Europe's fastest and highest wooden roller coaster is located in the Heide Park Resort in Soltau. The amusement park has been characterized by the 60 meter high ride since 2001. With a top speed of almost 110 kilometers per hour, “Colossos” was a real crowd puller, with around 20 million guests traveling in 15 years. The restoration began in 2016. New wood, new rails, new technology - the report accompanies the extensive renovation of Germany's most popular wooden roller coaster.

Roller coasters are truly the most underrated pieces of engineering marvels in existence. Everyone only thinks about how fun it might be, or just ride it and think naught more about them, but they are such complex and advanced pieces of engineering. You see wooden trestle bridges being immortalized as "important" and "incredible", but you never see roller coasters like this being praised on an engineering aspect. They are truly incredible. I LOVE roller coasters, and when it comes to the engineering aspect, particularly wooden roller coasters like this one. I always have loved it, and always will!

I used to watch all the theme park doc's on Travel Channel when I was younger and this was well-produced and insightful. I also really appreciate the translation of even the snarky bits of small talk - helps put you there in the moment!

You need to be very smart for jobs like this though.Personally I like being the guy high up there working on the stuff.

Fyi Colossos is the 2nd tallest wooden rollercoaster in Europe, the claimed height differs between sources, but the manufacturer claims it has a height of 53 meters and I trust their claims over any other. Wildfire at Kolmarden in Sweden has a height of 56 meters, making it 3 meters taller.

Wooden coasters are supposed to beat the snot out of ya! They should look like you'll get tetanus just sitting in the seat. Unfortunately Heide did not maintain the ride. This was a very time intensive, extremely expensive renovation, that was completely unnecessary. If they had've maintained the ride as instructed by Intamin (the manufacturer), none of this would've happened.

Yup. Take el toro for example, its over 15 years old, and while it isn't buttery smooth everywhere, its considerably smoother than most other wooden coasters. That is because great adventure replaces track every off season. The camelbacks are replaced the most often.

@@alecvip7562 Six Flags does not do sufficient maintenance on El Toro. This is why it has several problem areas right now. I rode it in 2022 right before the accident and there's many potholes on the ride that need work. Great Adventure should undertake the same scale of refurbishment as Colossus got. I doubt Six Flags will go to this much trouble, however. They are historically negligent with their wood coasters.
