The Nichols Ride is equal parts short, scenic, brutal, and exhilarating. After a couple of miles of slow rolling through west Los Angeles, the competitive side of the ride kicks off when the light goes green at Hollywood Blvd.
From there riders climb up through the Hollywood Hills on Nichols Canyon Road with a quick and sharp detour on La Cuesta Drive to reach the top of the main climb at Mulholland Drive.
Once up top the terrain is rolling hills with great views out over of the valley. The constant up and down on Mulholland is easily as hard as the main climb with riders split into smaller groups having to take turns facing the wind. The 'finish line' for this part of the ride is just near the crest of the last climb.
After a regroup the ride heads back down to flatter ground on Sepulveda Boulevard.
Final three riders with me:
Joe (navy blue) @emmerlin
Taylor (green/white/blue) @taylorwdawson
Nico (white) @nicom8

Thank you for sharing this video. I'm 51 and bought my first road bike a few days ago. The video inspired me to ride hard. Not sure if I could keep up with you guys. I bought a specialized tarmac comp with ultega sti shifter, ultegra derailleur, continental gatorskins on Mavic Aksium Race 700. My cruising speed between 10-13 mph and top speed 34. I learned, I need to practice riding with a group after watching your video.

Thanks for this video, I hardly ever get to see what goes on at the front of a fast group ride. Missing the outdoor rides even more now, however after more than a month of zwifting and watching this has made me realize the serious risks we take out there on the roads.
@TheXtrafresh
@TheXtrafresh 4 жыл бұрын
They do ignore any and all traffic rules obviously, so don't take it as a moral or legal endorsement, but from a safety perspective: on the intersections they only go when sightlines are clear, and they do squeeze the brakes when they aren't. The camera adds a bit of drama to the passes and the proximity of the other riders.

Dude...thanks a bundle...I live in the DR and we've been in quarantine for over a month now...I compete as a master and didn't want to lose too much condition. I only use a trainer for a pre time trial warm up...but under our current pandemic condition I've no choice as to use it while confined to my home. I'm not into the Zwift, I'd rather use the trainer while watching real people ride real bikes on a real road if you know what I mean. Been watching some Asian videos but today I ran into yours while searching...and totally loved it! I rig my trainer in my living room right in front of my large tv screen and it was as being with you guys on the ride...really enjoyed it. Keep it up.

Great ride! saying hi from West Palm Beach Florida, we have one on Saturday morning with the difference that is all flat land and on occasions with a strong tail wind, it could get quite fast although is short, just 25 miles through Palm Beach Island. Great vid, keep them coming!
