OMG. Far Rockaway Queens. 15th Street handball courts that was our beach. That is one of the best hoods ever in the Queens New York. You take the boulevard all the way straight down you come into halfway to Brooklyn. Great video you just made my day of giving me flashbacks of when I was a young lad growing up in Far Rockaway Queens. 15th Street beach handball courts with the place to be back in 1980 to 1999

@MishaElRusito 3 жыл бұрын
@@rehyeambrown8565 I don't think the word "strong" is a good compliment for a woman. Because the "strong" women HAD to become strong as a response to the not so good environment they grew up in (here talking about not having a loving family, not the hood). I think a compliment about her being able to stay feminine, smart, loving, caring (keeping all the feminine qualities) despite having to be "strong" is a much better compliment. The other girl too.

I'm from Brooklyn, and being a NYC native I can tell you this. There are some places in NYC that are their own bubbles; their own ecosystems. Regardless of which borough these places are in, they operate as rogue communities and really insular. Far Rockaway is one of those places. It's in Queens, yes, but it's so isolated from the rest of the city that it is almost it's own borough. Really different vibe and atmosphere from the rest of Queens and NYC overall. Other places in NYC like this are: -Coney Island (Brooklyn) -LeFrak City (Queens): This one is tricky because it's not on the outskirts of the borough, but LeFrak was almost a self-contained community. Drs offices, grocery stores, etc... made it so that people didn't even really have to leave the complex. -Harlem (Manhattan): It really has little to no relation to the rest of Manhattan. Saying you're from Manhattan and saying you're from Harlem are almost like saying two completely different things -Red Hook (Brooklyn) -The Hole in East New York (Brooklyn) -Coop City (The Bronx)

Accurate! Also, Rochdale Village in Jamaica, Queens it’s a Mitchell Llama Co op. It’s similar to Co op City and Lefrak city . It had everything, including a Power Plant and Long Island railroad station! When the city is in black out, we had lights! #qgtm

This young Queen did a Great job showing Far Rockaway. I was born and raised there. She really pointed out things I really didn't think a young Queen her her age would know. She hit on the PAL, the library, Wavecrest (My brothers lived there) and the truth about the hospital situation. Yesssss, the bungalows.... that is the truth, (I remember the old one's)how does she know. I grew up there and I am almost 60. She really knows Rockaway. My children went to PS 106 too!! I love that beach and feeding the seaguls.... I lived on 19th Street as an adult. I probably know her family. I am sure. Rockaway was an amazing place to grow up. It is so different now. I just retired as a Special Ed teacher in NYC........... Great Job!! I loved it..... and she only touched on one side of the Beach.... Wonderful!! That was a lot of walking......... That was too quick.... I wish the video were longer.

My family and I came from Russia to the US in '92 and I grew up in Far Rockaway from 9yrs old until end of high school (went to Beach Channel HS). Had a great childhood there, always on the courts playing ball with friends from all over. Great summers, beach life, the up and down rollercoaster of growing up. It was a very important part of my life and taught me a lot about how to get along with people of all sorts, and not just being isolated to one group or set of ideas, something that many in the local Russian community wanted to have my mom worry about. People told her to send me to a Jewish school on Long Island because it was "safer", but my mom felt it would be more valuable for me socially to be exposed to a full range of differences instead. She was absolutely correct. I was always surrounded by lots of diversity and different cultures and found great friendships and experiences in all of it. Will always have a place in my heart and great memories of Far Rockaway. Great video! Thank you!

Right by the boardwalk and used to sell food and have a good time. I loved your video and I share your enthusiasm and love for Far Rockaway, even though I have moved-on. I was born 70 years ago at the Rockaway Beach Hospital and baptized at St. Gertrude's RC Church on Beach 38th Street . We lived on Beach 43rd St in Edgemere then moved to Dickens St in Bayswater. I moved to Wavecrest Gardens in 1972 when I married. Just like you, my first school was PS 106 (I recall it had a lot more trees and plantings surrounding the premises). I'm glad it still survives. Just like you, I too got my first library card from the library located at Mott Ave & Central Ave (Beach 20th St) probably around 1957. At that time the library was a beautiful, ivy-covered brick and stone architectural gem. It was one of many [Andrew] Carnegie philanthropic financed libraries in NYC and around the U.S. Sadly the building and all the books contained within it were destroyed by fire in 1962. Unfortunately it was replaced by an uninspired structure that is thankfully, as you happily explained, being replaced by a real modern library. I share your joy! I look forward to viewing your future projects. Hopefully more about Far Rockaway :)

This video and her story brought me to tears fr. I’m from corona queens, had a similar family structure as hers, just more toxic and codependent but my family moved to jersey during the pandemic where I was for a year + and I wasn’t rocking widdit so I saved and moved myself to Bushwick. Its like diff roomates, everything isn’t as close together, just not the same. So gentrified and these people lack the etiquette that I’m used to but this is my journey. As a young queen in this I hope my spirit stays as steady and strong as hers❤️

My daughter also spent her summers in NY and I would always be sure she brought NY snacks back to Georgia. LOL! Yaaaas, on the Bodega deli... best food for your money.
