What's all of the stuff I keep reading all over the internet about busted welds in these boats? I love the forward console design, but I need a tough boat...not something that will get busted at the welds.

Had Alumaweld 18ft. Aluminum cant take fatigue from the waves and breaks.Not the at the welds. Fiberglass way way better

Most people who have bought a welded boat end up buying something different the second time around. I would much rather have a solid fiberglass boat in my garage. Thirty years ago I had loads of fun with a small run-about with an 85 horsepower engine. The only thing I ever had to replace was a ignition module on the Chrysler engine!

The problem with welding aluminum is that the weld is much weaker than the plate. In other words the aluminum loses heat treat. You would have to re heat treat the boat in its entirety to reintroduce full strength!! Also some companies only weld from the outside, making for a weaker weld. Boats should be welded from the inside first, the weld the outside and grind the chines sharp. Always talk to the welders before buying a boat. See if they push or pull weld. Push welds aren't as pretty but they penetrate better. Aluminum welding is an art form and much more difficult than steel. I know, I'm not great at it, but my brother in law is a monster welder. Remember, study the welding and interview the welders before you buy the boat!! I know how to tell the difference of the style of welding and what to look for!!

The driver's seat is way too far forward for a comfortable ride on all the Weldcraft boats that I have looked at. That's why I will never buy one.
