I use to go inside waste oil tankers, fuel tankers, asphalt tankers cement bulkers. Crude oil tanks smelled the worst and waste oil were bad too. They were usually flushed out but sometimes they needed the trailer right away and there wasn't time. H2S gas was the concern with crude oil and waste oil. Those two products were hauled in asphalt tankers. They were always dark and smelly. These were almost always aluminum and difficult to get to seal 100 percent but they had to be leak proof. I dont miss those days. Sometimes you make a weld then put the fire out...

After 3 years welding and wrenching on trucks along with 7 years industrial welding experience I do have to say these are the jobs that are in demand and pay exceptionally well. It’s nasty work so not many people want to do it and it’s frustrating as hell sometimes but at the end of the day you have a comfortable wage and job security which is typically hard to guarantee anywhere else.

I'm glad to see a person who cares enough to refurbish old trash trucks. They still have the possibility to work again. I wish my city would do that with their old trucks. They don't even bother to do that they just throw them in the auction and sell them to scrap yards, which pisses me off!😤

Jesse PLEASE use props or at least one substantial prop when working beneath a raised packer blade. When you're busy with the job at hand you wouldn't even notice if that thing came down till it's too late. All it takes is a hose/valve to fail. I've unfortunately seen that kind of accident. In answer to your question, yeah seen inside plenty 😉 35 years I worked on those things till I retired 👍 Please work safe buddy! Nice job 👍✌

Man it runs in my head all the time when im in there, honestly i dont know how to prop it up it, other side of the shop i hook it with the overhead crane. If u have any tips or ideas for me to fabricate a prop i will!! I dont mind when im working inside but in the hopper it runs behind my mind when im in there .

@@aweldersjourney We use those 4-6 foot pedestal jack stands that have the screw height adjustments. Those blades are heavy but the crunching power comes from the hydraulics. If you snug the jack up to the blade it wont have the momentum to knock it aside if you blow a line or lose pressure. Had a young guy with just enough experience to start working with less supervision go to swap a claw hydraulic line on our little rear load. lowered the sweeper to give himself space to work but left the blade up. Had his boot toe jammed between the hopper floor and the claw when he released the line. Steel toe boot supported the blade but trapped his foot. We got very lucky he only lost a boot that day

I do this type of work as well. Floors, wear bars, complete blade rehab. We also do the hopper liner just like in this video. But we usually do the whole thing we get the company to order the piece that already comes with the bend and fits perfectly.
