The concept of wellness and reablement are embedded into the community based aged care programs. Understanding what the concepts mean helps you as an aged care support worker, case manager or program manager to deliver a better service to your clients as well as meet program requirements. Understanding the concept can also help when it comes to completing annual wellness and reablement reporting.

Hi! Thank you very much for a very clear explaining. I really enjoyed your video and watched the progress note one too. I am currently studying Cert III in Age Care and was looking for more details about providing care using Enablement and Re-ablement approaches. And I am guessing Enablement is similar to the wellness you are talking here right?

Thanks for your feedback Thilini. You are correct, supporting or enabling a person is similar to taking a wellness approach, it's about looking for a person's strengths, identifying barriers that might prevent the person taking a specific action (and how to overcome these) and making sure you are not putting any barriers in place when caring for the person. An example might be where you are helping someone to shower, they may need some assistance to clean areas of their body which you can help with, but if you also give them a face washer they can actively participate in their own showering by cleaning areas of their body they can reach. Without the face washer they are a passive recipient of care, with the face washer they are enabled to become a partner in the activity. Hope that helps, have a great week.
