If a Land Rover's check engine light doesn't come on, it's probably burned out or disconnected.

@Robert Blackford Oh here we go. Here we go indeed. That issue seemed seperate? I'm unsure how an engine fault somehow relates to a different computer controlling a seperate system? I'm also very unimpressed by your tone there. If you recheck my comment you will note that I wrote it before that video which I've already seen was published. Please check your bull before we get all prejudiced against me for suggesting the check engine light was, as the next video confirmed, a non-issue.

We had the same issue with our 2015 Chevy Tahoe right after we got it in 2015. It had about 300 miles on it. The issue was related to the spark plugs. It was throwing up a similar code, but the mechanic said it was the computer thinking it was a miss fire (fuel to oxygen ratio low). They ended up replacing the spark plugs on cylinders 5 and 6 which were the ones throwing the code. This fixed the issue. We were towing a light trailer when this happened and since your engine was under more load then normal (going off road) it probably exposed the same type of issue. They said that in the factories the spark plugs can be damaged when being installed.

Y Right, and left out the fact LR3/4 have two chassis. Which are significantly more durable

Yeah. Car with such huge electronic parts that have much more sensitive with problems are actually useless. The legend says "if you want to go adventure, take land rover. If you want go back too take land cruiser"

Not really first lots for LR’s. It’s pretty much all through the lineup.

@@peaceandrelaxationwithgodscrea quite true, but every installation is unique. Could be something as simple as a loose hose from the airbox, or it could be a calibration issue with the altitude. Its not 100% plug and play

We have had a few with the Defenders...mostly dumb stuff. Lots of power train software glitches. Fortunately these vehicles will soon be able to update every module over the air at home. Which also means Rover will know the moment you get a cel.

RTFM, no off roading, no heavy engine loading, no revving for the first 2000 miles, it’s all in black and white.

They didn’t push that thing at all what they did wouldn’t even be anything outside of normal driving on a bumpy road. I’ve seen many vehicles get beat to crap strait off the lot and be completely fine, I watched a f-250 strait off the lot hit huge mud pits, jump, do doughnuts and get the crap kicked out of it all day and be perfectly fine. New land rovers are complete garbage and engineered to fail like many other new vehicles

I recall my friend's 2019 silverado 1500 5.3 v8 with DFM had the same thing. After a couple days and less than 200 miles the check engine light went on. That was a close to 50k truck. He didn't take it to a dealership cuz it was a lease, and it just went away after a few days and nothing happened. My point is its no big deal, but DEFINITELY disappointing for ANY new cars, especially if its a purchase and not a lease.

While its true what you said, its relative at the same time; there are tons of little small things that the OEM "tied" to that stupid CEL that they shouldnt in the first place; in my opinion CEL should be for important problems, not like you closed the door to hard and the car didnt liked it and the CEL its on now (lol) i hope you get my point =)

I think the engine check light was the result of that engine not being able to cope at high altitude.

I am willing to bet that altitude and possibly fuel type was the culprit here? Was there a break in period on these, not sure if that matters nowa days... Although shouldn't LR have engineered that into consideration?

I live in Colorado, and I see car companies testing prototypes in the mountains all the time. I guess I've never seen a prototype LR, but I'm sure they tested them somewhere at altitude.

People who think altitude are funny. Come on now it’s a Land Rover... they clearly have tested it at altitude. Also cars have been able to adjust to this for YEARS.... Most likely getting to much air (after adjustment for altitude) due to a vacuum leak or possible intake gasket

Went to the alps this summer with my 19MY Landcruiser, fully packed, roof top tent and all. Drove a total of 1700 miles (car has total 35000 miles) and have been up to roughly 9000ft / 2750 m above sea level and back down to 1500ft not once but 7 times in 10 days. The car is a workhorse. Never had any problems. Pulls trailers, hauls family, goes off-road, does holiday trips. Not a single fault so far. Nothing replaced. I bet my wiper blades will last longer than the Defender engine.

This thing has a turbo. High altitude really does not affect boosted engines as much as na engines. It probably does require premium fuel and it seems where they live the highest they can get is 91. It may require higher such as 93.

Land Rover has been using Lucas System for their electronic system. That's been a main problem cause of their vehicle. Where as the German has been using Bosch system for their electronic systems (More durable than The Lucas') but still the Japanese made is more durable and simple.
