Enjoyed listening to this again with you guys. My brother bought this when it came out in in 1970 in the UK and my mum used to play it constantly, much to my dad's consternation. There's a great version on the Concert for George KZfaq video in London with Eric Clapton, Tom Petty , Jeff Lynne and others,..well worth checking out.

Beware of Darkness is often my favorite song on the album depending on the week I listen to this album and mood I'm in. Suffice to say it's one of the best songs on the album. There's some really good covers of this song. Eric Clapton did the song justice when he sang it at the tribute to Harrison concert, after George's death.

Good to see it online finally. After Georges and Pauls best album, you should check out Johns best (Plastic Ono Band or Imagine). An inspiring person with inspiring music, you would appreciate it.

You consider RAM as Paul’s best album? Interesting. It’s surely his most underrated, but I wouldn’t consider it as his best. My favourite album by Paul is 1982’s TUG OF WAR followed by 1973’s BAND ON THE RUN.

@@joshpauley289 If it was the case the solo careers of both would prove it. But it didn't. The career of Paul was/is more succesful only in the way of getting high in charts - but it was/is not because his songwriting was/is better - but only because his music is much more commercial and he put much more efforts in promotion. ALL four beatles are far behind of THE BEATLES. All for of them have many garbage songs in their solo careers - very high percentage. In The Beatles that percentage was much less. The "BestEverAllbums" site (thousands of different voices for songs ratings) shows that The Beatles is still 1st in the "overall artists ranking", Paul is 108th, John - 134th, George - 142th, Ringo - 1382nd. It shows that the three of them are in the same league, and Ringo - far behind. It's not just one (mine or yours) opinion, it is result of ratings given by hundreds and thousands votes

George wrote the song "Apple Scruffs" about the Beatles fans that would hang out night & day in front of Apple Studios waiting to get a glimpse of any of the band coming in or going out. He named them "scruffs" because many of them would be there for several days without changing clothes. And once they found out where they lived, they'd hang out there too. McCartney said that they would sleep in his garden waiting for him.

An two of the apple scruffs are singing in the background. George got them into the studio and they sang very silent, because the girls thaught, they could not sing. But George helped them over.

Bear in mind when you talk about 'rejected' Beatles songs, Lennon and McCartney also had many unused, 'rejected' songs from their time in the Beatles, many of which also became significant solo tracks for them (Lennon's 'Jealous Guy' for example was based on a song he had not used for the White Album), so it wasn't a case of Harrison being kept down by some conspiracy or being downtrodden or neglected. He was songwriter no 3 in a band of incredibe song writers. All of his songs weren't going to be used when Lennon and MCCartney wrent even using all of theirs.

Great reaction guys... When this album came out I can still remember going into my local record shop in a small town in Scotland going up to the counter and buying my 3 album, boxed, vinyl copy. It had 3 albums in it and the last album is missed off of this CD version. It is a collection of 5 "studio jams" and whilst it isn't absolutely necessary to hear, for a Beatles anorak like me it's something nice to have. One of the tracks is 11 minutes long so you really have to want to listen to it. Stay safe both of you and Keep on Rocking

I really enjoyed your journey (parts 1 and 2) through All Things Must Pass. I think it's a journey everyone should take, but that's just my opinion. George got into Hare Krishna during his Beatle days. His next album, Living in the Material World, explores this spirituality even more than All Things Must Pass. That album was a commercial and critical success and highly anticipated coming after the highly acclaimed All Things Must Pass. Material World is a good album, but not in the class of All Things Must Pass (but then what is especially for that day). I subscribed and will check out more of your reviews.

Great job, guys! Many of the players, on this album were originally in Delaney and Bonnie’s band. Clapton, Harrison, and Dave Mason (from Traffic), did some shows with Delaney and Bonnie. Clapton pulled several band members away from them, to form Derek and the Dominoes.

You guys are really awesome at this. I believe you've found your forte. I enjoyed this tremendously. There are several reasons. Number one, You're both extremely intelligent & knowledgeable. You don't yap though the songs like everyone else does. You truly listen! You're honest about your opinions. Plus, you add great humor when it's needed. As I'm sure you know, most people that do this are only trying to make money and that's all. Most are just very young ghetto kids laughing, talking & getting high on screen. Nothing wrong with the ghetto, I come from the projects too. But you don't have to act like many out there perceive us. A little class would help. You guys do it right, and take it seriously. You are now officially my two favorite on KZfaq. Thank you both for making this two hour experience enjoyable. The way it should be. Could you please tell me what else you react to? Is it just albums, or do you also react to singles? How about films and other things. Just curious, but if you do, I'd like to list a few for your reaction. The Beatles' "Rubber Soul, Help!, and A Hard Day's Night" albums. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's "Born To Run". Foreigner's debut album, entitled "Foreigner" from 1977. Deep Purple's "Machine Head". The J. Geils Band's (who I worked for from 74'-78'). 1972 live album called "Full House". Either way, I'm staying. I'm on board. Thank you both!

I really enjoyed your review of the album over the two episodes ... I would imagine it was a daunting task as it is not the easiest album to digest on a first listening. I think it is good that you checked online to see what some of the songs were about, not something I could do when I bought the album in the late 70s as a teenager. I would love you to react to John's masterpiece, John Lennon Plastic Ono Band, which was released just after All Things Must Pass in 1970, but with such a different minimalist sound, with only Ringo on drums, Klaus Voorman on bass and John on either piano or guitar on each song. Then you will have reacted to the best album of each of the three ex-Beatles (though some think 'Imagine' is John's best album and 'Band of the Run' is Pauls'). To complete the set, you could review Ringo's 1973 album, 'Ringo', which is his best and which featured songs and collaborations with each of the ex-Beatles. Now you have done George's double album, (and I haven't checked to see if you have reviewed it), you could review the Beatles 'White Album' which is their double album from 1968 and arguably the greatest double album ever! (Although Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd etc fans may disagree!) :)

'All things must pass' was already written in 1968 and was rejected for the White Album (Beatles). There are some rehearsal records by the Beatles playing this song. They are so great. I bet this would have been a great, great Beatles song if they had released it.

So you're not doing Disc 3 ("Apple Jam")? I'm cool with that. All Things Must Pass was released on three LPs, and it's often described as a "triple album," but it's fairer to describe it as a double album with a bonus disc of instrumental jams (which I didn't listen to very often).
@gerrycoogan6544
@gerrycoogan6544 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly right. A double album with a bonus disc - that's exactly how I have always thought of it. Moreover, if Beware Of Darkness and All Things Must Pass could somehow have been squeezed onto the first disc, I'd still consider it to be in the frame for the "Best Beatles Solo Album" award, even as a single album. There's nothing wrong with most of the material on Disc 2 but the truly outstanding stuff is mostly front-loaded. It would be fascinating to be able to find out the relative proportions that each disc was played in the homes of the smart folks who own a copy of the original vinyl.

All Things Must Pass would have made a brilliant single album. As it is George's voice doesn't have the versatility of Paul McCartney or even Lennon to sustain a double album imho. The second disc sounds like just more of the same. Listen to Ram or Back to the Egg if you want a varied and really superb album
