The song Mayak (Lighthouse) was by Ukrainian band "The Hardkiss": the lead singer Julia Sanina is one of the Eurovision hosts this year, and the guitar player is her husband Val Bebko (co-founder, co-songwriter (with Julia) of "The Hardkiss", and multi-instrumentalist). This band is fantastic and has such brilliant music videos, which are very creative and different from each other in style. Highly recommended to enjoy! :)

100 % agree!! They are 🔥🔥🔥 As from a person, who loves The Beatles, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Guns n 🌹🌹s and others! Higly recommend to listen to The Hardkiss. Songs like "Кобра", "Маяк", "Makeup", "In love" and others. Pure joy!!

I’m from Liverpool and I reacted a bit like that kid 😂 - I was in work but watched the announcement and actually screamed out loud. This has been the most fantastic week of my life I’ve had a holiday in my home city and met people from everywhere and it’s been beautiful. I also went to semi final 1 preview and saw this performance! Liverpool is the greatest (I am biased) ❤

The video that children and ordinary people in Liverpool are participating, as well as the King of the United Kingdom, made me just cry and pride that Ukraine is Britain together! and the most superb opening of Eurovision 2023 is simply amazing with HARDKISS!

The first part with kids is 'together in Electric Dreams' from the movie 'Electric Deams' (1984) by Giorgio Moroder. The 'Rock' part is 'Mayak' by the ukrainian band 'The Hardkiss'.

The boy and the girl were symbolic of Britain and Ukraine working together “no matter where I go, I’ll never find a better prize….. although you’re miles and miles away I see you every day…”. Notice the girl wrote “Welcome to Liverpool” in English and Ukrainian on the whiteboard. I read somewhere that the girl actually has an English mother and Ukrainian father. Yes, that was Paul O’Grady in the clip. RIP.

Amazing Opening. Better than some Grand final in last years... Emotional ans powerfull. Great job HARDKISS and Julia Slanina. Mayak ( LIGHTHOUSE) IS one of lasy fresh singles of HARDKISS. POWERFULL... ❤❤❤❤❤ Ps . Julia is brillant esc 2023. I hear about Hardkiss before but now? I love. I am listem all songs from Hardkiss and amazing and beautiful Julia Sanina ❤ Oh that guitar... For me that was one of the Best opening eurovision in history. And...that was only first semi...But such powerfull... For me will be iconic , ever

Thank you so much! For the video from Eurovision, with love from Ukraine 💙💛 P.S I was under Russian occupation during the 5 months, it's was hell. My father and grandma stay under Russian occupation,I have two friends from Mariupol: one stay alive but he was under Russian price, he is going to Germany with his family, second friend we can't find.

The message is even more precise if you understand the ukrainian lyrics of this song. In the dark sea we are not alone At arm's length The sky lights are with us Lighthouses Lighthouses In the wild storm we are not alone At arm's length Every sea has it's Lighthouses Lighthouses They symbolize Britain's support. As does the boy (Britain) that brings the girl (Ukraine) to his side.

Thanks for reacting. Actually, the song is about getting help from others when you are going through the darkness and storms. We appreciate a lot the help and assistance from UK and other countries which we get during the unprecedented existential challenge that Ukrainians are going through now. 🇺🇦❤🇺🇦
