Around 19:30 mark, he talks about the influence of social media on team selection. And that couldn't have been more true today. This man is a legend in my eyes, not just for making this statement, but what a philosophical human being he is with his knowledge and wisdom. Whenever I have to think of an old, stereotypical Frenchman living the rest of his life in peace knowing that he did something good to stamp his impact into something global, I think of Mr. Wenger, and as someone who supports a direct rival to Arsenal, he has my utmost respect. Long live, Le Professor.

Arsenal since 1886 (131 years in top flight football) The club has won 13 League titles (3 delivered by AW), 13 FA Cups (record, 7 delivered by AW), 2 League Cups, 14 FA Community Shields (5 delivered by AW), 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Total trophies in 131 years = 43. Delivered by AW in 21 yrs = 15. AW has been manager for 16% of AFC's existence but has delivered 35% of its trophies. If you think AFC was winning everything before 1996, read above again.

He can make a teenager great, but there isn’t much he can do for players once they’ve reached their prime. That’s what puts him behind Fergie. Fergie could handle strong personalities in their prime.

I have total respect for Campbell because i understand the industry. Campbell knew he had the skills to operate at a much higher level and also recognised his worth. Just as you do I'm sure. A player only has a heart beat to perform at his peak a manager has a lifetime in comparison.
@Marley20067 жыл бұрын
I also understand the industry, its not the fact that he left, but more how he left. He has since actually apologised for the way he left in a roundabout way (www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2581254/Sol-Campbell-apologises-Tottenham-fans-Arsenal-no-regrets-transfer-north-London-rivals.html) ... He says he spoke to Tottenham and asked for a particular wage which he thought was more in line with his ability / service and that would also encourage others to come in at the club that could match his ability and the club could build from there. His request was turned down, I don't think we could afford what he was asking to be honest and that's when he allowed his contract to run down (I believe out of bitterness) and went to Arsenal our main rivals on a free! All the while mind you saying to the fans and everyone else I will stay, I will sign a new contract. If your gonna leave, that's fine, at least allow the club to recoup some money from your transfer, allow Spurs to make something back so we can have something to work with when looking for a replacement. This is what angers Spurs fans until today, I don't begrudge Sol for going to Arsenal, but it is the manner in which he did it, it was quite a nasty thing to do to be quite honest. That's why he still receives such hatred up until today!!
@christophercaldwell10677 жыл бұрын
I respect Wenger, Guardiola, Allegre and Simeone because these are individuals in the way they organize their teams. 18:40 - Arsene talks about computers picking teams and supporters voting for substitutions as if this is something that might happen in the future but a lot of managers have relied on trends to field their teams. In the 1990's everyone was playing 4-4-2 after the turn of the millennium it was 4-2-3-1, now the trend is 3-4-3. These teams might as well be using a computer's to choose their starting 11. And as far as supporters picking the team, in the U.S. this is called the All Star game.

I respect him a lot, very intelligent man and humble. Looking at what Jose Mourinho trying to do now with Spurs which is facing the same issue after moving stadiums, it's not so easy. Even if he was The Special One. He is experiencing how Arsene was going through between 2006 to 2018. When the structure changed a lot from within and loyalty lost from behind. We can see a lot of difference. The final years of Wenger, transfers done without his full approval and support from the office obviously not there. I really hope Mikel with his values and modern tactics learnt from elsewhere can take Arsenal forward. Wenger always the gaffer and happy to see his old boys respect him in some ways. You can see all 3 grown men trying to clear their what was a barrier in the back of their minds for years. Communication and belief was mentioned. I do think its key element. That was where Unai Emery failed. Tactics and vision, he got it. However, he did not believe in some players. Made a bad atmosphere with key players in an abrupt fashion. His inability to communicate well, was a disaster. A big part of the team got alienated. Wenger's personality attracted and build up a togetherness. A lot of players and fans look at him as a missing father figure. It was hurtful to witnessed the latter part of his Arsenal career, where some fans start doing things lacking class and obviously some outsiders too advantage in arranging banners. AFTV was toxic for Wenger. Arsene in my opinion, is still a good personality for boardroom decisions for this club. His knowledge, heart and commitment. He still wearing Arsenal training gear from 2018, when Covid 19 was around the air in London. That really was touching. I realised the reason that I still supported this club was down to the gaffer esp. when Dennis Bergkamp retired, which was my first reason to follow Arsenal. I know the FA Cup wins back to back and 2017 was the belief they have in him. My biggest disappointment was the team crashing out in the EL semi finals during his final year. The passion and emotions from the players was clear with exception to newcomers and those wanting to leave.

its hard to imagine where arsenal would be today if it did not have arsene as manager during the financial turbulence of the move to the emirates stadium. I am not sure anyone else could have managed the impact of that (on players and supporters) as well as arsene did. Feels that Arsenal would be in a much worse position today had they not had him. (could u imagine Mourinho handling such a situation ? ) it seems he clearly has a good financial brain to complement his people management/technical football brain. Would love to see Wenger and Ferguson sit across a table together on video like this and chat about the old days of their rivalry.
