Welcome to The Last Homely .... GARDEN!
Many times people from TLHH channel ask me what I am doing in my garden. I have been thinking of launching this channel for a while now as I am so excited about the many projects I am doing in the garden this year.
I couldn't do any of the without the help from Adam and Arran and the team at Heritage Country Gardening who are not only the muscle in the garden, but have imagination and creativity as well.
This is a big garden with many problem areas, but together we are going to make some really interesting areas this year.
I hope you enjoy this new content. Anna and I will continue making the content you love over at The Last Homely House because MAKING is my real passion but I am interested in so many things and here is where I can share all my outdoor activities!
On Patreon, people enjoy my Monthly Diaries and Weekly Behind The Scenes vlogs plus all sorts of other content. Find out more here
/ thelasthomelyhouse
I use music from Epidemic Sound, a subscription service with thousands of royalty free music tracks. Todays is called 'It's A Wonder'
and it really is! A garden is a wonderful thing!
Thank you for watching. Be my first subscriber to this brand new channel. And this is one time when clicking the notifications bell is really important because I will be posting now and then and not to a regular schedule.
I'll see you next time with Something Else!
Thank you!
Love
Kate

Thank you for this new video and your new project. I live in the Pacific Northwest in Sequim, Washington. I lived in England until I was 19. Moved to Sequim in 2003. I love to garden but we have very dry weather in this area and watering gets very expensive. The weather fronts from the west and northwest are blocked by the Olympic Mountains. This area is called the Blue Hole because the skies above us can be blue when the surrounding areas are all grey from the clouds. I am learning to quilt and find your videos on this subject very helpful and informative. Last week I learned a bit about paper piecing and hope to master this. I find The Last Homey House and now, The Last Homey Garden, very relaxing. It is wonderful handling beautiful fabric and beautiful soil!!! My cat behaves like your cats - wants to be right in the middle of the action. Thanks for everything you do and for all your videos.

I had the privilege of growing up in a place where some families dedicated every square inch of their garden to growing food! These were often otherworldly places! My favorite spot was often the space under the grape vine! There was usually a grape vine! For your children to have grown up there and for Agnes to explore now, what joy!

I just finished working in my garden here in New Hampshire USA, poured myself some blueberry lemonade because it is 78 degrees F., subscribed to and will thoroughly enjoy this new channel! My grandfather, his dad, was a bee keeper so I love when you show us your bees! I share this quote which is special to me “to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow”. Gardening like quilting is good for our mental health, so now I will go sew hexies for more relaxation🪡🧵🐝 until next time, cheers😊

Many thanks for inviting us into your garden Kate. I love my garden here in Brisbane in the sub tropics. I’ve created a forrest of native trees right in the back of where I live. I’ve watched them all grow from seedlings to mature trees. The She oak tree has recently dropped a large branch bringing down some branches from the wattle tree. I have a macadamia tree, native mulberry, Davidson plum among several others. I also have some veggies growing in an old bathtub as well as a nice little vegetable and strawberry patch. The veggies are covered to keep them safe from insects and gangs of marauding possums. I live in public housing and I’m also aware of marauding gangs of developers moving the ‘houso’s’ out to gentrify my old suburb. I’m enjoying my garden while I can. Much love to everyone on the garden bench. Jen 💐🙋🏻‍♀️

Love your tea cosy. ❤ Miss Kate I have a solution for your deer problem. If your garden is fenced in, go inside the fence and string a rope up 4-6 feet from your fence around the inside of your garden. Deer do not have depth perception and will not jump your fence. Last year was the first time that we tried this and we did not have one deer get into our garden. We have small herds of deer and they eat everything we put in the ground, trees, flowers and shrubbery. I learned about this method from a homesteading family on KZfaq. Wishing you success.

Reserving my spot on the Lime Green Bath Seat 🙂 I live in town in a small house with a very small yard but still I grow lovely flowers and just one edible crop: tomatoes. I grow seedlings by simply squooshing one tomato and starting the seeds indoors. I always plant all the seeds, end up with about 70 seedlings - at least 4 times as many as I have room to plant outside! It always seems such a miracle to me that I get so much from doing so very little.

This was lovely Kate. I used to have a garden that was my “little oasis in a sea of weird”, but when I started having mobility problems I had a lovely couple who came once every two weeks to do the necessary. In the meantime, I did deadheading, some planting and weeding and battled the neighbourhood raccoon who had a real hate of my little solar fountain and used to drag it out of the pond every night and try and lose it in the garden…needless to say, I finally gave in and removed it. He was a chap who was not going to give up and I like my peace. (It was the most prudent move, but it still rankles a bit). When we moved from our house three years ago into a compact condo I felt some relief at not having to worry about the garden, but I still miss sitting and watching the bustle of all the garden inhabitants as the seasons progressed. So thank you for sharing your beautiful space with me. I shall enjoy it.

Love your new Channel Kate. This comment is a suggestion l have regarding your resident deer. It’s from Deb Kemp from Canada. She uses Irish Green Soap and it works for her. Cut the bars into 4 and hang along a fence or string line. She also grates it and leaves it on the ground to effectively deter moles. I hope you get to read this. You have created a wonderful community with the Lime Green Sofa. I’m from Australia, Deb is from Canada . You have created this wonderful sisterhood.

Lovely to see another avenue to be inspired by you. I’m a beginner quilter, with just a few under my belt, but you inspire me so very much. Hubby and I have found a hobby in which we both love and gardening is a wonderful thing to share. Since we are now both in the Autumn of life, raised gardens have been a wonderful addition. We are presently harvesting our very first English Peas and are so excited. So much to look forward to with both your channels.

I got on my sewing machine and made shrub covers from row cover . The deer were unable to gobble them up. I also cover a bed or row with the row cover . Love gardening! 🌻🐝🌞

I’ve recently started following your last homely house channel and now this one, double treat! I’m not an experienced gardener and have come from a small potted courtyard in the UK to having a fairly big piece of land surrounding our house in rural Portugal. We have olive trees and produce our own olive oil which is such a treat. I have the opposite problem to you in trying to keep everything irrigated,as the summers here in Central Portugal can be very hot! We love growing our own veggies though. Love watching you, it’s all very inspiring.

Wonderful introduction to your new channel and lovely tribute to your Dad. The aerial shots give us a greater understanding of space and location and "lushness". There's so much of interest, the birds, the Bees, the goose and deer. I really miss having a garden, so thanks for sharing yours with us.

I was searching for pictures to use in this video and got lost in a happy few minutes finding the right ones. I think Dad should have a regular spot in these videos - he was so important in my life! Yes - maybe I should have Richard's Corner ! something like that! Thank you Karin xxx

I don’t know if you’ve watched a channel called Living Traditions but they have a hen run that surrounds their hen pen. It’s actually made up of 2 fences about 3-4 ft apart on all around the four sides. The reason they built it double fenced is because they said deer would jump one fence but they won’t jump Two built close together because they don’t want to get stuck in between them. This might be something you would enjoy checking out.

A beautiful channel. Inspiring and full of advice. Thank you Kate. I felt at peace watching and seeing the wonderful scenery where you live. I haven't got a garden, many years ago I turned my concrete car port into a container garden. It has a few trees in pots, containers full of flowers and hanging baskets. A small brick wall and wrought iron fencing surround it. It has won many awards in the local local "In Bloom" competition.

This was so lovely I very nearly cried at the end of it and went right back to watch it again from the beginning. The end of the video coincided with finishing a row of hexagons in a quilt directly inspired by the one you made for Agnes. Thank you for the unending creativity you share!

Gardening is a little like waging war! For us: against the weeds; against the racoon; against the birds that steal our strawberries and red+blackcurrants; against the tomato plants that always declare tomatogeddon, regardless of how much we snip the back... Good luck comrade!

This is going to be fabulous Kate. It's interesting seeing others gardens and how different we all do things. I agree that we all sow too much , 'just in case'!!!

Oh Happy Day !! I do so love to see you in the garden my friend. I was missing it & honestly a little afraid that you were not being up to it somehow. What a refief that you are ok and going strong.... It wasn't quite Spring without having a bit of you in the Garden with your seeds and things. This is a lovely solution... thank you so much. I always get a lift of inspiration seeing what ever you are doing. Take care lovely friend.

I’m so glad that you have some help with garden! With a number of interests, it is hard to give each one the time to satisfy your wants and needs. You seem to manage all that. How grand!

My husband passed in January and I’m finding keeping up things on my own is a full time job! I could use a garden team. 🤔 I could use a good handyman too. I love this new channel and will happily wait for new videos because anything garden is lovely. TFS

Kate I love everything you do and can’t tell you how much you inspire me! I have found 3 wire things to make into beaded sun catchers! I have started planting seeds for planting outside in May. I have been making Christmas Stars and plan to make the Christmas tree ornament as well! I am a quilter and love watching everything you do! I can’t wait for your next video to come out. I’m still learning about how to find all your videos so I can watch them all in chronological order. I have watched you now for almost 5 years and I love you and Ans making your cabin!
