@@darkosimic7945 @jcaashby3 I was just saying that to someone earlier today, that he (Wemby) looks a little fragile. However, after thinking about this a little bit more, I honestly cannot think of someone who was freakishly tall in the NBA, that ended their career early because of injuries due to their height. Shaq? Wilt? Yao? Manut Bol? Mark Eaton? Kareem? They all had really long careers, and some of them area still alive today, believe it or not. I think Wemby has the closest frame/body type to Manut Bol, who lived to be 47 years old, which is past anyones NBA career.

@jokogs13 It doesn't play in his favor. Lmao. The whole point is to make the game harder on these superstar level players. It's never to stop them. You can't stop them. The only person that CAN stop them is themselves. However, you tire him out with some big bodies and that will affect ANYONE. Doesn't mean it will stop Wemby, but he will have to work harder inside for boards and boxouts. Which IS tiring and DOES make the game harder.

Agreed but once he gets more league experience under his belt, he’s going to (hopefully) end up being one of the most dominant players we’ve ever seen. His first season barely started and he’s already an above league average player and we’re blessed to be able to watch the kid work out all of the kinks in his game and really mentally grow into his body so that he’s not moving as clumsily. And yeah that shot blocking ability? Absolutely unreal. With this generations sort of “universal green-light” to just fire from anywhere on the court, he’s going to get some pretty insane looking numbers with the unbelievable amount of shooting (and missing) today

Had a similar situation at a much lower level of competition and what our coach had us practice and put into action on game day was to spend the first quarter taking the ball directly at the guy up court and make contact on the dribble away from the basket, over and over with different ball handlers. The goal was to get his feet moving and then make contact. It went directly at his weakness, which was foot movement away from the basket. Sometimes we were called with a charging foul and sometimes he was called with the foul, but it worked enough to get him benched and for us to run our game. When he came back on the floor, we switched back and did the same thing, got him to foul away from the basket again, and made him a non factor. Not sure if a similar plan would work with Big W or not but they might have to try.

really blocking a three should count as 1.5 blocks, given how were in the 3 point era after his career is over if even 20% of his blocks are 3s then valuing all his blocks equally on the stat sheet would significantly under value the impact of those blocks
@GOATiology

I agree. The game has evolved so much, especially with the emphasis on three-pointers in today's era.

Wembanyama may have single handedly started the beginning of the end of the long ball era. Other teams will start looking for their version and have them specialize on 3's alone
@musicpatron1693
@musicpatron1693 7 ай бұрын
disagree..I think he gave the NBA more reason to support it...they gotta hit either the short 3's above 50% and the layups in order to spread wimby a lot..it'll get him tired faster
@vanhattfield8292
@vanhattfield8292 7 ай бұрын
How would teams looking for 7 footers who specialize on 3's be an end to the long ball era? That seems like more of an evolution of the long ball game.
@GOATiology
@GOATiology 6 ай бұрын
That's an intriguing perspective on Wembanyama's impact on the game. It's true that his exceptional skills and focus on three pointers could potentially influence other teams to seek out their own players with similar specialization.
