Great video with all of the important stuff without rambling on. I subscribed after watching another of your videos. I have a suggestion for topstitching. When I do topstitching, I don't backstitch. First, I begin and end with a longer thread-tail. Then, I thread a needle with the top thread and pull it through the back and tie it with the bobbin thread. Lastly, I thread a needle with both threads and work them into the fabric and snip them. This way, I avoid any bulkiness in my topstitching. It's a little extra work, but it pays off.

I've just bought my first sewing machine the other day as I plan on reupholstering my car seats and your channel was the first one that came up when I was looking for sewing beginner guides, I've now watched a few of your videos and they've made me want to make my own shirts, hoodies, bags and now after watching this video I want to male my own jeans! I watched this video because I didn't have a clue what a welt pocket was, as soon as I saw what it is and the fabric you used my instant thought was "that would make a great pocket accent on some jeans!" I'm now off to shop for patterns and materials lol! Keep the videos coming! new subscriber right here :D

This is certainly the "simpler" method, it's not "better", but with some practice its hard to tell the difference between the two :)

Great, thank you. I may have to recut a couple of jacket pieces from a Simplicity pattern. The pattern uses an old method that is meant to torture the semester because it is very difficult to get a flat, smooth opening.

I'm debating on getting this machine or the brother se700/725 as my first machine, but concerned about how the se700 will perform if I make something like a canvas bag like you said the se400 had issues with. Not sure if the se700 upgrade handles thick material better, but I'd love the option for embroidery.

what does it mean when a polo has a welted collar? thanks for the awesome vid and explanation btw :)

That generally means its a two-part collar. The first part acting as a structure for the collar to take shape, and the 2nd part is the fabric that makes up the actual collar. It's a pretty cool technique too!

So..... where did you work PROFESSIONALLY before you started customs?
@TockCustom4 жыл бұрын
Oh boy... I worked as the IT Director for a few mental health clinics when I started Tock Custom LLC. - Before that I did circuit board repair on hospital machinery and equipment, before that I managed a chemical distribution warehouse... I should stop here... the list is way too long lol
@justchris8464 жыл бұрын
Tock Custom I started at a Monogramming and embroidery shop when I was.... what 8 years old, 10? It was my great aunt(a) great grandmother, and grandmother’s shop, I started with sweeping floors, cleaning tear away, discarded thread, etc, then Grandmother showed me how to “wind bobbins “, going to the topstitch board and getting 3 ladies different threads, aunt Carole showed me how to perforate, and do basic hooping, this all started wayyyyyy back in 1990, the shop was called “Quality Lettering”. I literally grew up in the sewing world. I like your videos and ideas, that shop went on for about 30 years. Many, many, holidays worked overnights, many nights spent helping great grandmother finish quilts for customers, sleeping on the couch watching eddy raven and Selena, sewing is in my blood and it’s our life. I’m just speaking a tiny bit of my experience. You do a good thing, man!
@justchris8464 жыл бұрын
I remember the nights Chuck Norris came in with his jackets and stuff and wanted patch work done. Back then I didn’t know who he was and thought he was just a regular, he’d bring the ladies dinner, and my aunt would say how she thought his old Cadillac was “so purdy”. She’s passed away some years ago, but Aunt Florene , started that entire business with only a couple of machines and a lot of will. The good ol days!
