Exactly. But that role was simple, a warrior unleashed to kill as many of the greatest enemy of his tribe. He did not have to bend, to compromise to try to live with oppressors.

Mr Studi's portrayal of Magua, and the way the film describes his motivation to destroy "The Grayhair"... One of the best revenge stories of all... Woven into the lives of Chingachgook, Uncas and Nathional... The best movie ever made portraying times in the colonies during The French and Indian Wars...

Wes as Magua made Last of the Mohicans unforgettable. He didn't play a monster, but a man broken and twisted by suffering into a demon of pure hate and vengeance. He put such subtlety into his performance, and that's what made him truly terrifying. For example, the way he delivers his final words to Greyhair before ripping his heart out sounds like a rehearsed and practiced speech, like a man who *knew* what he would say at that precise moment. He didn't grandly enunciate the words in a Shakespearean manner, but stated them with clarity and simplicity, making sure his enemy understood. It's the little things that make a performance great.

Agreed.. And he even did it as if someone had practiced it countless times over the years and when the time finally came it's just kind of came out... how it came out. The man is talented.

What I love about his character in Heat is that he's just a regular detective, they don't play up his "Nativeness" in it. He's just a regular character, and us Natives get some representation in Hollywood that isn't the usual Hollywood's take on Indigenous people.

Learning he was in Vietnam and around the same age as my father who is also Native American it's such a contrast. My dad carried/carries that war hard with him to this day. If anyone wants to see more of Wes' comedic chops, if you haven't seen Reservation Dogs he appears in a couple episodes and he's pretty funny.

I met Wes Studi at the Albuquerque airport in 2010. I was on my way to my dad's funeral and was just... Lost walking through the terminal. I nearly bumped into him and when I looked up to apologize I remember just gaping at him for a bit. He's a really chill guy, very friendly. I know he doesn't know it, but he made the flight to North Dakota bearable.

I don’t recall seeing Wes Studi playing any character that I didn’t like. He’s underrated and under worked. The scene in which Magua is killed in the ending of Last Of The Mohicans, left me sitting on the edge of the sofa with my jaw dropped.

LOTM is one of my top 5 movies. As to how it wasn't nominated for 1992 best picture, director, cinematography, and maybe 1 or 2 acting categories is beyond me. Wes studi, DDL, and madeline stowe were part of a great cast. And of course the soundtrack is something absolutely magical.

I actually talked with Wes on the phone when i was in college in Boulder. He was in support of the Native American club there and I happened to be in the office when he called. Great well spoken man.

His performance as Magua was just simply amazing in Mohicans. The final scenes with his silent interaction between himself and Alice before she jumps to her death left such an impression. The complexity of his character and his delivery makes him one of cinemas great villians, yet somehow sympathetic and real. Fantastic actor!

Magua was so consumed with rage and then suddenly he had some compassion for this woman who saw her love die a violent death right before her. It appeared Magua never considered what happened to her until she was on the ledge.

Wes Studi's portrayal of Magua made Last of the Mohicans. The final scene is one of my cinematic favorites. Magua was a tragic and terrifying character and Wes nailed the performance. Truly one of the greats.

I was in Oklahoma for my grandmother's funeral. I was at some hotel, I don't remember. I got up for breakfast and I saw Wes sitting at a table having a coffee. I looked at him, he looked at me, I nodded respectfully, he did the exact same, and I walked on...I knew...he knew...I knew he knew...he knew I knew he knew. It was awesome. We never said a word.

He played the character of Magua so we'll, that I hated him when he killed Uncas. He acted incradibly well, he is a great actor. I felt so tense in that movie and believe me, all the way through. One scene I particular like was when the English soldiers were let go by the French after they gave up the fort and went thru a large forest path way clearing and then were attacked by Magua. That scene was felt so real, that I felt been there fighting the indians. I believe that The last of the Mohicans was one of many great movies I watched in my entire life. I was so much intense watching the movie, that even at the end I felt sad that it ended. I wanted for day's after I watched it, to have lived that life, eventhough it must of been a rough life.

The Last Of The Mohicans is my all time favorite movie. Each role was perfectly portrayed by the actors in such a magnificent way. Wes Studi as Magua was a portrayal I'll never forget. He was terrifying! The silent unspoken words of love between Uncas and Alice will forever be my favorite love story, sad yet beautiful. I simply love all the actors' portrayal of the roles they played.

One of THE GREATEST character actors of our time. Many of his roles appeared "small" but ALL of his roles were glue that held the story together. It seems like Mr Studi is a man who is grateful to be a part of some of the greatest movies of our time and proud to represent a marginalized Native society. 🎬🎥👏

As a kid who loved historical films, when Dances with Wolves and Last of the Mohicans came out, I obviously loved those movies. Wes Studi was such a great villain in each. Not a two-dimension bad guy, just a perfect antagonist. And he seems like a really cool guy in real life.

I’d love to see Wes cast in a legal or business drama film where he’s a CEO or lawyer type. He has the sort of gravitas that few actors can pull off where he’s naturally in charge, sort of an Edward James Olmos vibe. Incredible actor, I’m a huge fan.

Hostiles has beautiful writing, acting, and a fantastic score. It very is underrated. Wes is more so underrated. I know he certainly has a typecast, but he really masterfully makes each character stand on its own

The reason he did that is Lewis did a movie about a painter who painted with his left foot. It's what made him famous. It's called, "my left foot".

World class actor. I love the dynamic he crafted between "Toughest Pawnee" in "Dances with Wolves" and Magua in "The Last of the Mohicans." It taught me the difference between a villain and an antagonist. Plus, he breached that door like a boss in "Heat."

I can watch LotM over repeatedly and enjoy it every time, Wes was outstanding in the film, his character was focussed and devoid of pity, superb acting…helped make it a classic movie and one of my all time fav.

When I was in an artillery battery at Ft. Sill, I visited Geronimo's grave. It was a moving experience. Studi's portrayal of Geronimo was powerful.

The LOTM movie in my opinion was actually better than the JF Cooper book as it did away with the awkward stilted language and turned the 2 dimentional characters into real people. Magua was terrifying but also his terrible losses had made his actions understandable. Magua was tragic because he had lost the last shred of humanity. One of the greatest movie villains of all time. (Actually Magua was worse in the book as it was Cora not Alice who died and that is because Cora defied Magua and he cold bloodedly stabbed her to death after killing Uncas.

Wes Studi was my grandpa’s roommate at Chilocco Indian School. The stories were that they were bunk mates and they had to talk to each other in Cherokee in secrecy…I didn’t believe until I saw their yearbook and saw both my grandfather and Wes in the same class.

I was obsessed with Dances with Wolves as a kid when it first came out on VHS Tape. I ended up buying it so I could watch it over and over. In my life, I think I might have seen it around 20 times. I thought it was great. When I was older (about 16) I got a tattoo of a Wolf howling in front of a full moon.
