Tom, another great topic and an even better explanation of how arm length affects your swing. More than anything your videos help me understand the 'why' in golf that wasn't getting addressed by asking my buddies. They could tell me that I needed to hit 'down' on the ball with my irons but they could not tell me why or even what hitting down really meant! Thanks for your time and dedication to helping us get better, salute!

Tom! I don't think I have ever seen an explanation on how the length of the arms determine one's swing plane. Your explanation and demonstration was excellent! Being of average height and arm length, my swing plane would be such as yours. Good Job Tom! Keep up the good work!!

This is something that I have unconsciously been correcting and misunderstanding for years now. I have long arms and been so frustrated that I couldn’t swing on plane like Tiger and other pros. This also explains why I hit so many more fades. This is maybe the most important lesson I’ve ever had. Thank you!

Very true. Been playing for 17 years and I have long arms and even back when I played in high school I remember trying a Jim Furyk type swing in a match with a 4 iron and flushed it. My swing thoughts even up till now are high hands which always works for me. Just need to work on how to stay down at impact better due to my longer legs as well and shorter torso.

So true-- I have short arms and cannot swing upright-- no way-- I was measured and they were saying I could use clubs that were 1 inch longer????? Great video!!!!

What if one has broad shoulders but short arms? This person could have a long wing span but also short arms. This describes me. How should this guy swing?

Do you think shorter arms equate to a slower swing? I have shorter arms and I'm trying speed training and my driver speed is about 92 at its best giving full effort. If I make a more easy swing with 2/3 power it's around 75 to 80

I’m 185cm with 200cm wingspan and I go very high in the backswing. Will definitely take this into account from now when ppl advise me to go shallow. Are long arm a advantage or disadvantage in golf? I’ve always thought it’s a disadvantage.

This is why we do club fitting and adjust the club length and lie to the Player’s swing and size. He can then swing the way he wants.

is there a link between having one arm slightly longer than the other and it's effect on low point? for example does someone with a longer right arm tend to need to move the ball position back in their stance?

But you didn't mention the proportions of the upperarms Vs Forearms - Length. People with longer upperarms vs theirs forearms should swing more vertical says.... It's a lot of variables...

I think the opposite of what he says is true If your arms are longer relative to your body your wrist to floor will be lower You won't be able to do a steep swing without running out of room

Hi Tom, I’m 177cm with an armspan of 190cm. I have the perpetual problem that no matter what I do on the backswing, my arms raise late, the club is way inside, and then I come back over the top. I’ve had lessons form 10 different pros, and none of them can fix it. I’ve managed to get down to a handicap of 6 with this swing, but I hate it. I like to keep connected and compact on the backswing, otherwise I feel no control. When I raise my hands high, the over the top move seems to almost go, and the ball flies for miles (185 yard 7 iron carry versus 150 with compact swing), but it feels totally disconnected and out of control, and the elbow flies. It just doesn’t seem right to me. Any thoughts? Should I persevere with keeping the arms high?

This is too generalized. Dispersion on arm length and distance to floor also matters. Two people with the same height and arm lengths can have completely different angles of attack. Long legs vs long torso. WTF measurement is a more important factor then arm length.
