Amongst all the necron characters in warhammer 40k, none are perhaps as feared as much as Imotekh the stormlord. a ruthless conqueror who will not stop until the galaxy is purged of all lesser species. which is bad news for the imperium of man, as its full of those! But who exactly is this guy? lets find out!

Hey wes i would like to start by thanking you for getting me into the wonderfuk lore of the grimdark and l would like to ask you what you think of the prologue to the book im writing about short fan stories about the 40k universe thanks again. Gnash begins her grueling task going from home to home dragging a cart behind her taking the dead from each household. She finishes her rounds and begins her journey back to the incinerator, she stops at the checkpoint to catalog the number of the dead she collected today. 64 dead, 20% up from last month, Gnash sighs in defeat knowing that the future of her people is bleak and that her planet is dying. She deposits the dead in the burn room and seals the blast door then initiates the process of incineration. She makes her way out of the building and heads home stopping at a market to pick up some food. When Gansh gets home she unties her boots and places them at the door before riding herself off her cumbersome uniform. She then sits at the chair that she spends all of her waking free time at and throws herself into her studies desperately clawing at her research hoping to find something or one little detail that would explain who she sees in her dreams every night. After many hours her eyes began to weigh heavier with every blink her mind slowing down. She shambles toward her bed collapsing with exhaustion and quickly falls into a slumber. She begins to dream the same dream of the same and his gaze beckoning her his nonchalant yet serious and confident he outstretched his hand and then she wakes. With her wits barely about her she peels her face off the bed, she notices screaming and distant gunfire mixed with the roar of engines. She jumps out of bed scrambling to clothe herself and runs outside. She looks around, her village burning caught in a blaze of epic proportions, the heat curling the hair on her face, watering her eyes. She looks to the left and sees her people running. She sprints after them, her mind racing; she hears a horrid screech of hundreds of engines getting closer with each stride she makes. Until at last she reaches a battlefield her planet's guard locked in a losing battle with an enemy the likes of which the planet has never seen. Men clad in armor like that of the man in her dream, each one of them many times larger than a normal human and many times more dangerous. She stands there dumbfounded as these god-like men rip through her kin with roaring swords of chains and teeth. She watches as the last ember of resistance her planet could muster is snuffed out violently. The gargantuan men examine the dead before chanting “for the emperor” and then charging in the other direction towards the center of town. Gnash stands mentally broken having witnessed the slaughter of her fellow man at the hands of giant men wearing armor like that of the stalker of her dreams. She collapses onto the ground retching with grief, her planet burning for crimes that they did not understand. What Gnash and her people didn't know was that their planet salara was being liberated by the holy warriors of the god emperor, the space marines. Sent here to spread the imperium across the galaxy like they had done to hundreds of other planets just like this one. Purging the primitive natives and building great cities upon their ashes. So was the will of the god emperor of mankind

As described here, the "one weakness" of military hubris, to allow defeated commanders to live after lost battles, isn't weakness in Imotekh's eyes at all. It instead comes from his understanding of mortals' thought processes. A dead commander is a martyr to be revered, or cautionary case study for other commanders to learn from. However, a living commander after defeat presents an awkward problem for his colleagues, or several problems. He is either cowed into submission or dismay from witnessing firsthand the relentless campaign of Imotekh, or driven to a frenzied revenge obsession as in the Black Templar's case. Both options send a clear message to Imotekh's foes, and both options potentially tie up resources and focus as they have to deal with whatever consequences and baggage the defeated commanders bring back. One of the few places I could see this backfiring in Imotekh's face is if he releases a defeated commander who can actually analyze their own mistakes, see clearly Imotekh's strategy, learn from the defeat, and can get the resources together to pose a true threat next time around.

@morsorcus8152 Жыл бұрын
The idea of a martyr is great and all but far less common than people like to make it out. Historically it's far better to kill a charismatic and/or competent leader. The damage they can do alive is from more certain than the slight possibility of martyrdom. Not saying it doesn't happen. Just not that common. Entertainment loves to pretend it's a legitimate worry but history would say otherwise.

I love the Spooky Robot people. The Necrons are awesome and I hope we get more lore on them. They have some of the funniest bits of lore to happen in 40k. I think when the Silent King comes back, there might not be a fight between him and Imotekh. However I don't think even Imotekh would be able to stand up to the Silent King even if they did fight. This guy puts his people to sleep but does not join them and leaves the Galaxy for those 60+ million years. This guy is going to have some insane stuff at his disposal that not even Imotekh will have access to. Szarekh was the King for a reason. He may not have always made the best choice but he did what he did for the survival of his people. His actions allowed the Necrons to rival the Old Ones and see to the shattering of the Star Gods themselves. Szarekh isn't just The Silent King, he is The King. The only living being that could rival The God Emperor himself. Szarekh coming back will have a massive impact on the entire setting. It would be like Big E suddenly being able to leave the Golden Throne. Shit is about to go down and I am all for it. I have a mighty need for that book. Imotekh will look upon Szarekh and know fear, fear of the unknown that not even his mind can comprehend, that not even his mind can predict which action the Silent King will take. I think if anyone could match Imotekh in battle alive or dead it would be Sanguinius. His martial prowess was second to none "Save Big E Himself" and his abilities might give him the possible chance to hit Imotekh when he tries to phase out of reality. Also his presence on the battlefield would prevent fear from over taking the people he is with, from normal humans all the way up to battle hardened Astartes. I love these deep dives on characters. Fantastic video as always Wes!
@Animehime83
@Animehime83 Жыл бұрын
I think they might be waiting for THAT moment in canon (when The Silent King and Imotekh meet again for the first time in 60+ million years) to write his/their books. They may do something similar to Infinite And Divine, where they switch back and forth somewhat between the two, perhaps leaning more towards one of them in one book, and the other in a subsequent book. Because you can't tell me they're gonna be able to wrap that story up in a single book. EITHER WAY, fantastic video, I enjoyed it immensely, and it added context to that trial scene I was lacking previously. Thank you! 🤩

@@nimmha6708 The current lore is that he plays at being insane to throw off the other members of the Necron upper crust, as well as to accept his fate as an immortal soulless machine. Hasn't Imotekh lined himself up to be one of the most likely candidates to be the next Silent King if Szarek is ever slain or overthrown? I think Trayzn could beat Imotekh, not through strength of arms, but through guile. My first WH paint project was some Chaos Space Marines about a year ago, but they were quickly followed by a lot of Necrons. I painted some warriors, some immortals/deathmarks, and acquired some more elite units to paint down the line like Overlords and Skorpekh Destroyers. Then I ordered a Imotekh the Storm Lord model. I was so disappointed by his model compared to all the other necron models, it kinda made me stop wanting to paint for 6+ months. Such a crummy "finecast" model where it needed so much shaved off it, and that the glue I'd been using for other models just didn't seem to work on, it was very frustrating. Hurry up and give Imotekh a new model GW!

Straight forward and clear to the point which is refreshing when my time is limited. On another note you seem to cover content mostly glossed over by other lore enthusiasts which is very uplifting. As my right by the Inquisition I ask you to cover the events surrounding the Night Reapers Renagade chapter. I know much of them as they are my favorite but I believe others should know what threat they could have posed if they were not thwarted by the Grey Knights and Minotaurs. I'm not a super lore person, I'm still learning across 40k. But I remember Gothic Armada 2's necron campaign. Though the campaign is non canon and the Nepheru dynasty is non canon it's phearon was.... well.... pompous and full of himself. You are tasked early on with expanding your borders, but your Cryptek and yourself warn him that doing so would attract the gaze of the Aeldari before they've gotten their strength back. His response is something like "That would be the fault of your failure to keep us hidden, and not my command" he also blatently tells the cryptek to basically shut up and not talk to him again. After doing this the aeldari begin to invade as expected and you worry about having to inform the phearon about it, but your cyptek advises handling the problem before he can become aware. Once you fend off a few fleets the phearon contacts you and asks about his discovery of Aeldari intruders and it not being brought to his attention. Amarkan(You) tells him it was below his concern and the he shows a bit of suspicion, warning you not to let your pride over take you. But he still rewards you with a new fleet. You cyptek quietly says after the end of the conversation that 'this time he rewards you, but what about next time?' This seems to imply that the phearon was either better before or has become mad. The narrator also seems to imply this to at some point. So it might be implying the phearon also suffered negative effects that increased his ego and reduced his more logical and cautious attitude. Of course part way through the campaign you learn the Phearon is planning to sacrifice you or send you on a fools errand. I cannot quite remember. But you ultimatly realize that the phearon is going to lead the dynasty to ruin and must usurp him. I kinda like this idea of the great sleep effecting the necrons minds over time. Some did well having plenty of back up systems while others were not prepared and suffered. it gives them atleast some kind of weakness or instability to counter their god-like abilities that few races could really hope to match.

Somehow, I feel the Necron lores seem to be more epic than other factions (maybe except the ork lol). Would love to have a video focusing on Szarekh, although I heard his lore is lacking in quantity so...

I think you will have a really good time with it. I played in 4th edition and 5th edition but skipped 6th and 7th because they were bad lol. But 8th edition was f****** amazing and felt like 4th edition. 9th edition is just 8th edition but with some extra stuff added onto it. (Kind of like what 5th edition was to 4th) Black templars are great! They're crusaders are ridiculous. When I play them I very frequently am able to kill nights with just a bunch of chain swords 😂 If you've got Grimaldius and helbreicht on the field, whatever is around them is crazy powerful. Vanguard vets with thunder, hammers and storm shields are probably your best unit.

Imotekh is the smartest and most ruthless leader whose genius made even the old ones think twice Also Imotekh: gets his ship boarded and destroys by the black templars which while not stupid, they aren’t know for being the sharpest tool the shed. They mostly use melee and plot armour

Knowing that Guilliman is the only primarch that we know of being alive and active inside the 40k books, Can you make a video about every single loyalist primarch's whereabouts and clues about their return? Because all i can found is that they went off into the eye of terror or is just sleeping right now (poor Guilliman dealing with this shit alone.)

The only person in fiction that I can think of that has the tactical genius even close to Imotekh is Master Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts. These 2 know their enemies' strategies before their enemies even come up with said strategies. It's kinda terrifying in all honesty.

I to heavily play necrons, them being my second favorite faction next to chaos as a whole. My own custom dynasty has an overlord a bit like Imotekh in he wants to conquer everything and have his name outshine all other lords that came before him, however his battle strategy is much more conservative. Instead of using warriors and immortals like most dynasties, unless he's fighting specifically other necrons, he will show nothing more than utter distain for the lesser species and instead choose to spend the lives of his destroyers and flayed ones, so as to not a single necron life may even be accidentally snuffed. He will also employ his crypteks to unleash their canoptek devices to support the destroyers and flayed ones. On the table top I reflect this by using those units a lot, especially since they are among my favorites in the necron range.
