There is nothing in the world quite like a Gullah basket. Highly regarded and intricately stitched, each one showcases the maker’s artistry, as well as the centuries of skill passed down through Gullah families in South Carolina’s Lowcountry region. The tradition dates back to the 1700s, a craft rooted in West African culture. For more than eight generations, the Gullah community has continued the legacy, and now, for the first time, these incredible designs are available for purchase on Etsy in partnership with Nest and Bloomberg Philanthropies.

This is beautiful and wonderful and should be culturally promoted and preserved. Don't have anything of Native Americans that I know of, and reading an article, a tradition from Georgia to Florida. Florida was a free state under the Spanish, and that explains part of the family name that I read about them. Cayetano, like Catholic saint, San Cayetano. I'm crazy about baskets, so I'm a basket case too, lol, new unique artisanship, vintage and antique baskets. Remember that Moses was a basket case.

I bought a Gullah basket 2 years ago from a weaver in SC and it's one of my favorite things. Very few people know this, Justice Clarence Thomas' first language isn't English, it is Gullah.

Awesome stuff but very expensive. Some of these works are in the thousands of dollars. I guess these great crafts are only for rich people.

Disappointed that you're helping yet again, Americans. The way this was presented was as if these people are actually in Africa.... they are not. We Americans have had enough help with stimulus checks, extended unemployment and PPP loans/grants. Any legitimate business took advantage of that.
