Why am I here, why am I watching this....6 years in the army, 2 deployments, and Spin Boldak was my last, job of running the comms, and then help with tear down as the FOB was shut down. I miss it, I was there in 2014. Being a civilian sucks, anyone else want to be down range again?

Spent about 2 months here in 2004. Also there was the French Special Forces guys, they were bad ass. Good time when nothing was there.

thank you for sharing this video, while I am sure some things have changed in five months, this still relieves me (this is my first time dealing with a deployment and I have to admit I've been very anxious)...call it ignorant or what ever you want, while it may not be "safe", I feel much better being able to see where, and for the most part, how my husband is living

Wow, this is going to be a much more cush deployment (at least from a FOB amenities standpoint) than my last one (COP Margah).

I love how they make this appear to be a vacation. 20 hour days, showers? sometimes. Butthole requests from higher? Always.

WHEN I WAS THERE........... We didn’t even have a paved road and our CO Alexander the Great made us build an OP on top of a hill. Mf made us march full kit from Europe to Asia.

That is too funny, I was there when they were putting in the american portion of the base. That was back in the days with the outdoor gym and showers. We had the locals serving us really great food. We had cats to kill the vipers and the Lithuanians to bring us beer and schnapps. Good times.

When I was there in 2013 there were more us civilians than military. Not really sure what they did but there was a lot of them. In a briefing when we got there they said to stay away from them. There was even a civilian fire department there, talk about good money. It is really kush there btw, midnight chow anybody?

It took 40 years to make Afghanistan what it was it's going to take twice as long to get it back from where it is and when I got to give up another military base is in a country that we've been wanting bases in for a long time military logistics for long-range aircraft as surveillance in that area for 60 years

@whatswrongwiddya well i am combat arms and we ran out of this fob. route clearance to be precise. from my platoon we had 2 kia and 4 purple hearts while operating out of here. thats aside from all the other dets that we took, not to mention firefights, indirect fire and rpg fire. so what if the fob is set up nice? also right on the pakistan border so its not like the taliban travel there much. try to do some research before you stick your foot in your mouth and disrespect fallen soldiers

please dont try to make it seem like all, or even most troops, live like this, THis place is obvoiusly some kind of head quaters unit for officers, the fighting troops the combat troops are not living this way. Im sure the're in the heat eating 2 MREs per day and shitting in ahole they dug in the sand. so please paint a realistic picture, I served 11 years Army combat arms I know damn well this is not the real deal. Hell, peace time training missions were not luxury, get real man !!!
