Also red hair wasn’t as common in celts as people make it out to be. Red hair among Irish people was mostly a result of Vikings intermixing with the native Irish population and over the course of a thousand years red hair was made more prevalent due to selective breeding because it was seen as attractive.

It's a little annoying to see some comments from women obviously struggling with their weight - celebrating Aphrodite as being overweight. Women with 'some' extra fat would have been found to be "more attractive" because it would indicate status and health: You've got enough money to eat well and not be wasting away from malnutrition.... It's not some kind of "skin deep" beauty standard that completely surpasses superficiality. ..... Thanks for reading my lengthy, and possibly a tad judgy, comment lol 👍

Yes, in Ancient Greece, being beautiful was associated with being a good person. There was even a saying about that: being "καλὸς κἀγαθός" (kalos kagathos / kalos kai agathos) meant being "beautiful and virtuous". _Kalos = beautiful,_ like in calli-graphy (beautiful-writing) _Kai = and_ _Agathos = good, virtuous,_ like in the surname "Agatha"

@prenomnom2812 Ай бұрын
@@fismail4330as a Frenchman, "kalos" is not a French word. (By the way, you can tell it easily as there's only a handful of French words that contain the letter K. The letter K is almost absent from French.) However, maybe Pokemon creators named this region "Kalos" because they thought it was beautiful? Even though the region is based off France and not Greece, it still makes sense to use a Greek etymology as Greek is a prestige language which is looked up to in all western cultures (as well as Latin). Loads of sustained and literary words derive from Greek etymologies in French (and generally in European languages). So yeah, even though it's France, using somme Greek roots is not absurd. Edit: _"According to Junichi Masuda, Kalos's name is derived from the Greek word κάλλος kállos, meaning beauty."_ Source: Bulbapedia.

The body/mind/spirit connection their philosophers spoke of. I think it has merit to a point. If you are healthy, you're going to be pretty attractive. Health also effects hormone balance and clarity of thought. To maintain health also requires discipline. Working out does wonders for one's overall well being, not just making them stronger/faster/etc.

The Romans found a word to describe this practice but didn't invent the practice itself. Other primates had already been doing this for millions of years. Two male baboons who cooperate with each other by forming aggressive alliances against other baboons frequently fondle each other's genitalia. This behavior has nothing to do with sex but it's a social ritual that primatologists call a "greeting." "

On the topic of men's figures, it should be noted that another major difference between ancient Greek standards and modern standards was waists. Modern men are expected to have narrow waists and even narrower hips to emphasize shoulder width... ...in ancient greece, however, there was a much greater emphasis on having a wide waist and strong obliques, because that grants greater stability, robustness, and actual strength.

The small p3nis thing is incorrect. They depicted them as smaller in art becuase it SYMBOLISED a person overcoming their inner beast and become a higher being. It was a symbol of their intellect controlling their instincts and not the other way around, which is why they are depicted with beards (the sign of the philosopher). Also it's just much more aesthetic in art, imagine if all those beautiful statues had huge dongs, it would look ridiculous and comical

@HDTomo Dude, having belly fat doesn't automatically make you "obese." You do realize there are technically several levels to body weight/fat disbursement? Even just going by general vibe on obesity, having belly fat doesn't mean that, either. Back when I was thin (I was for most of my life until having my son), even being 110 lbs into adulthood at 5'5", I STILL had some belly chub and a little muffin top. Body type helps determine that. I've seen woman skinnier than I ever was that had belly fat. It's a female thing and it's natural. I know you were being facetious, but the way you say things can have a negative impact on people.

If he actually said that, he’d sound like one of those kids from r/im14andthisisdeep. This individuality bs that’s being promoted nowadays just makes people whiny and wanting to feel special all the time and also doing dumb shit on Tiktok.

@@4m4n40 Lol. Have you ever heard David Goggins talk? You probably should listen to him about more if you think he encourages people to "be whiny" and "wanting to feel special all the time"

This sounds like the men who controlled things just decided they wanted to make big dicks seem gross to women. I’m sure this failed but if it did work then wouldn’t that mean thru selection Greek men would have smaller wangs in the present day?

Actually, it is, as strange as this sound. As in, try imagining how would "the evolution of 'barbarism to civility'," and vice versa, look like and how would your preferences change?
