Sneijder was the best player that year we have to say, he literally took his team to world cup finals, Won a treble with inter and had wonderful stats that year, but sadly the history of balon' dor have had many unfair wins like figo, cannavaro. Its really sad he didn't win, all this is coming from a messi fan i feel sad for such a humble person like sneijder who didn't care about his balon dor getting robbed. MASSIVE RESPECT👏👏

The Ballon D'or lost all it's credibility when Diego Milito wasn't even nominated in 2010... Diego Milito won 5 trophies with Inter in 2010 (Seria A, Copa Italia, UCL, Club World Cup and Super Copa) . He was arguably their best and most important player during the 2009/10 season. He was Inter's top goal scorer and he scored 30 goals that season (14 more than any other Inter Milan Player) which included 22 in the league and 6 in the UCL. Was 2nd top scorer in Serie A and 3rd top scorer in UCL. Diego Milito scored the only goal in the Copa Italia final against Roma and also scored in the Semi Final against Fiorentina, scored the winning goal in the last match of Serie A that won Inter the league, Milito bagged a brace against FC Bayern in the UCL final and also scored in the round of 16, QF and SF of the UCL against Chelsea, CSKA and Barcelona. He also scored several other decisive goals that season. Despite doing all this, Diego Milito wasn't even nominated for the Ballon D'or in 2010. ( Not even among the top 23 players in the world? )

So many Messi and Ronaldo fans out there saying it's a individual award, stats say all. This is football, game about winning, not about stats but winning. For example if you score 52 goals this season but your team didn't won anything but the league title, you don't deserve it. If you score only 18 goals but your impact for the team is so important that you help your team won a treble and even carry your national team to the final, you definitely deserve it. This is the case of Franck Ribery and Wesley Sneijder, they both play well, made such a huge impact that they help the team won a treble especially sneijder the inspiration of inter milan and Netherlands. Messi and Ronaldo play well and score goals, has some fancy numbers but those flashy numbers doesn't help the team won anything but league titles, you need to have a impact that big enough to help the team won something more than league titles not just fancy number for yourself so you can get ahead of other players in ranking and broke some records. Record are meant to be broke but titles will stay forever (unless you cheat), if you won a team awards it stay forever in the fans heart and YOUR club, if you won something like golden boots it will become another number that the mostly forgotten until the journalists brought it up (sorry if my english is bad)

Okay, let's go by this logic: Fernando Torres should have won the Ballon d'Or in 2012 (Won the Euro and the Champions League) - Sami Khedira should have won the Ballon d'Or in 2014 (Won the World Cup and the Champions League) - Varane should have won the Ballon d'Or in 2018 (Won the World Cup and the Champions League).

Now let's go by the number logic then Diego Forland should have won the 2009 ballon d'or instead of messi because he won the golden boot despite barca 2008/09 is one of the best team in football history and that season is one of messi best season. In 1998 Nikos Machlas should have won the ballon d'or instead of zidane because he won the golden boot.

Zidane's performance in the 1998 World Cup gives him merit to win that Ballon d'Or, and in 2009, Messi was the best player in La Liga and the Champions League most likely, you're just basing it off of goals, do you think that's the only comparable thing between players? It's an individual award, yeah, football is about winning, that's what you have trophies for, the Ballon d'Or is given to players based on their individual performances.

Messi scored 47 goals in 53 matches with 14 assists snider scored 11 goals in 41 matches with 17 assists I know had an amazing year but as a number 10 your stats can be way better than that Messi has proven it today aged 33 just saying. Not Messi or Sneijder, I would say Iniesta or Diego Milito should win the award. Iniesta won the world cup and Milito won the Serie A and Champions league. In fact, he had scored most of their knock out goals even in finals. That season i think he was exceptional and scored more than 30+ goals in overall competition!

People should remember that everytime messi and ronaldo won purely off trophies, they still had an amazing year with numbers. Example, 2016 ronaldo wasn't top scorer but won the UCL and champions and still had 40+ goals. Messi in 2021 wasn't top scorer but won Copa America and still had 40+ goals. Sneijder, Ribery, Xavi all won important trophies but in those years their stats were no where near messis or ronaldos. A combination of the two is important, and that's why messi and ronaldo won the most, messi scored 60 goals in 2010, and ronaldo scored 61 goals in 2013, and their stats outside of goals are amazing as well

I felt this in year 2014 ....Neuar deserved the ballon o dor but football is such nasty and discriminatory game sometimes. Defender and goalkeeper rarely get the Glory. Only scorer get all the limelight.

At that time ballondor is given to best player of season apart from what his team achieved.now it takes titles to account also. Even though his team was well performed , Messi played better

Yes. He could have been like Messi or Ronaldo but he did not want to use his capacity at its fullest. Its a choice. Messi and Ronaldo dedicated themselves to Football. Nevertheless Sneijder became one of the greatest football players. I think he is definitely in the all time top 100 list.

At least back then players were judgded based on their performances and consistancy, instead of team achievements (trophies). Sneijder was inconsistent in the second half of that year and imo not on Messi's or Xavi's level. Messi was the deserving winner without a doubt, some people just fail to seperate individual greatness from team brilliance.

@@LoneWolf6063 Sneijder was better at the World Cup, but not overall. Especially when we consider their performances over the whole year, abilities, goals etc Messi wins by a landslide. Therefore no, Sneijder wasn't better.

@@LoneWolf6063 Snijeder wasn't UEFA best player didn't even get into the Seria A team of the season or wasn't even Inters player of the year that season. It was Milllito. Yeah no doubt he had a great season cant take that away from him. But individually he wasn't the best player. If you wanna argue xavi/iniesta considering they won the world cup it makes more sense

2017-18 Harry Kane scored 6 goals at WC and 30 goals at EPL, didn't even get to the top 3 of BOD 2018 😂 in the same season Moh Salah scored 32 goals at EPL and 10 goals at UCL. 🙉 stop with the excuses. BOD has always been marketing tool since 2010

The year that Inter Milan winning the Treble but the top 3 Ballon D'or ended up all being Barca is confusing. Inter had Sneijder, Eto'o, Cambiasso, Lucio, Thiago Motta, Milito. I am not saying Barca players don't deserve it, but damn, all top 3?

Oh My Goal, don't make it seem like Messi had a bad year. He wasn't even their top player it was Diego Milito. Name 1 reason aside from the trophies and taking the Netherlands to the World Cup final. Messi would literally score solo goals every week. He also won the pichi hi trophy with 34 goals in 35 matches. He ended the season with 47 goals. I think you need to just be quiet.
