretty much forces people to buy cases rather than single boxes, which is way too high of a buy in for most people.
@wolfsong5356
@wolfsong5356 2 жыл бұрын
@@peanutbutterpandapuffs I think people still buy the single boxes but came to an idea that there SSP/SP pull is pretty low. I seen it at FB people buy a box and get a hit. As for people that buy cases they want to try and maximize there chance these are the people that cares about pulling SSP/SP the most.

This is a very bad argument, because: - How do you know the case wasn't tampered with? Open the case. - How do you know the box wasn't tampered with? Open the box. - How do you know the packs weren't tampered with? Open the packs. Suddenly, you can never hold any sealed product. Yet, people DO hold sealed product, and it's often extremely profitable.

It's really not that hard to find a trustworthy seller either. Loose boxes can cause problems but I've done well buying cases. Also tampering with a case is risky anyway. What if you pull a $300 SP but didn't pull it until 10 boxes in so you have to replace $600+ worth of boxes. I can see people selling their dud single boxes but can't really see it with the cases. Also you get a load of playmats with a sealed case which can go for $50-100 each if you let them sit for a few years which is an excellent bonus.

Depends on a lot of factors . If budget isn’t an issue and you want to just have fun opening the packs then yea you can buy sealed . But if your concern is getting all the rare cards and you’d be mad or upset if you bought a lot of boxes and got nothing , then always single out the cards . You will almost always never get what you “want” opening sealed . Buying singles will always guarantee to be cheaper and you’d be less upset 😂. My rule is probably for most people to buy a few boxes for fun, single out the rest

I don't think this issue is unique with Weiss, since I do know other games where commons and such don't have any particular utility. But I say a lot of the playable versions of a deck using largely using a fraction of the r's and most of the rr's, and the commons basically having no use whatsoever, hurts. Not to mention that utility is heavily influenced by whether or not a series gets future sets. Combined with the low tournament scene and high amount of collectors heavily pushes value into SPs. And the more the set gets ripped open by collectors, and less future potential or standalone potential it has, the worse RR and below values get hurt. SAO vol 2 is the perfect example The FGO camelot set more or largely neglected the utility of the FGO babylonia set due to the trait lock. For collecting high end Weiss, it is definitely a rich man's hobby
@peanutbutterpandapuffs
@peanutbutterpandapuffs 2 жыл бұрын
For sure ! A lot of the problems I listed is probably not unique to weiss , overall in the TCG collecting hobby, I just felt like it needed to be said for a lot of new collectors or people that are new to the hobby to just watch out for all the things I've said. Most people are just not built for the collectibles hobby period and end up regretting their purchases/"investments", all the bad advice on how to invest in collectibles is just way too rampant out there without giving a lot of new people to these hobbies the inherent flaws in the investing in a lot of collectibles categories. I would probably go as far as to say that a high percentage of people who enter the hobby purely for money probably end up dumping the hobby within a year and regret their purchases, especially those who pick it up on a whim and go after all the "expensive stuff" right away.

Its a tough problem to tackle to be honest because if youre someone that can afford to buy a case, the guaranteed rates are a positive and makes it worth it. The problem is what the majority of regular folks who CANT afford to buy cases and have to play russian roulette. Its hard problem to tackle because people would be upset if any changes were made, which is very understandable. I think it wouldn't even be a talking point if "stonks" isnt such a big thing in the market when everyone is chasing the "money" in each set. I'd have to think really hard to come up with some sort of solution to even suggest lol completely removing set rates I think would suck for people that want to chase SPs though as much as I feel the system is flawed lol

@@peanutbutterpandapuffs i mean look at pokemon clearly a successful tcg and tons of collectors in it. almost random pull rates. if there was a better time to do it for weiss it would certainly be now and not when it grows bigger. I think thats a very big thing I want people to realize that its a very big misconception for new collectors to the TCG hobby to think theres value in boxes and "gambling" on the fact that there could be a chance to make money. EV (expected value) is always lower than the box itself, its because people are manipulating and scamming new collectors in the weiss schwarz market that EV of a Case is greater than the actual case itself ( which has changed after the market has died down a bit and more and more people are getting aware now ). But yes I do not recommend ANYONE to even invest in tcgs for a long term whether buying or opening, unless its for fun or personal collection OR if they have money they are not afraid of losing
