In this Video I take you guys along the KUPEREKWA ceremony. You will see and learn on how it is done according to the Shona Culture. KUPEREKWA is when the grooms family welcomes the new bride into their family and some rituals are done according to the Shona Culture. The bride will now be officially recognized as part of the family. Her aunts and sisters accompany her and hands her over to her husband’s family. Then grooms family celebrates their muroora and they shower her with gifts and money. The Muroora also performs her Makoti duties and serve her husband’s family.

Kupereka means the same in Swahili, it means "to take". Kuperekwa means "to be taken".
