I really think she has gotten a "vocal glow-up" after Rebecca similar to Solar's after Mata Hari. Musical Theater and Pop have similar vocal techniques, but (in my opinion) there is better vocal training for Musical Theater than for Pop music (or maybe it has been standardized better?).

Like, she takes immense care to not overpower the vocals on them and give a balanced performance. The best example would be duet of Chanyeol & Wendy singing 'stay with me' in SMTOWN 2017 performance. He's a deep tone rapper-cum-vocalist and you could see he appreciated it so much :)

Lol the Duet was interesting to say the least. Wendy is like this roaring fire, she cuts through a song so clearly. Mujins got this smooth tone and I think at times they couldn't match each others energy. It was still interesting to see how they kept adapting in the middle of the song to try to match.

Have you ever heard Wendy's song called What If Love? It is from the kdrama Touch Your Heart. I would love to hear you react to it. The video features the amazing actors from the drama, but Wendy's voice is so impactful. Whenever they played the song in the drama, I literally was floored by her vocals. I think you would love it. Wendy actually has some great solo songs outside of Like Water. Some of them she channels the legends like Whitney, Mariah, and Celine. She does amazing with slowly building to the climax of a song. Her lower register is phenomenal and then when she does belt, it's just icing on the cake. I think you would love her cover of Halo too. She was in high school and had a powerful voice back then. She sings much healthier now, but man, the power she had when she was younger floored me. I really love your analysis of Wendy's vocals. You touch on things I've said about Wendy that not all kpop fans understand, but growing up on R&B since the 70's I feel so connected to Wendy. She reminds me of singers of the past thar I grew up listening to and hope one day she delves more into R&B/Soul with her next releases.

There are a lot of good vocalists in kpop. I often say the others take you on a ferris wheel vocally, but with Wendy she takes you on a roller-coaster. You never know which direction those vocals will go or what note will come out of her or tone of voice she will use. To this day I don't know how Wendy can do a 3 second high note and make me lose my sh#t! I swear someone sprinkled her vocal cords with diamonds because she sounds rich asf 😂😂😂💎💎💎
