I recently watched the Welcome Home Franklin special and went down a rabbit hole. I am a writer and artist and I love discovering new authentic stories in the creative space. Franklin is not a very well known or regarded Peanuts character but I feel like this special really catapulted him front and center in the public eye and gave him a great introduction to a wider audience.

It was impossible to make this video the way I wanted without getting a copyright claim. I would have to butcher it 15 different ways to bypass copyright so make sure you enjoy it 😄 EDIT If you are new to my channel, I have a running theme of commentary on how to incorporate good practices when making inclusive content and I have spicy takes from time to time which some may find jarring.

Very much did (I watched it twice! although it might only count as once if most of my youtube is on 2x speed). It's nice to see more good examples of unforced diversity. Think I'll look up this Armstrong fella.

I'm so glad that they did a movie centered around Franklin instead of it being centered around just Charlie Brown, I'm really excited to watch it with my son.

With that chair scene, I just assumed they ran out of chairs. As someone who never watched Peanuts, it was great hearing the history of Franklin.

Yeah it appears the optics of it were much worse than what was actually happening.

I loved this. excellent video. I am 56, so peanuts were the popular thing when I was growing up. I loved Charlie Brown and the gang. I watched all the specials with excitement. I think peanuts is such a brilliant comic. it was great for me as a child, because I was not a traditional sports loving little boy. I hated sports. and I love the emphasis peanuts had on the emotional lives of the characters, and also how resourceful they were. it was refreshing to have the popular cartoon of the day interested on feelings, and intelligence, and not on blowing things up or fighting some imagined alien or villain. it was a comic strip about life. and I was right there for it. I still am. thanks for posting. I have liked and subscribed.

Thank you so much. Glad I did it justice. I'm always really interested (and sometimes worried) about what the big fans of these properties think about my perspective so I'm glad it resonated with you. It's a great property that really respects its audience. Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard.

I love the Peanuts franchise. But your video's title claims to be about why you don't like Miles Morales, but instead, it's about why you love Franklin. That's rather deceptive and disappointing. I still watched the video and enjoyed what was said about Peanuts, Rob, and Franklin. But you should've just made a Franklin appreciation video and titled it honestly.

Didn't even realize that. Very confused as to what Franklin did vs miles

I hear you. From my perspective with the channel, I'm kind of telling a continuous story which I sometimes forget new viewers will find jarring. I initially critiqued the reasons for the creation of Miles Morales and created a running theme of commentary around how to better approach inclusivity in media. So the impetus to make this video was guided by that train of thought. It was kind of the thesis for the video. I also like to put twists in my narratives to make it interesting. But I completely appreciate what you're saying.

Thanks for this. When I saw they made this I assumed it was going to be a product of modern day writing. I didn’t know the history behind Franklin either. I will take a look.

So what does any of this have to do with Miles Morales? Is the suggestion that he hijacked Spiderman without creating his own story and should have just been an entirely different superhero like Static Shock? Spiderman came out in the 60s, but there have been other versions of Spiderman since the introduction of his clone Ben Reilly in 1975. Spider-Woman was introduced in 1977. I mean, seriously, the pig version of Spiderman, Peter Porker, came out in 1983. By the time Miles came along in 2011, alternate Spiderpeople had already been a thing, literally for generations. And if you can seriously watch Into the Spiderverse and say that Miles had no authenticity or genuine Afro-Latino-American identity without having it be his sole defining characteristic, then you and I did not watch the same movie.

I hear you. I've previously made videos building on how to approach representation in media so if this is the first video of mine you see, it will look odd. That was an oversite on my part. I have generally been critical of the Spiderverse as a whole and duplication of characters because it waters them down but if you come in without that context in totality, you will understandably find it strange. If you watch my other videos on Spider-Man and how to create characters, you may not agree, but you will understand my approach to this video.

Thank you! Yeah, I sometimes assume people have seen my previous videos cause this has been a running theme. I'll be clearer next time I make a narrative that builds from my past videos. I've done a few videos on the topic of creating new characters, hope you'll check them out.
